Subject: Is it a camera attachment?

Hi all,

I purchased a Meade DS-114EC and I love it. I am definately a
beginner and noticed that in the box I have a "thing" that I could
only imagine is a mount for a camera? It looks like a big ring with
threads on one side and a couple of screw pegs to hold something in
there. I have to unscrew the part that normally the lenses slide
into in order to attach it. it has no threading on the outside for
anything else to attach to.

Am I correct in thinking that this is a camera mount, or is it used
for something else? I can find NO reference to it on the meade site.

Thanks for the help and insight!!

Chuck

Hi Herb

Is a meade barlow lens compatible with any 32mm telescope?

yes... very different... the #506 cable has active electronics
to convert between rs232 serial and the I2C bus signals/protocols
used by the AUX port.

The I2C bus is an addressable, bidirectional clocked bus
(one wire is two-way data, the other is the clock the transmitter
and receiver sync against, both wires are TTL levels referenced to
  ground).
It runs at a bit rate far, far higher than rs232 dreams of.

Visit www.weasner.com/etx/ for far more information.

Thanks for replying Jason,  I checked it out again today.  Here"s the scoop. I used the scope three nights ago.  I wanted to try out Kendrichs dew stuff, one for the 10" objective and one for the Telrad.  I just pointed the scope south and let her run for about 3-4 hours and everything was fine.  I was running off a auto charger-jumper of 17 amp hrs and have been running my scope like that for about a year now, but just the scope!   I bought a brand new 75 amp hr. deep cycle battery at Walmart and put a full charge on it.  I turned on the scope and blink blink blink.  The battery is fine cause I tried both and they're at full charge.  I tried the AAs and still just blinks.  The Magellan lights up and says she's Magellan but she doesn't go to her normal start screen and the drive corrector doesn't respond and neither does the stock hand controller but the leds light.  I tried to call Meade's # in the Manual but it is disconnected.  Any help would be appreciated.  Bueno, Dan  PS I'm going to put this same message on all the other mail sites too as is cause I'm a crummy typer.  Thanks again

Hi All,  I've got problems with my scope.  I just bought a deep cycle battery from Walmart yesterday and put a full charge on it.. I hooked up the scope this morning and the light  started blinking like it usually does then it went out, came back on and just blinks and blinks.  The Magellan II comes on but the drive corrector buttons don't.  I plugged in the regular hand controller and it doesn't work either.  I disconnected the big battery and put the AA's in and the red light doesn't even come on!  I pulled the fuse which was a 2amp, manual says it's supposed to be a 1amp, fuse is fine.  HELP!!!  Bueno, Dan

Typo mistake - the Meade 4504 is a 4.5" reflector, not a 3.5" as

Back in September, I created a specialized group for owners of Meade
4504 Telescopes. At that time, my actions were criticized for being
too narrowly focused. Well, I'm happy to report that the group now
has over twenty members who exchange valuable information on
improving the performance of their telescopes.

I invite any of the members of this group interested specifically in
the Meade 4504 or other 3.5" reflector telescopes to join our group

I have two questions on upgrading the Autostar that came with my
EXT-70AT.
First, what is the relationship between the included software (Starry
Night Bundle) and the SkyChart Astro software that one can purchase from
Meade?
Second, Meade sells a Connector Kit (included with the Skychart
software or purchased separately). Is there anything to this other than a
garden variety serial cable?

What are your experiences with electronic focusers and has anyone
come up with a fine adjustment knob for the EXT? I was thinking
something like a piece of 24-inch surgical tubing with a larger disk
at one end and the other end fitting over the existing knob. Has
anyone done this? Does it work? Any suggestions would be greatly

I am new to the Meade Telescopes (I have an Meade EXT 90 EC) , but I thought
I would pass this along in case someone out there is looking for power cords
for their Meade.

I live in a colder climate and often experience the short life of cold
batteries. For that reason I purchased both the 110V AC/DC power cord and
the Car 12V adapter. DO NOT DO THIS!

The 110 V power cord cost me about $35
The Car Adapter cost me about $25

The 110V cord is simply a 110V AC to 12 V DC transformer with a car-type
receptacle at the end. Then there is a car type plug in (25 feet long) that
goes from the receptacle to the telescope.

The Car Adapter is just the second half of this kit (the 25 foot car adapter
cord).

Buy the AC kit. It's the best deal and covers all the bases without
over-doing it.

Signed,

Tripod Tangled in cords, Tom

We are new owners of a Meade EXT 90 EC and are anxious to do some
observing. We live in North Pole, Alaska (65 degrees N). When it is
clear, it is cold here (-35F). When it is warm and clear it never
gets dark (summer). Such are our challenges.

We are looking for viewing suggestions, tricks of the trade and great
ways to get the most of our new scope.

Cheers to all from North Pole!

Here's another method from the same site:

Here's an excellent and detailed site with information about getting
really accurate polar alignment with an LX200:

Greets all:

I have previously owned a Meade 10 LX50 which was too large, so I
sold it. I hadn't used it in two years, but instead had more fun
with my TV-102 and Pronto. Well, I want to get back to CCD imaging
and for my "large aperture" scope, I got the Meade LX200 8" f/10.
With focal reducers and binning, this will work well with my new CCD,
an SBIG ST8E. Problem is, I am trying to determine how to best polar
align this scope for longer exposures. The instruction manual lists
several methods, but all seem based on the presumption that one will
be using the scope on a pier or in pure Alt-Az mode. But what about
whe one uses the wedge? I still have a wedge, and would like to
think that I can use that to get better polar aligment...but should I
think about a field derotator instead? Any instruction would be
useful....

Thanks,

jeff
