The bridge spans the Delaware River, between Philadelpia and Camden,
NJ, a route previously dominated by river ferries for both passengers
and freight. The BF is also a rail crossing for the city
subway/elevated. (Trains to Atlantic City and other Jersey shore
points use the Delair Railroad Bridge, several miles upriver from the
BF.)
There are no center barriers on the BF; lane openings and closings are
regulated by overhead traffic lights as lanes are altered throughout
the day to accommodate rush-hour traffic in both directions.
