After a long fight with my condenser who refused to be aligned properly and was
somewhat lopsided ( it did favor one side ). I became suspicious and decided to
open it and found, in the cavity towards the back of the condenser, 2 short
springs ( the blade type) but they seem to be much too short for that cavity and
I think that it should be a longer spring and those two are the remnants of that
long one.
My question is, has anyone done that and ,please advise what i should really
have found and the remedy.
my condenser is part number: 513558.
Many thanks in advance.

hello- i am trying to determine if our department's old Leitz epiflourescent
'scope can image the Molecular Probes bacterial Live/dead stain (Syto 9 with
ex/em 480/500 and propidium iodide with 490/635). The filter cubes are labeled
"A" and "H2". I know one of these is for DAPI imaging, and i think that is the
"A" cube. I can't seem to figure out what the "H2" cube is for. In addition i am
wondering if anyone has had success with a digital camera system for these (it
has the trinoc head, but i am not sure what camera's might be compatible).

Hello- sorry if this is a repost, i can't find my initial message. I am trying
to determine if our Leitz Dialux 20 will capture the green/red signal from the
molecular probes live/dead stain. (SYTO9 with EX/EM 480/500 and PI with
490/635). However, i can't figure out what the "H2" filter is used for or the
wavelengths it is used for. (we also have an A filter for DAPI). I know that a
long-pass FITC-type filter will work, but i am not sure if H2 fits that
description. Does anyone know where i might be able to get filter cubes for this
machine to image those dyes? In addition, does anyone have a good digital camera
that will work well or they can recommend for this microscope? thanks-christa

Hi Christa,

The old Heat absorbing filter was labeled "KG1" your H2 might be a new
designation? Apparently the information you seek is likely to be found in
Leitz publication # 512-125. A Dialux 20 Manual showing the Ploempak 2.4
Fluorescent Illuminator can be found here, (bottom of the page)

http://earth2geologists.net/Microscopes/LeitzScopes.htm

But, unfortunately, it does not contain the critical information regarding
the various filter cubes and their intended applications and passbands.

The A is a DAPI cube. Excitation 340-380, Mirror 400, Long Pass 425

The H2 is a FITC cube, but can be used for a lot of other stains, Excitation
420-490, Mirror 510, Long Pass 515

The H2 would work for the Syto 9 stain. You might want to put a long-pass filter
around 400 nm between the light source and the cube to reduce photobleaching, if
that becomes an issue. A Wratten 2E gelatin filter would do the trick for about
$30.

For Propidium iodide, Leica recommends the N2.1 cube, excitation 515-560, mirror
580, long pass 590. You could get one from Chroma, Semrock or Omega. About
$1000, or look around on EBay, which will take a while. Chroma might have a
slightly different recommendation than the N2.1 specs, such as a band-pass
suppression filter.

The Leica fluorochrome page is at:
http://www.leica-microsystems.com/products/light-microscopes/accessories/filterc\
ubes-and-fluorochromes/list-of-fluorochromes/

Good luck!

Does anyone know where I might be able to get 1 or 2 rubber eyecups that will
screw on to the Leitz Periplan WF eyepiece (the one with the 28mm thread that
fits the Nikon Coolpix camera)? The Leitz number on the eyepiece is 519748 or

Hello

Does anyone know which bulb code fitted the microscope lamphouse below and if an
equivalent available, ideally UK / Europe source or US. I don't have a bulb to
measure.

Have had a browse round most of the large suppliers sites am familiar with but
haven't found what looks correct.

Have the Zetopan manual but it doesn't state a code other than 6V / 30W.

Reichert Zetopan
Older small round lamphouse
Bulb 6V 30W incandescent (not halogen)
Screw in but thread looks finer than Edison. Estimate thread OD 24mm
Single centre contact at base.

The holder thread looks like an engineering standard thread rather than a bulb
and did wonder if the bulb sat in some mount which is missing.

Have put a photo here.

Ah, think have just found the bulb spec at donsbulbs.com although sold out. So

I have a monocular tube for a Leitz polarizing microscope. The diameter of the
dovetail mount is 43 mm, so it does not fit an SM or an SM-LUX stand, which
require 41 mm. It does fit an Ortholux II. Can anyone tell if there are any
other Leitz stands that would accept this tube?

Hi Randall

That's what I thought but seems there was an Orbitec made bulb that did have a
thread screwing into this fitting, called an E19 base. By luck have found a UK
service engineer who bought new old stock a few years ago. They were $100 new in
the 70s he tells me, selling for less than that now fortunately.

From a photo of the bulb sent it's an engineering grade collar with thread
soldered onto a plane bulb mount.

The Reichert lamp house it fits is side entry with rear mirror to double
filament so would be tricky to retrofit to LED. Also prefer to use the scope as
was intended, a bulb looked after should last a long time hopefully.

David

Hi there,

I understand that the diameter of the circular dovetail depends upon the optical
tube length of the stand (170 vs 160 mm).

However, I don't know the exact/complete relationship - maybe others can help?

A dovetail-bayonet connection was used on some polarizing models, versus the
ring clamps for most of the black stands. In that way, the viewer stays lined up
N-S relative to the pol accessories. This monocular head with Bertrand lens also
fits the black Labolux Pol and Dialux Pol 170 mm stands. Also note the large 30
mm eyepiece tube diameter, which allows a nice wide view too. Greg M.

Oops, I see your tube is probably the 23.3 mm diameter. That might be a newer
version used on the gray and beige pol models, for example the HM Pol. Greg M.

ring clamps for most of the black stands.
Greg M.

other Leitz stands that would accept this tube?

Hi Gary
Thank you very much for your help.
If it makes it easy you could send it off list and I would post it in
the files on your behalf for the interest of others too.

Gee, that is a lot of engineering for a lamp. It is nice to be able to
afford that level of quality now.

As for an LED conversion, it is pretty easy to convert a side-mount. I use
a strip of heavy copper bar as a heat spreader that goes straight into the
lamp socket mounting hole. You would also need a copper spacer to put the
led surface at the filament position. It is easy to center everything just
by looking in the condenser. Alternatively, I have simply removed the rear
mirror assembly and replaced it with an LED on a heatsink.

Glad you found the rare lamp -- I have never seen one like that.

Randall

Hi Randall

That's what I thought but seems there was an Orbitec made bulb that did have
a thread screwing into this fitting, called an E19 base. By luck have found
a UK service engineer who bought new old stock a few years ago. They were
$100 new in the 70s he tells me, selling for less than that now fortunately.

From a photo of the bulb sent it's an engineering grade collar with thread
soldered onto a plane bulb mount.

The Reichert lamp house it fits is side entry with rear mirror to double
filament so would be tricky to retrofit to LED. Also prefer to use the scope
as was intended, a bulb looked after should last a long time hopefully.

regards
David

Hi David. I believe that I have a bulb that you are seeking. It is the same
dimensions as the one in donsbulbs with the engineered screw thread it is a
Wotan 70261 6v 5amp.The diameter of the thread is 19mm which is a bit short of
your est 24mm. The bulb does not appear to have done any work the filament is
pristine and lights up ok.F you cannot obtain one of this brand I would be happy
to send you this one as it is no use to me.
Cheers

Hello David .
Further to my previous post Dons bulbs has 2 Wotan 70261
Bulbs for sale at a price of $281.00 each. This must be the rip off of the
century because a seller in Germany, ebay #190703095870, has the same bulb
branded Osram 70261 projection bulb for EUR 4,90 postage EUR 1,70.
Earlier posters on this site mentioned that they are using the Wotan 70261 bulb
in their Zetopans.

Cheers

Hi

Many thanks for the suggestions, kind bulb offer and the Wotan 70261 bulb leads
which wasn't aware of. I'll explore a bit the options to see what would be best
long term approach for this stand.

Like new. Includes box for OM-Mount Photomicro Adapter L (all assembled fits
inside). Selling together only. If you want only one part, you sell the unneeded
parts. :)

The Adapter L is the early tan version (gorgeous). The PM-ADF is the early gloss
black (on the parts that show) and matte black (where it counts). Olympus body
cap on the OM mount side. Optics on the nfk 3.3x ld (125) eyepiece are perfect.

All for $219 plus (actual cost) shipping. email me for a shipping quote to your
part of the world.

As you know this is perfect (with an inexpensive adapter) for EOS Canon digital
cameras, especially full frame.

Paypal only please. I pay any associated PP fees.
