Thats unfortunate. I had heard about complaints of service in Korea, but
not over here. That seems to be trend. Make them cheaper to sell and more
expensive to fix.

Why spent $200 for a focusing problem when I can buy a new camera for
$400???
Makes no sense to me.

Hi!
I have a 990, 5700, and 8800. All have been great photographic tools. My wife is
now the
only one using the 990. It is compact and perfect for her hikes. The 5700 now
only goes out
on my bicycle rides. The 8800 is my work horse.
I'm looking forward to what Nikon has to replace the 8800.
Gordon
...macro shots?
The D-50 changes the colors of my products (yes I do Pre-Whitening
Balance), the 8700 could be clearer....and the 5900 takes the best
pictures but the zoom and focus just broke after 6 months.....
Any suggestions? I shoot products and need perfect color and clarity.
Thank you
Elliot
Found out about this group on dp review. Hope it gets rolling. I have
a pretty old Coolpix, the 5400. Looking forward to being a part of
this group.
JD
HAs anyone bought the new model above? I have a 4300 now and am
looking to upgrade and still maintian the portablilty.
HAve any sites review these new models?
On the home page near the bottom there is a link to the Nikon page for the
current Coolpix models. Interestingly, the 8700 and 8800 are not shown. I
am hoping to still find their pages inside teh support areas.
I am also considering grabbing the PDFs of the manuals and uploading them
to our files section. Nikon won't keep the support files forever.

In my wallet I carry just two pictures, one of my wife and one of my son.
In my pocket I usually carry a thumb drive or flash drive as they are call
sometimes. There I keep lots of my best pictures to show off since many
times there is a compouter nearby to display them.
I like to say, I am not a professional photographer, but I am a
professional learner.

Ray, or moderator, May I
suggest adding a link in the link section to a web site that shows all the
various Nikon camera models.
I don’t always know what the various
models of the Nikon cameras look like, but think it would be nice to go to the
links section of the group and follow a link to see what the different Nikon
camera models look like and what features they may have.
I didn’t know if anyone knew of such
a site or not. An idea that popped into my head tonight.
Thanks for note Ray. I have used
Nikon View, but I have to reload it since I rebuilt my computer and moved.
I seemed to be having troubles with JPG images wiping my hard drive till I
upgraded to Windows XP with SP2. I just tried to restore and finally I
was able to recover some older photos from a backup set without wiping my hard
drive.
Yes, I got Picasa with my camera
too. I also use it, but the new version 2 doesn’t seem to work as
well as the older Picasa Ver 1.6. Hiding folders doesn’t seem to
work in Ver 2. I do like the way Picasa let’s me regroup images and
view videos too.
How does Nikon View version 5 compare with
version 6? I got version 5 with my Nikon Coolpix 2500 and then downloaded
version 6. But not sure which version would be the better one to
use. Since you recommend it, Ray, I’ll have to go back and try out
and learn more about the Nikon View software.
I was just trying to share that PreClick! is
free for a little while and now would be the time to download a copy.
Then you’ve always got the option to use it or check it out later.
Whenever the mood to try it might hit you. I was surprised when they
offered the shareware program for free.

brower programs
Mike,
Have you downloaded Nikon View for your camera? I find this
Far Superior than this type of browser (Preclick). Nikon View comes free with
your camera but you usually have to go to Nikon Website to get it. Most who buy
new cameras get at least one version on CD. It is very easy to learn
how to uses and is fast and comprehensive. If you need further help give a
ring.
I find Windows XP has Media Player which is not bad for
sorting and making folders and getting in order.
Does anyone use any photo brower programs?
I'm using one and they have just made it totally free (Preclick!). Just
thought I'd inquire if there was any interest. If there is I'll be
glad to add more details and link.
Hi all
I am the proud owner of a CoolPix 8800 with the nikon lens hood and
polorizer filter.
I am hoping to learn something from all of you and maybe even be able
to help somebody.
Digital is new to me so I am still learning. The things I like the
best are I can shoot all day and not have to pay for film or
processing and I can have all the pictures downloaded to my computer
in a matter of minutes. I can "fix" them and send them to my friends
or download them to a picture site and send out the link to people.
No more waiting for the next holiday to show off my pictures!!
Bill
I'm used several but my favorite is the Picas 2 program. Totally free with limited editing features. Editing that allows you to edit copies but not the originals. Make gift CD, and run slide shows with audio.

Wanted to drop in and say hello and thanks very much for doing this.
It was very frustrating with the other situation

and regular work particlarly Sunsets, Clouds, Windmills.
I look forward to a great site.

Well that will be my goal. I wanted to let a many people from the old
group join up for now and then as it settles down I can switch that on. I
can also work it so that member can post any time but I would have to
approve new members and that will allow me to catch spammers.

Thanks for creating this one .... btw, I tried to do a search on nikoncoolpix2 or even just nikon coolpix ... and this group didn't show up. Is the group listed in the directory? Anywho ... I might have just missed it.
Btw, I'm not in the know on the new releases of Nikon. Have they or are they going to come up with a model to replace the 8800?
thanks again .... hopefully ... no spammers this time, hihihi.
In theory, you can track down the owner (who may also be moderator) of any
Yahoo group, by using an address of the form
groupname-owner@yahoogroups.com
where you substitute the group's actual name for "groupname". However, if a
group's owner is no longer active, then this mail goes nowhere.
In almost every case where an owner has "fallen off the face of the earth,"
Yahoo will not grant someone else the right to take over ownership of a
dying group; this can only be done with the approval of the previous owner.
They seem to be very particular about that. The only thing Yahoo will do is
delete a group if the owner is gone.
(Though I did hear of one case where Yahoo did intervene and give someone
else privileges when the current owner couldn't be reached, but not before
considerable time and energy was spent on trying to locate the old owner.)
FYI, the full link for the newly-created group, for the point-and-click
among you, is:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NikonCoolPix2/
From there, you can subscribe.
Or you can subscribe by email. I *think* the address would be:
NikonCoolPix2-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
About the new group ... When this has been discussed in other groups, the
two features that are said to be necessary for almost any Yahoogroup to
be successful, are:
(1) Multiple moderators. A single moderator doesn't work when that person
loses interest, or loses access to his old email account (which Yahoo can
be very unforgiving about fixing), or takes a vacation when a problem
strikes. Sooner or later everyone's interests change. Prepare for it now
by having two or three people "share the work" with you.
(2) Put new members on moderated status. That seems to be the easiest,
least painful, yet nearly foolproof way to keep spam off the list. One
thing is certain: sooner or later the spammers WILL find your list, unless
you take measures to keep them off.
Regards,
Andy
... you switch message moderation on for all new members ... that way
they can join immediately, but cannot post messages until approved.
Once certain that they are genuine, moderation can be removed.
JW
Not sure how many of the 2000-odd members of the original group will
migrate across, but well done for setting this one up anyway. I have
tried to contact Yahoo regarding the old group, but I think I've been
talking to a brick wall! :-)
