I don't hold out much hope, but would anyone have a suggestion as to how
I might fix this?

My daughter has just come back from a trip, and her 2000 has its lens
stuck out and "System error" on the LCD when in record mode (in play
mode all is fine (although the lens is still stuck out)).

Given the value & age of the camera, I'm doubtful that sending it back
to Nikon is worthwhile, but would be willing to try a home repair.

any ideas greatly appreciated...

cheers,
Calum.

Hi Group,

Pick up 3100 yesterday on sale at compusa, been looking since Dec.,
yesterday it happened.

Plan to use camera for our cowboy (SASS)club meets and for posting
pics on picturetrail site:
www.picturetrail.com/kitdalton

Been working with a Fujifilm 1400. It's been beat up bad, lens cover
held open with duct tape. Same for batt compartment lid.

Looking forward to learning more about all this digital stuff from
group.

There are actually two groups. This first group seems to be relatively
inactive

coolpix5700-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

This second group is much larger and more active

Nikon5700-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

I joined both groups on the theory that it is free an there remains the
possability of picking up a germ from even the less active group.

Hi Bill...

An interesting chain of events. I used a 950 for about 4 years. Bought a
5700 about 3 months ago. Bought a 4500 about two months ago. I carry both
cameras with me when convenient, and when I carry just one it is usually the
4500.

I am continuing to learn about both cameras. One of these days I'll be
comfortable.

I went from a 990 to a 5000... at first I thought I should send the 5000 back,
but I was wrong.

Hi Frank
What do you use to trip and hold the shutter open? I think your advice for
photos
for David are good. I perhaps am a little behind you. I just purchased my Cp45k
this month and am on the uphill side of the curve. I have step-up ring
28mmtoThread and a camera adapter from Orion Tele which I use with a 15mm EP and
the 45k. I have an OLD Orange tube C-8 on a Eq mount guided perhaps close to
yours.
Frank I do not know if it will be of much value to you but I just posted a
database list which we might want to post on our website for future use It is
geared toward Astrophoto and some of it is for QuickCam types but a lot of the
info shared there applies to our line of work. No reason to reinvent the
complete wheel.
Are you on Pbase? Let me know please I would like to visit there. If you want to
communicate directly we can go there too. Let me know.

Hello All,
I know there are several people on this list who are wise to all of the
following knowledge but I see people asking questions regarding software,
tutorials etc regarding stacking,merging,panoramas etc.
The following list is a partial list of sites were you can get a wealth of
knowledge because these men and women have already been there done that. Some of
the sites are for QuickCams etc. but a lot of the knowledge is the same for
cameras.
The following site is for capture and working up images in various raw and other
formats including AVI etc. VERY GOOD
K3CCD (Free)
http://www.pk3.org/Astro/
This next site is a stacking program to make wonder mosaics. Very Easy Drag and
Drop. Most Excellent.
iMerge Stacking Program(Free)
http://www.geocities.com/jgroveuk/iMerge.html
This program is the CATS MEOW
Registax Website Not Free small cost
http://aberrator.astronomy.net/registax/
The next site contains the most extensive Astro material I have found on the Web
His site is A library and you have to browse this a lot to believe it. You will
not regret the time you spend here.
Mr. Jan Timmeramans Beginners Site
http://home.hetnet.nl/~dukoyy/firmament/beginners.html
This site is another Webcamsite but it is the Original and has wonderful
knowledge here also along with a parexcelent WebList. A lot of the knowledge
again goes with cameras also.
QCUIAG Website
http://www.qcuiag.co.uk/
Christian Buil is one of the originators in the WebCam genesis and his soft ware
though not intuitive is very good.
Iris software
http://www.astrosurf.com/buil/us/iris/iris.htm
I hope you find this material as helpful as I have.

I don't think that you will have a problem. I have been
using the EN-EL1 and non chargeable batteries as backup. I
lost my source for a good price on the non-chargeables. I
am using now has the label "Digital Concepts". It is an
800mAh Li-Ion. The en-el1 is 650mAh. I think that this
means the 800 will last longer than the 650. The Digital
Concepts battery has not had a lot of use yet and I have
recharged it only once. I also got the charger for this
battery since it came with the plugs and setup of use in a
car. I always run them down to the point where they don't
have enough power to complete the photo.

I use a CoolPix 880. The bettery that I have is a rechargable, after-
market replacement for the EN-EL1. I think I am going to buy a few
more batteries b/c this one does not seem to hold a charge for very
long.

1) Do these Li-ion batteries lose their capacity over time. or do
they have a 'memory', it seems that I cannot get a full charge unless
the battery is completely discharged.

2) If I were to buy the actual Nikon EN-EL1 battery, would is still
work with the Digipower charger that I have ?

Dear friends,

I have Coolpix 880, and of no warranty anymore.. was last two years ago...
So far it was doing good, until a week ago, the shutter button got a
problem. I still can push the button down and on the half way down the
camera still be able to autofocusing, but when I pressed the button fully,
nothing happen. The camera could not take any pictures.

I have opened the case, and finally reach the problems are. I guess I have
to get a new one for that part.

Is anyone knows where can I just buy the part? I live in Australia, and
have called Nikon representative, but they said that they have to see the
camera first, and that will cost me like 50 dollars, and for labor work
their cost is 30 dollars/15 minutes.. that does not include the part
replacement...

What do you think guys? get a new one? or anyone has a link how to fix the
shutter button?

Thanks in advance..

Regards,
bayu

Please forgive me if this is a common question. I just replaced a
Nikon Coolpix 880 with a Nikon Coolpix 995 and I am having a problem
with all my pictures turning a little magenta and having to manually
correct them all in Photoshop. I never had this problem with the
CP880 in several years of use. Is this a common problem? Is there a
way to correct it? I use no filters on the lenses and the white
balance is set to auto. Thanks for any help provided.

   Juan Miguel

I wish I had read the review first, I wouldn't have bought an 885 if I
had.

The article mentions that the 995 has a "colour saturation control " so
perhaps you could correct your color balance in-camera? I wish my 885s had
this adjustment ability. -Linda

It is a known problem with the CP885.

See http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikoncp885/page15.asp
The article compares the 885 and 995 and says that the colour balance
of the 995 is normal.

So far I didn't manage to find a correction that was effective. The
problem is particularly irritating, when photographing flowers.

Thanks, the white balance is set to "auto" , mode is set to "S".
Should I set the white balance manually (Pre-ajusted)? Isn't CP995
supposed to do it automatically?

Thanks for any help provided

What modes are you shooting in?
