Rainbows and Rocks (with stars) at Tapu Te Ranga Motu (Island Bay)
All,
Astro pic. I took some long exposures last night in the freezing cold at the coast, when I noticed the seagulls lit up from the street lights. I actually saw several flocks flying in and out so they must have dark adaption or just good eyesight. I haven’t adjusted anything on the original shot, just straighten (the rock I sat the camera on had 6 deg slope) and shrink. I thought a composite of the night sky above and the rocks below would be worth assembling, after seeing this shot. So I did curve the above horizon sky part to bring out the stars, (and the noise), and posted that one as well.
Rainbows. I spotted the rainbow from the hill above the coast, and watched as the secondary bow appeared and they both grew to full size, wiping the rain off the lens before each shot!!! There was some supernumary (supernumaries?) inside the main
bow. I did heal vast areas in the upper corners to remove the wide angle mask, and curve somewhat as it was a bit dull here, comments? Did I over do the colour?
For the larger versions and those who don’t see attachments, the 4 pics are at the top of www.sky.org.nz .
Cheers all . Paul Moss
