Just a short note or history of my woes with a DS-80 GOTO mount.
Bought several years ago, worked fine right out of the box on the
first night then nothing but problems since. Tried all suggestions
and hints from this sight and others, most helped somewhat. Not being
one who gives up easy I gave it another try the other night and
noticed that it sliped in altitude with each movement. Long story
short: I drilled and tapped the altitude gear and drilled the washer,
insearted an allen set screw throug the gear and just came even with
the washer then placed the spring waher on the axis and tighten the
knob. It seemed to work just fine. I need another night out to be
sure but it was much better! Might even do it to the Dec axis.
