This is our third forum at the Oasis and a great topic
indeed. I'll announce the panelists soon, but wanted
to let everyone know the date asap. Hope to see you
there! Peace, Jennifer
Biodiesel & Sustainability:
a panel discussion
Tuesday, April 27, 7–9pm, $5-15
BioFuel Oasis, 2465 4th St @ Dwight, Berkeley
Biodiesel is made from 85% vegetable oil, a renewable
resource that comes from plants. Ultimately the energy
comes from the sun, which means biodiesel has a
positive energy balance (more energy is produced by
burning biodiesel than goes into the manufacturing of
it). How does this energy balance compare to
petroleum? How can we ensure that the plants are grown
sustainably? Is extracting oil from algae a realistic
option? What are the pollution/energy tradeoffs of
buying a newly manufactured diesel car or fixing up an
old one? Our speakers will cover these topics and
more. We'll have plenty of time for questions from the
audience and a small reception at the end.
