I only use gmail for my e-mail - so this way when your hosting company goes down, your e-mail is still intact.
gmail allows me to have 5 forwarding accounts , so really it's 6 accounts you can have on one gmail account, all your e-mail is on the "cloud" in cyberspace, you don't have to have a back up of your e-mails, it's all accessible anywhere. I stopped using Outlook completely and very happy.
As for a host, I think they are all pretty much good now with 99.9999% or so up time. I stopped thinking about hosting a long time a go.
The only way you can transfer your site to another provider within hours is when you
* have a host that supports your kind of site with all the features you have * have your site on your computer backed up so you can upload it it immediately - I develop my own site, so this is a no brainer * change DNS settings for your domain to a new host (may take a few hours to propagate on the Net)

Couple of questions. As I recall, the visibility of the email tab on the property record was not an "out of the box" feature available when we first got the program (though it may be an out of the box feature on newer releases, I'm not sure). So....
If you've not already done so, make sure you have completely "updated" your software (Click on the "Utilities" slider menu, then select "Updates")
Make sure all of your tabs are visible (some people use the scroll feature which hides some available tabs...you can turn this feature on or off depending on your preference) (Click on the "Utiliites" slider menu, then "Options", then "Address Book", and place a checkmark in the "Multi-row Tabs", then save/exit)
If neither of those are the solution, then create a support ticket. I'm almost positive the email tab was in one of the "updates" downloads.

You ROCK Judi! Thanks!!!! I knew it had to be something like that.
Your explanation was precise and perfect!

Instead of sending the saved email from the email module itself, you need to send it from the address book. If you're just sending the email to 1 contact you can either go to their contact record, and from the TOP MENU BAR,
Select "Email"
Select "Saved Emails" from the dropdown list
Choose the saved email you'd like to send from the "Select Message to load" window, and click OK
A window pops up saying "Ready to start the merge of the saved email to selected records?" Click Yes
Another window pops up with "There are messages in your Outbox. Do you want to send them now?" Click Yes
You can do the same process from the Address Book...whether you have one contact or several contacts that you'd like a saved email merged to. Go to the address book list, and "select" whichever contacts you'd like the email sent to (make sure that the contacts you want to send it to are the ONLY contacts you have "selected" or "marked" (they should have a "x" in front of their name...you mark them by hitting the space bar). Once the contacts are "marked" follow the same process as above using the menu bar at the top of the address book.
Hi group,
Not sure what is happening here so I need some help. I created a bunch of saved
letters with a mail merge <<greeting>> at the beginning of each email. I set
up a task series for drips using these emails, and set up a mail rule to launch
the series...all is good. everything works great, and the greeting field
populates with the clients name from the greeting field in my contact file.
Here is my issue...If I just want to send one of the emails to a client that I
spoke to that was already in my address book,(not a task series) I hit NEW
email, then MESSAGE then OPEN to access the email that was saved that I would
like to use, and then choose that client from my address book, ....I figured it
should populate the email with the appropriate greeting field when the email is
actually received by the client...but my emails being received by the recipient
are not being populated with the greeting name, it still says <<Greeting>>. (I
sent one to myself to be sure) They DO work when the contact was part of the
task series for drips, but if I choose just one of the emails to send manually,
the <<Greeting>> is not working properly....(with the individual emails, I have
tried to OPEN and also OPEN AS TEMPLATE) either way same issue....) The
contacts I am trying DO have the greeting field entered.
Am I missing something, AM I NOT supposed to do this, or do I have a glitch? I
would think this is a fairly basic operation that should work, right?
When I first got XI and started entering listings and recording showings and other activity on them, I must admit I was pretty lax. I did record them in the showings tab. Eventually, I needed to contact people who had previously inquired about or showed a property...then it dawned on me...IF, instead of just recording their name and basic info on the showings tab, I actually made CONTACTS of them and linked them to that property via the showings tab, contacting them en masse would be SO EASY!!!!! For the past 6-8 months or so, that's what I've been doing and it is SOOO HELPLFUL!!! Each inquiry, each preview, each showing on a property is now recorded on that property's showings tab.
As my emails have been coming in I have attached them to the contact and to specific properties. Now I need to access all of the emails attached to one of the properties and am perplexed as to how to do that. I can't seem to find the tab. Thank you to anyone who can help with this. One of my contracts fell apart (due to financing - aren't you surprised) and I want to access everyone who sent emails about the property. Help save Christmas.
Go to the properties module, open the property in question, find the email tab Click on the TOOLS link on the email tab, and select the last option to search for ALL EMAILS TO/FROM THIS CONTACT
As my emails have been coming in I have attached them to the contact and to specific properties. Glad you were able to work it out. What I considered a support ticket issue (and still do) is the inability to remove all content from the property view. I'll create a ticket myself for that because I still do have one listing for which I'm getting an error...because of some content I've not been able to remove (or overwrite, for that matter). It appears to be tied to a microsoft issue (a KB item is referenced, and in googling it discovered it as Microsoft). However, still needs to be dealt with.
But if you're all set, that's great! What I love about that page is that, once you add your content (whether public view or private view), you can then EMAIL it to whomever. I can see a variety of applications where that might be useful!
Thx for the update

Thanks for your input. I don't think its really a support ticket item. The runtime error seems to crop up due to some java that was associated with the MLXchange site that I don't know how to get rid of.
What did work for me is to get to a clean preview screen that allows me to right click, View Source, Select All, Copy & then paste into the <> dialog box. I had to get to a non-framed screen to do that, however, and that required an extra step.
I just tried Select All and Copy in the general MLXchange preview screen and dumped that into Mark-it and that works. I can still cycle through the photos, although the counter doesn't work
Shelli - I'm sure you had no idea that you had to close the tickets when they
were done, which is why I brought it up. I just wanted to point it out to
everyone here again, as Judi understood.
With regards to your issues; because I tell people to look at this group when
they are making a decision as to whether or not to buy Advantage, I have taken
it upon myself to "police" it for accuracy. While I have no doubt that you have
unanswered questions, there is a big difference between having unanswered
questions, and what a person MAY think by reading your post, which is that you
have never received any help. I realize that was not your intention, which is
why I pointed it out.
Mark has promised me that he will be adding another full time support person and
I look forward to that. He was interviewing people when family issues got in the
way.
It's all good!! :-)

I'll definitely second your suggest for some sort of CLEAR CONTENT button!!!
I've only played with that area a few times, and I know one of those time the page got "stuck"...couldn't seem to get rid of the particular code or error. I'm not sure what what happened then, but I have used it successfully several times as well.
If you're getting a runtime error, that's support ticket country. If you're using an url link, make sure the page you're trying to have open in the MLS listing page is a public page, not requiring any sort of sign-in. Also, make sure the page you're linking doesn't have any incompatible components...which it sounds like the one you used may.
For my MLS page, I use the preview screen of the content I want to copy from my MLS (ConnectMLS), and I simply do a copy / ctrl V paste to get it into the screen (in "edit" mode) I don't use the source code area (<>) for that......BUT, before I close the editor, I place the curser at the end of EVERY LINK ON THE PAGE and hit BACKSPACE. That removes the "linkability" of the link. The only one that seems to stay around is the email link...but that hasn't seemed to have caused any real problems for me. Since some of the "linkable" items in our mls utilize a variety of web features that are not compatible in XI's MLS page section, it's best not to try to save them. My best guess is that it's those sorts of components that are creating your runtime issue. I have a script error on one of mine that I can't seem to remove, and I've tried everything I can think of.

Anyone know how to do this?
I was playing around with getting an MLS report (from MLXchange) into the property detail. I attempted using the URL link feature to open the web page. It opened, but it would not save. MLXchange will only open a nice clean report without a bunch of menu frames in a pop-up.
I found a work around using a clean window link and copying the source code for future use, but I can't get rid of some HTML dialog that give me an error message
[A runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug? Line: 1094 Error: Object expected]
When opening the debugger, I see that I am in an HTML editor, but that about all I know. When I close the debugger, Mark-it Advantage closes and the debugger stays open.
Some sort of "Clear Data" button on the MLS Listing page would be really handy about now.

Ok...I have no idea IF we can archive per se, let alone how to do it, but what about simply making a complete database back at the end of the year....then delete whatever you want to delete. If you need to go back and find something, restore using the saved database (just be sure you've created a backup of your CURRENT database before doing the restore. When you've found what you want from the old system, simply restore to your CURRENT database. This might be less "clean" than simply accessing an "archive" file, bit I suspect it would work.
I use Peachtree in my son's construction business, and at the end of each year I create a full backup. If ever I need content from years past, I simply restore from that old backup, do what I need to do, then re-restore to my current data (Peachtree only holds a couple of years of most content, so going back longer than that requires the restore process.
Its the end of the year and we want to delete files that we do not need anymore. With that being said, we still want to keep an archived version with it notes and everything else.
How de we create an archived version of the property so that if we need to reference back to them we can?
Hang in there! Your response was very gracious and I have no doubt your original post simply triggered a response from Gary (and me too!) that was meant for ALL of us. I do think we need reminders occasionally about closing those support tickets. Hopefully support will have you up and running again soon!!!! I empathize!
Gary,
I had no idea that I needed to close my tickets. I have gone thru today and
closed all that have had a resolution. Many that I closed are suggestions that
they are going to address - which I think is fabulous!
And hopefully many of the open tickets are some related issue and can be closed
soon!
It is important to note that I am not trying to bash this product on the support
group. I am not the type of person who goes around whining and complaining to
get what I want. Or just for the sake of complaining. I see no point and hate
it when people to that.
However, I am feeling very desperate right now. I have been having major issues
and dont know what to do. It is cuasing major problems with my productivity and
I have been doing my best to get help/get these problems resolved.
Since you can see my support tickets, you will note that several have not been
closed becuase the problem is not resolved. Also there are a few that may
appear that I ignored and didn't close out, but that is not the case. I simply
ended up sending emails so I could send a screen shot of my issue. As I am sure
you know, support tickets can only go so far for some issues.
Also, when looking at my open tickets which recieved a response, you may not
know that I have tried the solutions given, often repeatedly with no success. I
have even resorted to trying to come up with my own solutions. The example of
this is my my problem with many duplicate contacts being created in outlook and
on my BB after syncing xi to Outlook. I have no idea what I am doing wrong and
I have been thru the training and can't figure it out.
This is the issue that I was referring to when I said I haven't heard anything
back.
Ever since I purchased Xi, I have been very excited about it's potential. I
faithfully starting investing the ample time needed in implementing many of the
functions and decided that I would embrace the product completely. I stopped
using Outlook and the other online based contact management sys I was using.
Always with the intent of syncing to Outlook in case I needed a back up.
You can imagine how difficult it been for me now with no contact management
system at all. And no back up in Outlook or on my BB becuase of the problems I
have had syncing.
And BTW, a HUGE part of the reason I got an expensive new computer was in the
hopes that with a better processor, more storage and RAM, I might no longer have
the syncing, back up and lock up problems I was having. I have absolutely no
clue if this will work (still haven't gotten Xi running) but I am willing to do
anything that I can personally do to have a well rounded, fully functioning
contact management system that I can count on.
I am excited to report that Mark and I will hopefully connect soon so he can
help me out personally! Please lord, let that happen by the end of the day!
:o) I continue to have faith that I can make this program work for me and will
be sooooo grateful to have Mark's help sometime soon!!!!
To be honest, I'm feeling a little upset that my frustrations were sort of
invalidated by your response. On the other hand, I fully acknowledge that that
may not have been your intent. Could just be the stress getting the best of
me... If so, I appologize.

Thanks for posting that, Gary. I can't imagine being on a support team that's trying to stay on top of "open issues" when 60-70% of them are actually CLOSED! We want them to focus their attention on items that HAVE NOT BEEN RESOLVED, not to waste time trying to figure out whether items need their attention or not. Good reminder for us all!

I am using a usb drive to sync a laptop and desktop, and once the bugs got
worked out, it is working very well.
