Special Issue of LOCAL ENVIRONMENT: Children, Youth and Sustainable cities

Congratulations on the childs-play egroup. It is already producing some
fascinating information and discussion.

Subsribers may be interested in a Special Issue of the journal, LOCAL
ENVIRONMENT, which will focus on Children, Youth and Sustainable Cities.
The issue will be published in Vol 6 (1) - February 2000.

A draft of one of the articles to be published in this special issue is
attached. This paper discusses links between children and sustainable
cities, and also discusses the impact of the New Zealand's first "Walk a
Child to School Day" in Christchurch (3 March 1999). It also discusses the
importance of Walk a Child to School Days in terms of overcoming the
social traps that force parents into driving their children to school.
