One of the great features of the D70 is being able to sync the flash at 1/500th;
perfect for outdoor fill flash. Here's my usual method with my D70/SB600.
ISO 200, Manual exposure with shutter speed at 1/250 or 1/500, aperture match to
ambient light, SB600 set to TTL (I NEVER use TTL-BL, indoors or out), dial in a
-1.7 flash compensation on the camera and fire away. Nice fill flash, not
overpowering. Kicks up the shadows just enough.
As others pointed out, leave the Omnibounce for indoors when you have something
for the flash to reflect off of.
