Rescuers saved one more miner from the ill-fated coal mine in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Tuesday, bringing the total number of survivors in Monday's gas blast to 13.
A miner, surnamed Zhang, was rescued at 5:13 a.m. Tuesday, about 26 hours after the fatal blast at Rongsheng Colliery in resource-rich Wuhai City, sources with the emergency rescue headquarters said.
Zhang was found sitting paralyzed in the laneway, obviously terrified. Doctors at the Wuhai People's Hospital which is responsible for Zhang's treatment said he was not badly injured but was too scared to utter a word.
Altogether 34 miners were working in the pit when the blast went off at 3:25 a.m. Monday, according to the latest government release.
By Tuesday morning, one more dead body was found, increasing the number of victims to 18 people.
Hospital resources said doctors are working all-out to rescue two seriously injured miners, while the other 11 survivors are out of danger.
Rescue work is going on to search for the three miners that remain missing.
