Northeast Dairy Women’s Conference Nov. 15-16 in New York

With the female population being the fastest growing segment of the dairy industry, the Northeast Dairy Leadership Team is hosting a Northeast Dairy Women's Conference to bring together women dairy leaders in the Northeast to learn, grow and network. The conference will be held on Nov. 15 - 16 in Albany/Latham, N.Y., starting at 12 p.m. on the 15th at the Century House.

Some of the dairy industry's finest women leaders have been tapped to speak at the conference, including:
  • Debbie VanderVeen, partner on Veen Huizen Farms, a 1,350-cow dairy in Everson , Wash. , and an activist and author for the dairy industry;
  • Roberta McDonald, marketing director for Cabot Creamery Cooperative, who has worked to build a national footprint for the Cabot brand;
  • Rochelle Stein, a dairy producer from LeRoy , N.Y. , whose farm was the pilot farm for New York 's Johnes control program;
  • Liz Doornick, partner at Jon-De Farms in Baldwin , Wis. , a 1,700-cow operation, and owner of Human Resource Services, a consulting business specializing in improving communications;
  • Phoebe Bitler, a dairy farmer from Fleetwood, Pa., who serves on two farmer spokesperson networks, several industry boards and has been a voice for dairy with consumers;
  • Dr. Michaela Kristula, associate professor and chief of field services at New Bolton Center , the large animal hospital for the University of Pennsylvania 's School of Veterinary Medicine .
The evening banquet will be held in the scenic Corning Tower Observation Plaza at the Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany . Leigh Anne Jasheway-Bryant, master of public health and mistress of public humor, will give the keynote and share her remedy for managing stress, change and conflict with laughter. Round-robin workshops held Friday, Nov. 16, on the William Hanehan & Sons Dairy Farm in Saratoga Springs , N.Y. , will address maternity pen management, dissecting calf care and balancing biosecurity with neighborly relations.

The Northeast Dairy Women's Conference is offered to participants at a discounted rate, thanks to industry support. Registrations for the conference are due to the Center for Dairy Excellence in Harrisburg , Pa. , by November 2. For a registration brochure, visit:
