On Saturday, November 7th, I will be leading a tour of a 137 acre property
(Fossil Hill) in Montague County, south of Bowie and on the edge of Amon Carter
Lake. The property is a virgin Western Cross Timbers site owned by Texas Master
Naturalist Jeanne Erickson and her husband Wayne of Fort Worth. She has been a
Cross Timbers chapter member since 1999.
Her property is one of the research areas for the Ancient Cross Timbers
Consortium based out of the University of Arkansas. Go to
http://www.uark.edu/misc/xtimber/ for more information on her property. I also
have a document describing her property. It you want a copy, please ask for one.
This will be a mostly all day tour/plant walk. Leave at your own convenience.
Bring a lunch and fluids with you.
We will meet at 8:45am and leave promptly at 9:00am from the TXDOT highway rest
stop on Highway 287 northwest of Decatur. The rest stop is on the right side of
the highway approximately 3.5-4.0 miles north of Decatur after you pass the
intersection of highway 287 and Loop 380. It takes about 30 minutes to reach
Fossil Hill from the rest stop.
Please RSVP if you want to attend. Email me back if you want a plant list and a
document describing the Fossil Hill property.
