1000 Planets in 2003: Happy New Year
2002 was a good year. I still have all of my hair. There were times that I
wanted to pull it all out in frustration but resisted the urge. On January 1,
2003 1000 Planets will celebrate its 2nd birthday.
To celebrate we will have a new web site and start a major push for new
volunteers to get this show on the road to where we want to be: Off Earth
Space.
1000 Planets was reincorporated in late 2002 and now has 7 stockholders. The
office was moved to Oklahoma.
The DART division was the only division with much activity and we made
substantial progress there. The MagLauncher is the only piece of space
oriented hardware to advance in design and construction. It will continue to
be high on the list of projects in 2003. The Dart Team has its own web site
now www.1kp-dart.org
While we have not launched Planetary Capital yet but we are slowly getting
there. It will have its own web site. That would be www.planetarycapital.com.
We started a prize site. That would be www.Marsprize.com. It has not been
launched yet but is now being loaded into its shell and will be launched
before February 1, 2003. Besides these items there are 4 goals set for 2003.
Those goals are:
1. Moving John Cooke from England to the LUF's SEE1 location in Bastrop,
Texas to live for at least one year. Several snags have developed in this but
it should be accomplished by February 1, 2003. Getting a visa to stay for at
least one year is not as easy as it once was. This problem will be over come
but it will take time. John will have to work to support himself but will
accept sponsors so that he can have more time to learn and to develop several
items to be used in getting to space.
2. Helping Richard Crews in the continuing development of the SEE1 Colony in
Bastrop. This will include helping in the construction of new living quarters
that will house at least 4 more people. Even though this has not been
discussed except in passing it is a necessary advancement if SEE1 and any
other like efforts are to succeed. 1000 planets will offer to do as much as
we can to accomplish this goal. Donations are accepted contact:
crews123456@...
3. The acquisition of several hundred acres northeast of Elko, Nevada for the
establishment of a research station for agriculture and space applications.
It is planned for this Research Station to grow into a city housing people
with one idea: get to and live on Mars. We will also establish environment
and space camps for all ages of people. These camps will be one and two week
learning experiences for any interested people. We hope for a city of 5000 in
5 years.
4. Gathering people who are interested into a loose network and then a
colony. More on that later.
At this time there are about 15 people who are really working with 1000
Planets. The ezboard has 100 people registered 1000 Planets Online Community
@ www.ezboard.com and the yahoo group has 73 members and 3 bouncing. Yahoo!
Groups : 1000Planets-MARSMYWAY
I would like to get some of you that do not now have duties interested in
doing things to help us.
There are several volunteer positions that should be filled at 1000 Planets.
One such is "Media and Public Relations" This position will take a dedicated,
knowledgeable person who has 5 to 10 hours a week to devote to such efforts.
Another is webmaster for Planetary Capital. This person would be working with
Charlie Bunch and the company webmaster Seth Matheson.
We could use web artist and graphic designers to help make our web sites more
colorful and to transfer some of our ideas to paper so that we can show them
off. A good organizer and planner would not be turned away
Most of all we could use mechanics of many trades that have to do with the
design of space habitats and ships, and the building of such.
We are doing well and would like for you to join us. Happy New Year from 1000
Planets to you and yours.
John Wayne Smith, President, CEO and Majority stock holder, 1000 Planets,
Inc.
