related periodical.
Topic and purpose .... we are legal professionals using the tools of the
Internet to exchange information about the use of the Internet and other
technology in the practice of law. Our group, its email-based discussion list,
its group weblog and "wiki" are launching pads for our common exploration and
development of new uses and innovation on the Internet and a place for helping
legal professionals who are new to the Internet.
Commercial content .... advertising and marketing of ones own products and
services is _off_ topic except for personal pages at the wiki web where you may
wax eloquent on your page about your law and law related products and services.
Membership .... is limited to lawyers, law students, faculty, legal assistants,
consultants to the profession and other legal professionals with an email based
discussion, a collectively edited weblog and wiki web or collaboration platform.
The group membership is limited to legal professionals.
Wiki web .... home base for the group where all members may create and edit web
pages using an simple full-page editor that works with your browsers. Currently
web pages at the wiki may be created by any member or members of the group for
any law or law practice related topic or project of interest. This is best place
for new members to get acquainted with Network-Lawyers:
http://network-lawyers.org/
Weblog .... where all members are invited to join in as editors, reporters or
kibitzers. You may subscribe to receive articles by email or by an XML RSS feed.
The weblog is located at:
http://netls.weblog.org/
Email discussion and archives .... email-based discussion list with threaded

attachments are not accepted for distribution via email but you may announce the
availability of a file in the file library. That is the best way to handle
distribution of files.
Moderators .... the co-moderators monitor the postings to the group to see that
the message traffic stays on topic.
Moderation of messages .... The first message or two posted that you post to the
group will be "moderated" by the moderators. There are seven or eight
co-moderators who share this task so that messages should be approved within a
few hours during the week days and a bit longer for messages posted on holidays
or over a weekend. Within one or two messages after you surface as an active
participant in the discussions, the moderators, who have lots of other things to
do, will set the message server to automatically forward your messages with out
their approval.
Guidelines .... for additional rules and such see the last FAQ which is several
years old prepared by Lew Rose who founded the discussion group that has evolved

Hi Friends,
We have released the Justia Lawyer Directory to allow USA lawyers to
claim and update their profiles.
The url is...
http://lawyers.justia.com
Having a full listing on the directory is free, and those who claim
their profiles can also have their profiles on Cornell's LII version
of the lawyer directory at http://lawyers.law.cornell.edu
WHAT YOUR CAN ADD TO YOUR PROFILE
Here is my profile as an example
http://lawyers.justia.com/lawyer/timothy-james-stanley-148043
Of course you can add your basic info, education, work, publications,
talks etc... etc... as well as
- your Website(s),
- your blogs, and we will also include your blog feeds with links to
your latest posts,
- your social networks, including linkedin, facebook and twitter
-- your twitter feed can also be included in your profile, with the
latest status update on the top of your profile page, as well as
included in our continuously updated legaltweets from all of the
legalbirds in the directory who use twitter (see below for more on
that),
- links to profiles on other legal websites, including our friends at
avvo, nolo and jdsupra
-- you can also bring your jdsupra feed of documents for inclusion
into your publications section
- videos from youtube (we will expand this)
and there are many other features live (and many more under development).
Again it is free to have a full profile with as many features as we have.
PRODUCE OR SUPPORT FREE LEGAL INFO ONLINE AND SHOW UP HIGHER
Promoting those who provide and support free legal information online
is going to be a big focus of this project.
We give higher placement in the listings to those who help support
free legal information. This includes bloggers who have had their blog
editorially included in Justia's BlawgSearch.com (which is free),
supporters of Cornell's Legal Information Institute, lawyers listed in
Nolo who have been verified and taken the Nolo pledge and our own
clients (whose funds we use to put up more free stuff). We give extra
ranking placement to those who claim and fill out their profile, as
well as participate in community areas such as twitter.
We are also going to be working with others on the directory soon, as
well as provide additional ways for lawyers to get higher rankings by
participating and adding free legal content for the community.
for the marketing folks who like free legal info...
CORNELL BADGE OF SUPPORT
We and the Legal Information Institute are rewarding those lawyers who
financially support the LII at Cornell Law School and its missions of
putting up more free legal information with higher rankings and karma
points .
The Cornell LII support starts at $250 a year and gets you a badge and
higher rankings on the search and listing pages of Justia and Cornell
LII's (http://lawyers.law.cornell.edu) directory.
First, you do not need to pay to be in the Cornell directory (just
claim and update your profile - it is free) and this will not impact
the content that you have on your profile, outside of giving you a
beautiful LII badge.
Support will get you higher placement on the directory listings pages
of one of the greatest and highest trafficked US legal websites there
is. And LII is going to take the funds, hire Cornell computer science
and law folks and put up even more free info online. From a pure
online legal marketing standpoint, this is a very good deal (I know
our clients are going to be support the LII :). All amounts collected
go to the LII at Cornell -- here is the url --
http://lawyers.justia.com/contribute
SPECIAL PAGES
We have few special pages setup right now
Legal blogger profiles at http://lawyers.justia.com/blawggers
this page has a list of all of the profiles of lawyers that have blog
feeds in our directory. Those that have submitted their blog to
Justia's BlawgSearch.com also get a badge and higher rankings in the
list (submitting to BlawgSearch.com is free, and all selections are
made on an editorial basis).
Twitter Lawyer Profiles at http://lawyers.justia.com/twitter/birds
these are lawyers who have entered in their twitter feed into their
profile the Justia directory. (we call them legal birds -- and got the
domain name legalbirds.com and redirected it to this page :)
and a stream of the latest tweets by legal bloggers at
http://lawyers.justia.com/twitter/tweets
(and we have redirected legaltweets.com to this page :)
ok... to wrap things up for tonight....
A few people stumbled into the directory and have updated their
profiles while we played with the interface (true alpha testers).
after watching some clients work through it, we made pushed big
changes live on Wednesday night, so it should be a bit more intutitve.
That said, the directory is still in the beginning states, and we will
be making lot's of improvements, updates and additions for the
foreseeable (and unforeseeable) future.
Again getting a full profile is free :) and if you support the online
community of free information, by blogging or supporting the LII you
will get karma, higher directory rankings and hopefully more clients
:)
Peace,
Tim
Justia / LII Supporter

Other than the confusing similarity between their names, I don't believe that
there's any relationship between the two projects.

Hi Stewart:
Jott is super for sending notes to yourself and/or to others by calling (in
my case by cell phone to) the Jott service to record a voice message. Jott
transcribes the voice message and the resulting text is emailed along with a
audio file with the voice recording.
Their web site is at: http://jott.com <http://jott.com/>
I surmise that they make some money off of the revenue they derive from
calls made by long distance to their number.
John
P.S. Jottit (Jott plus it) appears to be some kind of web page generation
and, perhaps, hosting service. I am going to check that out at:

John DeBruyn suggested that I share this message with the board.
I have some law related domains for sale that I thought may be of interest
to people you know. Here is a list:
The first two would be sold with the sites if someone is interested in
maintaining them. I haven't touched them in years, but the Lawyer Lounge
site still comes up in the top 5 for "law office technology"
LawyerLounge.com
Mylawtips.com
Justforlawyers.com
Attorneymarketingtips.com
Lawyermarketingtips.com
Justexperts.com
Let me know if you know anyone who would be interested in buying any of
these.
I hope all is well in your world! Feel free to check in when you have a
chance.
Warmest regards,
Glenn K. Garnes

Online dispute resolution Cyberweek -- sponsored again this year by the
national center for information technology and dispute resolution at the
University of Massachusetts -- begins today (Monday). Programs will
available online, via teleconference and computer hook ups, without charge
other than long distance for the teleconferences.
Here is a listing of programs available Tuesday through Friday via
http://coadr.com <http://coadr.com/> and others are listed at
http://odr.info <http://odr.info/>
> An Online Mediation Role Play Workshop, Tuesday, October 16, 5 pm Eastern
(21 GMT) for an online role play demonstration -- the role play is laid out
at the foot of this message. Desktop sharing and/or group browsing will be
used to deliver the visual content to your computer screen. This online
workshop will continue on Wednesday and Thursday at times to be determined
to give participants hands-on experience with online mediation through role
plays.
> 40 ADR web sites in 60 minutes, an online tour of the web, Wednesday,
October 17, 3 pm Eastern (19 GMT), lead and narrated by Geoff Sharpe and a
panel of other internationally known ADR bloggers who are back, by popular
demand, from last year's Marketing Mediation Excellence program. Desktop
sharing and/or group browsing will be used to deliver the visual content to
your computer screen. The panel will track with the 40 sites program that
Geoff presented at the AU/NZ LEADR conference last month (September) in
Wellington, New Zealand.
> Mediation Excellence in Cyberspace, Thursday, October 18, 4 pm Eastern (20
GMT) featuring Colin Rule, Ethan Katsh, Graham Ross and others from last
years well attended Cyberweek presentation focus on using the internet for
education, training, and networking. The panel will also explore
conferencing at a distance without traveling to Melbourne, Hong Kong or
wherever the leaders and the experts of the profession are gathering; and
also the reestablishment of the ADR online community that once flourished in
various email-based ADR discussions that have now withered while the ADR
blogs have flourished.
> Taking Peacemaking Public: Friday, October 19, 4 PM Eastern (20 GMT), The
panel -- Gini Nelson, Vickie Pynchon, Colm Brannigan and Diane Levin -- will
dialog on this topic with two journalists who regularly reach the public
directly and effectively: Michael Skoler, Executive Director, Center for
Innovation in Journalism, Minnesota Public Radio at American Public Media
and Sandra Blakeslee, a regular contributor to The New York Times who
specializes in the brain sciences. Some of questions to be considered: "Why
aren't people beating down the doors of peacemakers, whether mediators,
facilitators or negotiators? and, "How can the internet engage people online
in ways that facilitate and promote peacemaking?"
For a full description of the technologyfor the programs listed here sign
into one of the conference areas at http://coadr.com For the time being we
are including teleconference as part of our definition of online since our
model is using the web for the visual component and teleconference for the
audio component. Although telephone connections are preferred, users of
Skype -- a free, voice-over-internet-protocol, software package -- may call
in from all parts of the world to the teleconference phone bridge for free.
After the demonstration on Tuesday other role plays utilizing the workshop
set up will be arranged later in the week including one on Thursday in
celebration of Conflict Resolution Day.
The workshop will demonstrate how technology may be used for intake and to
work with the parties in all kinds and levels of mediation ... and be used
in tandem with face-to-face mediation ... and also how technology may be
used to deliver training, learning and networking opportunities online.
Even if the time of day on Tuesday does not work for you, please sign in to
the workshop at http://coadr.com <http://coadr.com/> to look around as we
will be doing more online roll plays at other times, and/or evening, as
Cyberweek progresses.
Thanks,
John and Peter

Basic information about Network-Lawyers aka netLs
Help promote .... all the good things that are happening with Network-Lawyers.
Forward this FAQ to a friend or associate with the suggestion that they
subscribe. Or, better yet, submit the canned article about Network-Lawyers at
http://network-lawyers.org/article to a newsletter or other law or practice
related periodical.
Email discussion and archives .... email-based discussion list with threaded
messages--messages organized by topic--archives at Gmane newsgroups starting in
June 2003 at:
http://news.gmane.org/thread.php?group=gmane.culture.law.network-lawyers
and since that might wrap onto two lines and break here is a tinyURL to the same
place:
http://tinyurl.com/f536
and the serial, time and date order, message archives, with Yahoo ads to contend
with, is at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/network-lawyers
Email subscriptions .... The web page for Network-Lawyers at the Group.Yahoo.Com
address is where you may subscribe, modify how your subscription works,
temporarily suspend or unsubscribe from the email discussion group.
File library .... The Yahoo.com web page is where you may up load documents and
other files to be shared with the group. Like most discussion groups
attachments are not accepted for distribution via email but you may announce the
availability of a file in the file library.
Guidelines .... for additional rules and such see the last FAQ which is several
years old prepared by Lew Rose who founded the discussion group that has evolved
into Network-Lawyers discussion, weblog and wiki web. What Lew had to say then
is generally applicable now with the exceptions noted above about the messages
being moderated on a much more limited basis. The link to Lew's FAQ and
guidelines is:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/network-lawyers/files/guidelines.html
and since that might wrap onto two lines and break here is a tinyURL to the same
place:
http://tinyurl.com/jw9l
Help, suggestions and comments ... all of the co-moderators may be reached with
one message sent to:
network-lawyers-owner@yahoogroups.com
You may track down the moderators at the Groups.Yahoo.Com site where they are
listed in the membership list with little stars after their names.
If you would like to help make this FAQ better, let's hear your ideas and
suggestions over at the DiscussionGroupFAQ at:
http://network-lawyers.org/DiscussionGroupFAQ
Thanks for participating in Network-Lawyers,
