An AO Spencer phase contrast condenser for sale   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #51658 of 53095 |
It takes screw in phase plates and has a 40x fitted. There are 6 positions
marked A to D and O. There is a hex key adjustment and centring screws. The
centring screws adjust a round plate at the bottom of the unit and there is a
5.7mms thick ring followed by a dovetail above that. The centrable ring is 3mms
thick. The hex keys seem to be used to centre the phase plates to the condenser.
That assumes that the dovetail fits in something that allows the ring to centre
in the normal way.

I bought it intending to adapt it to another make of scope but it's just sitting
there and I have something more suitable. Condition wise I would say near mint.
One scratch on the top of the unit and a marks on one side of the dovetail which
may well clean off. It also has an iris and is very solidly made. I reckon it
owes me ukŁ35 (us$56 at paypal exchange rates). If anyone is interested I'll
post photo's.

John

All the spaces are empty except the 40x. I'm assuming that they screw in but it may just be a screw in retaining ring. The pictures were taken with macro set...

The hex key is used to centre each of the phase plates individually!! The thumb screws are used to centre the whole thing. The dovetail must slot into some...

It may even date back to the model 15 era as it has no serial number. It should have a 43x annuli though and not a 40x. Because the dovetails didn't change...

Mine has a 10x,20x,43x and 97x annulus. I believe the phase condensers for the series 10 and 20 had captured phase centering ajustment screws. Peace, Jay ...

Well things are really a mess now because I just discovered that the threads on the Series 2 annuli don't match those of the Series 10. So what is a 40x...

My mistake it is a 43x phase plate. Part number 4834. I have a bad habit of not wearing my glasses when I should. I can't see any part number etc on the unit...
