As a result of our continued success in the online world, PETA's
continuing to open new Online Marketing positions to support our
efforts. Three of these are so new that they aren't on our site yet,
but the rest can be viewed and applied for via
http://www.peta.org/about/jobs.asp. These all available in Norfolk
and/or Los Angeles.

Here are the jobs open in our Online Marketing Department and an "in a
nutshell" description of them:

·         Social Media Manager – oversee PETA's online activism,
social networking, and our blog

·         Youth Marketing Manager – oversee our youth campaign's
online efforts

·         peta2 Blogger – coordinate and write for our youth campaign
site's blog

·         Youth Marketing Coordinator – coordinate online features
like Cutest Vegetarian Contest, Hug A Vegetarian Day, and other large
projects

·         Two Online Activism Coordinators – coordinate engaging
actions to push out via web site and e-mail, manage Facebook Causes,
and more.

·         Online Marketing Coordinator – coordinate PETA's large
online projects, like our annual State of the Union Undress, Sexiest
Vegetarian Next Door, and our online games

A little about our online presence/work

·         Last week ranked #2 Top Digital Influencer is Social Causes
by Sparxoo (also read their Pushing the Limits: A Look at ACLU and
PETA and Environment and Animals Intersect as Nature’s Cause articles)

·         A top 5 subscribed non-profit channel on YouTube (over
15,000 subscribers)

·         Over 400,000 fans between PETA and peta2 (youth campaign)
pages on Facebook , which according to our searches makes us the 2nd
most popular advocacy group on Facebook

·         Over 58k followers between PETA and peta2 Twitter accounts

·         PETA's main blog is ranked within the top 1,000 blogs in the
world by Technorati.com

·         Recognized as "Best In Class" in the "Boosterism" and
"Online Community" categories in CoreWeb.com's review of our online
presence (check out the whole report!)

·         In the past year PETA has launched 832 online advocacy
campaigns and launched 4,813 e-mail messages.

·         And we've received over 50 million visits to PETA's Web
sites in the past year.

Last week we made headlines around the world by launching two
celebrity naked fur ads - with a Twilight star and a football player,
an undercover investigation, and really fun parody online game. And
that's just a small sample of what we did. Even Norfolk flooding and
our headquarters losing power didn't slow us down!

Let me know if you have any questions – and a whole slew of us,
including me, are at the Convio summit for the next few days if you
want to chat.

Cheers!

Subject: [progressiveexchange] Online Communications Associate at ConnCAN
To: Discuss@...

Hi Everyone:

We're hiring a new Online Communications Associate working out of our
office in New Haven, Connecticut. If you know anyone who fits the
bill, please send them my way. It's a flat, fun, exciting organization
working to close the nation's largest achievement gap. -Karen

ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE
Those who insist that we cannot solve America’s education problems
without first solving poverty have it exactly backwards: we will never
solve poverty until we guarantee a great education for all our
children. This belief inspires the work of the Connecticut Coalition
for Achievement Now (www.conncan.org), which has emerged in the past
five years as the pacesetting model of effective state-level education
reform.

Position

ConnCAN has distinguished itself with an energetic “we won’t fail”
culture, a national-caliber team working on state-level problems, and
a focused and committed board. As a key member of the team, the Online
Communications Associate will play a central role in engaging the
growing Connecticut education reform movement through web
communications.

The Online Communications Associate will report to the Communications Manager.

Responsibilities

• Website Maintenance: Update website – re-launching in December 2009
– daily with fresh features and content including blog posts and
photos.

• Database Management: Manage 30,000-person member database, the heart
of our work. Run reports, create mailing lists, update data and
provide staff with metrics. Maintain up-to-date journalist database
including log of media inquiries. Manage separate Capwiz e-advocacy
and online donation systems.

• Email Communications: Create weekly Education News Roundup. Format
and send Education News Roundup, monthly Education Research Roundup,
monthly e-Newsletter, press releases, campaign communications and
development emails. Grow email list through acquisition techniques
such as microtargeting, sponsored petition drives, and Google AdWords.

• Social Media: Manage Twitter, Facebook and Wikipedia presences as
well as other social media tools, including development of a presence
for ConnCAN in the blogosphere through active commenting and linking.

Qualifications

• Must possess a bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university.
• Experience in website content management systems such as Drupal or
Wordpress.
• Experience in customer management relationship databases, such as
Salesforce.
• Knowledge of cutting edge online innovations and a love of all things Web
2.0.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, detail-oriented
and highly organized.
• Strong commitment to education reform and ConnCAN’s mission to close
the achievement gap.
• Sense of humor, strong work ethic, “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude,
and willingness to do “whatever it takes.”

Interested candidates should send a cover letter and resume to

Nonprofit Tech Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions

(Questions addressed to Deborah, the list moderator, by members of
this email distribution list)

Q: How much does it cost to subscribe to the Nonprofit Tech Jobs email
list, and/or post a job announcement?

A: It's entirely free of charge to job seekers, hiring managers, and
anyone else who wants to subscribe.

Q: Are you paid to administer the Nonprofit Tech Jobs list?

A: No. I do it on a volunteer basis, as a service to the community.

Q: Well, then what do you do for a living?

A: I'm an independent consultant in the field of nonprofit technology.

Q: Can you offer me career counseling?

A: Alas, no. I'm not qualified to do that.

Q: Can you review my resume, and find me some job opportunities that
would be a good match?

A: Alas, I usually can't accept such requests via email or telephone,
and I can't offer to do any extensive research for individual job
seekers. However, if you ask me in person, I may be able to make some
helpful suggestions off the top of my head.

Q: Why don't you provide more nonprofit tech jobs that are based in
the region or country where I want to work?

A: I only list job opportunities that are brought to my attention.
It's important to understand that I don't actually create (or fund)
the jobs listed here.

Q: Why don't you provide more nonprofit tech jobs in my field of
technical expertise?

A: I only list job opportunities that are brought to my attention.
It's important to understand that I don't actually create (or fund)
the jobs listed here.

Q: I want to work for a specific nonprofit organization. Can you offer
me a special introduction to someone there?

A: Alas, no - unless I have many years of firsthand experience of your
work, and the organization's hiring manager would like me to play such
a role. In such a case, I will be glad to do it as a professional
courtesy.

Q: Can you give more information about a job that you've posted or
about the organization that is hiring?

A: Alas, no. I publicly post everything I know about the job
opportunities that are listed. If it's not included in the original
posting, then I don't have the information.

Q: I'm highly qualified. Can't you do more to help me land a nonprofit tech job?

A: Alas, no.

Q: I'm really desperate. Can't you do more to help me land a nonprofit tech job?

A: Alas, no.

Q: I'm a very special person and feel really entitled. Can't you do
more to help me land a nonprofit tech job?

A: Alas, no.

Q: Why is there sometimes a lag between the time when a nonprofit
organization announces a tech job on its web site and the time when
you post it to the list?

A: I post job announcements to this list in my not-very-copious spare
time. Please accept my apologies if I'm only able to do this a few
times a month.

Q: How many subscribers does the Nonprofit Tech Jobs list have?

A: At last count, over 2,000.

Q: Does the list ever get spammed?

A: Yes, usually between ten and twenty times a day. As the moderator,
I review all messages and delete the inappropriate ones before they
can be circulated to members of the list.

Q: What if I'd like to post something other than an announcement about
a nonprofit tech job? It's really important to me to get the word out
about my blog, make-money-fast scheme, or pornography.

A: Please take it to the unmoderated email distribution list, which is
at <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Nonprofit_Tech_Jobs_UNMODERATED/>.

Q: What can I do to assist with the Nonprofit Tech Jobs list?

A: When you receive a relevant job announcement, please format it
appropriately and email it to <nonprofit_tech_jobs@yahoogroups.com> .

Thank you for asking!

Subject: [progressiveexchange] Unique Job Opp: Online Content &
Community Manager for Global Cool
To: Discuss@...

Hi all-  I cam across this very interesting position with Global Cool
- content and community manager for a climate change focused
organization with a nontraditional audience.

Overview
Global Cool is a climate change charity that encourages the mainstream
public to reduce its carbon pollution by positioning eco-friendly
alternatives as aspirational. We aim our campaigns at a very
trend-conscious segment of the UK public that are yet to be motivated
by traditional climate change communications, and work with
celebrities, media and entertainment to inspire them to take action.

We are a small, creative, fast-paced organization –with a big ambition
and a growing reputation, network and impact. We run several campaigns
a year promoting particular activities to inspire individuals to
reduce their carbon footprint eg, we recently worked with music
festivals to inspire people to get out of their cars and onto trains
and busses, and with London Fashion Week to promote clothes recycling
and sustainable fashion. Online activity is very important for us in
building and communicating with our audience in order to inspire and
enable them to reduce their carbon footprint. Our website and social
networks are key in supporting our campaigns and talking to our
audience between these periods.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of how to use online
media to reach, excite and engage the mass public.

About this role
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Online Content & Community
Manager will take Global Cool’s online activity to the next level –and
beyond. They will use the Global Cool’s website, blog, social networks
and social media to build our impact by:
- Maximizing our online reach
- Developing deeper levels of engagement and interaction with our
audience online
- Developing innovative online activity that positions
climate-friendly behaviours  as cool and desirable
- Creating innovative ways to offer advice that makes climate-friendly
behaviours easier to
understand and do

As a growing organisation, this role is ideally suited to someone with
lots of fresh ideas, bags of enthusiasm and a desire to excel. There
is also ample scope for this Manager to also play a key role in the
development of Global Cool as an organization, and the design of our
campaigning activities.

The full job description is attached in PDF.  For more, contact the
Global Cool team at info@...

Note: I'm just the messenger.  For questions about this position,
please contact Global Cool.

Thanks

Hey folks,

Change.org is currently hiring a full-time lead web designer and I’d
love to hear if anyone has an amazing designer to recommend.

to being an awesome visual designer, this person should be fluent in
HTML and CSS.

We have staff concentrated in San Francisco, New York, and Washington,
DC, but the position can be held anywhere and pay is competitive.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know or feel free to
forward this along.

Many thanks!
