Fast lenses can also help.

Last year I had a graduation shoot (Woodside Priory, Woodside CA), and
after the event the headmaster personally/privately thanked me for not
using any speedlights (which would have disrupted the ceremonies since
I was given a front-row seat).

Available lighting was only that from skylights, windows and candles.

I used a Nikkor 50 mm f/1.4 for all the indoor shots at ISO 200 (and,
later, ISO 400 as the afternoon progressed); it worked perfectly, and
the only "processing" I did was some cropping for the prints. And,
yes, I did set a custom white-balance per pre-ceremony tests.

My D70/D70s continue to impress! (I had both with me "to be safe" :-)

Check your ISO setting. I am pretty sure if you are shooting in auto it pics it for you. Turn your camera to P mode and set your ISO to 200. -Lorrie ...

Ok...I uploaded 4 examples in a folder called "Grainy Pics". I'm a big newbie so I'm not sure what "exif " means. Is there a proper way to set your ISO based...

First, you can't blame the memory card. All it does is store images from the camera. 99.9% it's something with the camera settings. If you get "grainy" pics in...

Hi Brent As the previous members have said, it's likely to be because your camera is going above ISO 800 or because the exposure is long. I'm sure tweaking one...
