Dear Colleagues,

A brief note from here to update you all on latest developments. I'll use
bullets and try to keep it brief:

1. As you will note we are getting a fair flow of letters and commentaries
coming in, almost all of it very useful. And while we are committed to
keeping this a low volume list, we are pleased to be able to post most of
what we have received thus far. We'll continue to exercise our horrible
monitoring function to ensure that your time is not overly solicited.

2. You may note as part of the continuing development of the site that we
have placed a second small menu as a bar at the top of the site. If you
have any comments or suggestions on that, please let us know at
webmaster@.... Anything else we should think to get up there?

3. One of the reasons we put that bar up there is that we wanted to draw
attention to the Work Pad. As you can see it is a fair amount of work to
keep it up, but I think that there may be real value in it. When you have a
moment, you may want to have a look and then again possibly let us have your
views (again via webmaster@...).

4. As part of our push to development international support and coverage for
our joint effort, we have just gone ahead and submitted our project to the
Global Junior Challenge (basically run by the City of Rome and the European
Commission). The thrust of their interest, in their words: "The Challenge
is open to all types of projects which use new Information and Communication
technologies for educational initiatives and for training young people".
This gives it in fact more of a technology bent than I would really prefer,
but if we think about it ... we are in fact using all this IT to get our job
done so such an application and prize does indeed seem to be appropriate.
Anyway, you can see the application as it presently stands at
http://www.gjc.comune.roma.it/uk/show.asp?IdPrj=556 -- and if you have
modifications and addenda to suggest, we would love to have them so that we
can improve both the clarity of what we have to say and possibly even our
chances. We have until next Monday to make any such changes.

Finally, today as many of you know is International Walk to School Day (see
http://www.iwalktoschool.org/index1.htm) We wish them a great day and look
forward to hearing about how it went.

Regards,

Eric Britton
