The Series 10 described as a Deluxe, by the way, there never was a Series 10
Deluxe as Gregg correctly commented, is catalog number H10 BU-FW; the other
system was called a L10BU-FW. If the objectives were achromats, the extension
would have been QW with a 4 objective package.
I can tell you that early version of the Halogen systems experiences socket
failures due to heat. AO swapped out sockets at no charge for a year or so after
problem was discovered, the updated sockets had a red ink imprint on the bottom
of the socket and a clearly silvered service along the contact strips. The scope
pictured probably was updated, but the sockets are no longer availble.
Both scopes pictured seemed to be very complete and look clean. Pricing is a
matter of what the user values. E-bay does not always represent the best example
of value IMHO. Everyone is looking for a steal and approaches products from a
lowest price perspective rather than considering total value.

Wayne

arbitrary) $50 each for ocular pair, each plan achro objective, head, body and
$100 for the illuminator (reasonably close to ebay prices when pieced out, high
on some---low on others) you arrive at $450. If the extra $350 is for CLA and a
guarantee, it might be worth it to someone that does not want to build and
adjust a comparable package. Of course, it can be done for about 1/3 the cost
with time and expertise and even less than that with some modest luck. The real
question is the rep of the vendor.

For reference, I was a factory-trained AO service tech in the late '70's and
early '80's.

halogen light source - rather than the original tungsten - but I don't believe
it was ever marketed as a "Deluxe"!
