| Time: | 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm | |
| Location: | Harberger Hill | |
| Notes: | Starting the summer in drought conditions seems to be the new normal but landscapes will remain beautiful and colorful with native plants which require less water, fertilizer and little or no pesticides. Dottie Woodson will discuss her favorite native plants that beat the heat and keep on blooming, and other water conserving practices like soil preparation, mulch, drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting. Dotty Woodson is an Extension Program Specialist for water resources with Texas AgriLife Extension specializing in landscape water conservation, rainwater harvesting, rain gardens and irrigation efficiency. Dotty has BS and MS degrees in horticulture from Tarleton State and a Doctoral degree from Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Woodson and her husband have grown and hybridized orchids since 1973. They have 5,000 square feet of greenhouses and a one-acre garden, which includes roses, herbs, butterfly plants, perennials, vegetables, carnivorous plant bogs and two large water gardens. Woodson’s DVD “Growing Orchids Made Easy with Dotty” is available through the Texas AgriLife Extension Bookstore. She writes a weekly garden and landscape column for the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Northwest Times Record and Meadowbrook News. She writes and produces “Gardening with Dotty” on Times Warner, "Extension in the City with Dotty Woodson" with Fort Worth Community Cable and appears weekly on the local NBC Sunday Morning News. Woodson also appears regularly on HGTV “Gardening by the Yard” with Paul James and on the Health and Wellness channel on “Backyard Boomers.” | |
