| “Shinning Through the Dark Clouds” Next Generation Software - SaaS and Cloud Computing Venue: Radisson Hotel and Suites Chelmsford, 10 Independence Drive, Chelmsford, MA Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, Saturday March 28th, 2009 RSVP: http://www.acteva.com/booking.cfm?bevaid=180308 (Free for members; $15 for general public; breakfast & lunch included) Technology leaps always bring back confidence to current economy (think Google in last recession). What would be the next breakthroughs that would shed new light through the economic dark clouds over technology and our community? Come to meet and participate in a panel discussion with investor, innovators, entrepreneurs, technologists in SaaS and Cloud Computing from Highland Capital, CloudSwitch, EMC, NetApp, and iSoftStone. Traditional software application deployment cycles inside companies can take years, and consume massive resources. Considering current economy condition, it seems making more sense to subscribe software monthly based on usage instead of large up-front payment. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is a software deployment model where an application is licensed for use as a service provided to customers on demand. Cloud computing is another emerging computing model where users can gain access to their applications and data from anywhere through their connected devices. Some industry analysts think SaaS is a subset of cloud computing and some think cloud computing is one enabling technology for SaaS and provides ideal infrastructure for SaaS to run. All major IT vendors have rolled out their cloud computing service/product lines or strategies. Amazon expects its EC2 and S3 cloud platforms to be the company’s next major growth point. IBM announced its “Blue Cloud” computing initiative. IBM believes that cloud computing could help IT managers dramatically reduce their complexities and costs. Microsoft has made cloud computing as one of five top priorities for 2009. EMC created new cloud computing division based on its two recent acquisitions. Google has struck a deal allowing Saleforce.com to use Google Apps service as a platform for SaaS delivery. If you’re engineers, entrepreneurs, or users in the software industry, you may still have these questions: What are the areas entrepreneurs will likely build SaaS applications competing with traditional packaged software? Why are SaaS and cloud computing so hot today? How can entrepreneurs be part of it? What are the market opportunities? What are the options to address the concerns around SaaS and cloud computing? What kinds of applications make sense to offer through SaaS? From the users’ side, what are the enterprise IT organizations’ strategies for cloud computing and SaaS? What are the benefits from adopting cloud computing and SaaS based application? What are the obstacles and challenges? Please come to join the discussion with technologists, entrepreneurs, users, and investors to look at the emerging opportunities in SaaS and cloud computing and how you can be part of it.
