There are many MD/MA adapters on the major auction site. The ones with optics
work but degrade the image ($40); the ones without glass are for macro only
($20), they will not focus to infinity. You can also get them with a chip that
allows AF confirm for extra ($10-15) and some vendors even sell just the chip
for do it yourself use.
Minolta made such a converter when they introduced the A mount (actually they
made two, one for shorter focal lengths, one for longer). It was a 2X
teleconverter based on the existing MD teleconverter. Optically decent.
You can also modify most MD lenses to have an A mount. Essentially this
involves making a new mount that lets the lens be 2mm closer to the image sensor
- and of course has the A mount flange. Do a search for the various how to
articles on this, it's been done....
My conclusion is it's not worth the effort and cost for me, except for certain
lenses not made in the A mount. I suspect that the conclusion is different if
you have a lot of MD lenses you love, or certain particular ones that are not
available in A mount at reasonable prices.

lens, which is sort of OK as I am already divorced. I know I had to change a
setting in a menu on my KM-5D to use a manual focus mirror lens in aperture
priority mode but can't for the life of me recall what it was, can anyone help
me with what I need to do with the A900 to use the same lens? I can't find
anything in the instructions other than to use manual setting for a telescope.

there is a company in my home town (Melbourne, Australia) who do digital IR
conversions but they have never done a KM-*D and want to charge $50 to see if it
can be done. So rather than risk losing $50, has anyone here had a KM-5D or
KM-7D successfully converted to IR?
