Desperate help sought to get DSI working...   Message List

Dear Friends,

I am a novice to this awesome hobby. I recently purchased an ETX-
105 and Meade DSI-I at Chicago and then quickly relocated to
overseas. I am a relatively tech savvy person, but I am
unfortunately totally unsuccessful in getting the DSI to work for me.

I am trying with 2 computers, a PC and a laptop. Both machines have
USB 2.0. I am using the standard USB cable that came with DSI. I
have tried everything possible, from updating the Autostar Suite
from Meade Website, to updating Microsoft's DirectX. I tried using
LPI as well as DSI on the Autostar Suite, tried imaging terrestrial
to lunar to deep sky. I tried every possible combination on the
Autostar software settings.

Although my computers detect "Meade DSI" device, there is absolutely
no image reception...! All I get is complete dark screen or
complete bright screen and in between the settings (gain, offset,
etc.) a grainy grey screen. The screen image does not even change
when I close the telescope with its lid...!

Finally I attempted buying an externally powered USB 2.0 hub. But
now when I connect the CCD to the hub the outcome is worse; I get a
unrecognized-device error message...! There doesn't seem to be an
easy way to re-install the CCD's drivers once I hook up the CCD to
the externally powered hub. The powered hub seems to be ok. I can
connect a mouse to it and it works.

I am now totally clueless. Can I kindly get some valuable feedback
from this group to try and succeed with my pursuit.

Thank you very much.

Hemanth

Hi: What are you using to test the camera? You're imaging a brightly lit terrestrial scene, I hope. A completely white/noisy image is indicative of poor...

Hemanth, If you want to be sure the DSI is working, try it without the telescope. First with the nose cap on the DSI, auto-contrast checked, and the live...

Hi Hemanth, Un-check the Auto Contrast box and see if that helps. What you describe is typical at times when this box is checked. The grainy grey screen...

The fact that your computer WITHOUT the hub cab reconignise the DSI proves that the computer can talk to the DSI. However the fact that when using the HUB you...
