Saturday, March 15th One Day Seminar:
Going Back to move Forwards

Offered by The Institute for the Study of the Work of Wilhelm Reich

Among the speakers will be:

Kevin Hinchey:
"THE WILHELM REICH INFANT TRUST: Managing Reich's Archives & Other Projects"
As we move forward into the next 50 years, Kevin Hinchey will provide a brief overview of the Trust's major responsibilities and activities.
Kevin Hinchey is a Board Member - The Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust and the Associate Director of The Wilhelm Reich Museum

Dr. Håvard Nilsen:
The Troll Circle: The Social Construction of Wilhelm Reich as Pseudo-Scientist
Dr. Nilsen explores how the view of Reich as a pseudo-scientist with regards to his bion work was socially constructed by the Norwegian government.  This fascinating paper includes a  discussion of the relationship between Reich and Trotsky.
Håvard Nilsen, Ph.D., is a Research Fellow, in the Department of History at the University of Oslo, Norway.

Dr. Philip Bennett:
Work Democracy, Politics, and the Governance of Society
During the same time period Reich was doing his bion research and enduring the vicious press campaign against it, he began writing on "work democracy," a phrase he coined in 1937.  His writings on this topic continued up to the very end of his life.  Prof. Bennett will explain this concept fully and share some of the results of his research work in the Archive of the Orgone Institute, about which Kevin Hinchey will speak at the beginning of the day.
Philip Bennett, Ph.D., is a semi-retired college professor, currently teaching in the Graduate School of Education at Fairfield University, in Connecticut.

In addition there will be a discussion of Reich's bion research.  The day will conclude with a
Panel Discussion, a which time Dr. Harry Lewis puts questions to each of the speakers.

In the 1970s, I reproduced and confirmed some of John Ott's pioneering experimental work on the negative effects of fluorescent lights on growing plants.  Years later, we corresponded and I helped him to produce and make publicly available a VHS version of the movie he always showed at his lectures - "Exploring the Spectrum: The Effects of Natural and Artificial Light on Living Organisms".   This same 80-minute video is now available as a DVD, remastered from Dr. Ott's original films with much better quality than the VHS version.  Below is the standard blurb about it, and it can be ordered online from Natural Energy Works:

on Living Organisms
Filmed and Directed by John Nash Ott

An exciting video journey
through the world of time-lapse
photography by one of the founders
of the science of photobiology.

Do fluorescent lights cause cancer and childhood learning and behavior disorders? Can long-term exposure to low-level radiation as from TV sets, computers, fluorescent lights, and similar devices harm your health? Does living behind window glass and with glasses covering our eyes over years affect our health? Is natural sunlight and trace ultra-violet radiation really harmful to our health? Or is it necessary and beneficial? How do cells, plants and animals respond to constant exposure to different light color frequencies? Does mal-illumination and electrosmog create nervous agitation and a weakened immune system? These and similar questions were the subject of Dr. John Nash Ott's pioneering investigations in the field of photobiology, using the methods of time-lapse photography. In an era of increasing low-level electromagnetic pollution, where everyone is "wired up" to the internet 24/7, and even children have the latest cell phones, iPods, blueberrys and other Wi-Fi gizmos, with eyeballs glued to display screens, Dr. Ott shows we are paying the price with our health and biology. Our indoor lifestyles and chronic wearing of UV-blocking eye-glasses and contact lenses additionally has deprived us of biologically-necessary natural trace-ultraviolet and bluer frequencies of light, with an irrational and nearly superstitious fear of natural sunlight. Dr. Ott's time-lapse movies, reproduced here, show how plants and animals are deeply affected in movement, growth, form and sexual behavior, by these significant bioenergetic changes in our natural living conditions. This is a wonderful video showing Dr. Ott's original film sequences, including entire plants growing from a seed to fruit in less than a minute. A fascinating nature study for both adults and children!

Dr. Ott founded Ott Pictures, and the Environmental Health and Light Research Institute in Sarasota, Florida. Many of the time-lapse sequences in several of the late Walt Disney's films, such as Secrets of Life and Nature's Half Acre are the work of John Ott, as well as the time-lapse sequences in Paramount's production On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.
80 minutes, with humorous introduction.

Digitally remastered from Dr. Ott's original films with a much better quality than the old VHS version!

Ordering Information - Available only in DVD.

DVD $29.95 in hardshell case, region code 1 (North America).

1. Wintertime Research at OBRL: Director's Report

Several of our subscribers asked how we could cope with all the heavy snows this Winter, and how the research program was developing under such conditions, how the orgone accumulators functioned, etc.

Firstly, the Winter snow broke all local records for Southern Oregon, and the entire West Coast has exceptionally good rains and snows this rainy season.  When the lab roof was being constructed back in 1995, we considered the local building codes to be possibly excessively over-cautious, as they were engineered for what would be a 10' snow load.  This year was not so intensive, but from 5' to 6' of snow, more than 1.5 meters did accumulate at the Greensprings center, sufficient to reach shoulder-high.

Several of the outbuildings on the property, notably the Orgone Energy Darkroom, had their roofs propped up from the inside, with heavy timber, as their construction was nothing sufficient to withstand such a heavy load.  In the end, even the timber props were not sufficient, and a local worker was hired to shovel them off.  On our private residence, stalactites and stalagmites composed of solid ice developed along the eaves, merging to make solid pillars of ice stretching over a 12' vertical drop, being nearly 3' (one meter) in diameter.  An ice-dam also formed along the northern roof edges, which do not get Winter sunlight, slowlyl drooping down to form a solid ice sheet which literally blocked the view out one of the large windows -- it had to be chipped away with a pick-axe.

Since this sounds unbelievable, photos were made, and a small collection of them are posted here:
http://www.orgonelab.org/Winter2008.

One of the unanticipated new construction jobs for this Spring and Summer will be to repair small damages to the various roofs.

Regarding research, for major long-term experimental projects have been proceeding in the lab, which includes two new ones recently started.
1) Our on-going To-T experiment continued, though was plagued by the power-outages which shut down the automatic temperature recording computer.  More unexpectedly, the To-T shelter was fully covered over with snow, turning it into an igloo.  This produced some strange effects upon the readings, about which I will have more to say at a later point.
2) The on-going OR-charged GM/Neutron Counter experiment continued also, and it continues to yield from 1000 to 3500 CPM.
3) One new experiment was initiated, investigating the properties of orgone-charge photovoltaic cells.
4) Another new experiment is a somewhat primitive but potentially important experiment to attempt detection of the Miller ether-drift signal in stationary GPS plots of a fixed location.  The presence of an ether-drift would yield a systematic Sidereal-Day displacement of the exact plot of the fixed location, rather than the anticipated one of merely random variables.  Data plots are being gathered with a top-line Garmin GPS unit, with USB output to computer for data gathering each minute over 48 hours, twice a month.  This experiment will continue over a full calendar year, after which analysis of results can take place.

The first two points of research discussed above have already been discussed in more detail in prior OBRL internet postings.  See these websites for more details:
http://www.orgonelab.org/Abstracts2007.pdf
http://www.orgonelab.org/Report2006.htm
http://www.orgonelab.org/Abstracts2005.pdf

Progress on our new book-publishing efforts was diminished a bit over Winter, given the attention which had to be given towards snow removal, but this is now overcome and we are now back on track.

Director of OBRL

2. OBRL Summer Seminar for 2008.

* A 5-day Laboratory Seminar on General Orgonomy (Sex-Economy and Orgone Biophysics) led by James DeMeo, will be held at the OBRL Greensprings Center in Summer 2008, from 2-6 August, Saturday through the following Wednesday.  An Open House Social will be held on Friday afternoon and evening, August 1st, just before the Seminar, with an optional field trip to Crater Lake on Thursday August 7th, after the Seminar.  The program will consist of a mix of lectures and open discussions, with demonstrations of apparatus and orgone energy phenomenon using the facilities of OBRL.
http://www.orgonelab.org/events.htm

Topics to be covered will include (as humanly possible and as time allows):
* Reich's sex-economic findings, and DeMeo's confirming evaluation study: Saharasia.
* Bioelectrical experiments and environmental bio-fields.
* Microscopical investigations of bions and bion preparations.
* Orgone accumulator construction principles.
* Orgone accumulator seed-sprouting experiments.
* Orgone accumulator physical measurements and demonstrations: To-T, Electroscopical phenomena, water evaporation and surface tension.
* Observations in the Orgone Energy Accumulator Darkroom (room-sized accumulator) and of atmospheric orgone energy phenomena.
* Oranur physics and chemistry: Direct work with a cloud-chamber, studying background and low-level radioactive minerals.
* Orgone-charged vacuum tubes (VACOR) and orgone energy lumination.
* The Orgone Energy Field Meter, and similar devices.
* The Orgone Energy Motor: What is known, and unknown.
* Astronomical and orgone-energy observations in the OBRL Greensprings Observatory, with 16" Meade Richey-Cretein telescope, 3" aperture "battleship binoculars", and H-alpha filter Solar telescope and Solarscope.
* Differentiation between Reich's authentic biography and orgone energy discovery, and the various "orgone gadgets" and falsifiers.
* Field Trip on August 7th to Crater Lake National Park (optional, and weather permitting).

More details and registration information is found on the Events page:
http://www.orgonelab.org/events.htm

3. Seeking Used (or New) Computer Equipment

All the experiments noted in point #1, above, use automatic data-recording computer systems.  They run 24 hours a day, constantly, all year long with only rare periods of shut-down.  They are very reliable devices, mostly Macintosh LapTop portables, which are oranur-quiet and pretty rugged.  However, they do break down occasionally, so we are always on the look-out for used items in good repair.  We also need a new computer work-station with a computer of higher processing speed, for digital archive transfers of our old video and audio tapes.  We are also seeking a color laser printer, and a standard B&W or color photocopy machine to replace our own aging fleet.  If you have working LapTop or DeskTop computer equipment no longer needed, either Macintosh or Window's computer systems, and wish to donate them to OBRL, we would be pleased to know the details. Such donations are tax-deductible for the fair market value.

4. Lectures & Seminars of 2007 and 2008.

In the last OBRL Quarterly Newsletter, I reported on a series of lectures given during 2007.  Those conference trips and lectures were extremely rewarding experiences, but consumed so much time and expenses, I decided that for 2008, to dramatically limit lecture travel.  This year, I will give the OBRL Summer Seminar, and there might be one or two other events on the West Coast, but no more.  Research will occupy more time than Educational events this year.  J.D.

5.  Seeking Volunteers for French, Arabic, Farsi, and other World Language Translations of the Saharasia Summary Article.

The discovery of the Saharasian geographical pattern in human behavior, which was founded upon Wilhelm Reich's sex-economic theory and discoveries, continues to gather interest.  While the major book on this subject remains available only in English, the English-language Summary Article (see: http://www.orgonelab.org/saharasia_en.htm) is already translated into German, Spanish, Greek and Turkish, with a summary-abstract in French.  We are seeking someone to undertake a complete French translation of the Summary Article, and also to expand the outreach into Saharasia itself, by translations into Arabic, Farsi (Persian), and other major world languages.  We cannot pay anything significant for such work, but we can offer a bit of cash, as well as books and free admissions into OBRL seminars in exchange.  Anyone with such language skills and interests is invited to contact OBRL.

6.  New DVD Production Available - John Ott: Exploring the Spectrum: The Effects of Natural and Artificial Light on Living Organisms

Many of you will know of the pioneering work of John Nash Ott, on the role of light-frequency and low-level radiations on health and light.  His book "Health and Light" was a best-seller, and most people familiar with Reich's work in orgone biophysics know that Ott's experiments provide indirect confirmation of mild oranur effects upon plants and people.  Ott's time-lapse movies showed clear behavior reactions of plants, insects, laboratory mice and school children to the low-level radiations emitted by television sets, fluorescent lights and other radiating devices.  Heralded by parents and professionals of more holisitic outlooks, Ott was largely ignored by mainstream science and medicine.  He also argued forcefully about the health-benefits of natural low-level ultraviolet radiation, and the problem of "mal-illumination".  This is an all new digitally-remastered DVD production of the original Ott movie tapes, which previously were available only in VHS.  For more information, and to order copies, see here:
http://www.orgonelab.org/cart/xspectrum.htm

7.  Once Again, Another 2007 OBRL Publication.

* WILHELM REICH AND THE HEALING OF ATMOSPHERES: Modern Techniques for the Abatement of Desertification, by Roberto Maglione.  It can be purchased from here:
http://www.orgonelab.org/cart/xorgone.htm

8.  Note and Warning About Pirate Editions

Several persons contacted OBRL over the last several months, complaining that a pirated PDF version of James DeMeo's Orgone Accumulator Handbook which they downloaded "free" from internet contained a computer virus.  We were quadruply shocked at this news.  Firstly, because we never authorized any PDF version of any of our publications, secondly that someone had taken the time and effort to make such a PDF version, third that they would insert a malicious virus into the PDF, and fourth, that anyone participating in criminal theft of our books would have the brass to call us up and complain about their computer being hacked!  From the limited information we have, the virus is a "sleeper" which lurks in the background and scans your hard drive for credit card, passwords and other personal information. When you connect to internet, the virus sends your information off somewhere, to whom we don't know.   For the record: There are no legal or authorized PDF versions of our books, and anyone who downloads or shares such a file on-line does so at their own risk.  Additionally, this constitutes criminal theft, no different than if you walked into our Center, and took copies of books off the shelf without paying.  Since book sales pay for a lot of our bills, we obviously do not take kindly to this sort of thing, and the specter of someone taking the time to scan and make such a PDF of our books suggests yet another "dirty trick" directed against orgone research, an effort to destroy the financial basis of our existence, coupled with a thumb in the eye of those who rise to the bait.  We ask that anyone observing a company or individual selling PDF version of any of our books to kindly let us know about it, as we are preparing legal complaints against several sources which we were able to track down.

9.  Once More, About the OBRL On-Line Bookstore.

Special Announcement
Beginning OBRL's Fourth Decade of Work
Dear Friend of Orgonomy, and of OBRL,
Please Support our Research and Educational Efforts.
At this time of year, I wish to thank those of you who have already supported OBRL, and ask those of you who have not to please consider it now.  Please consider the scope of work-efforts which have been supported and organized through OBRL over the last 30 years, projects which have made a real difference.

I started OBRL in 1978, as an idea at the time when I was a university student and young professor, undertaking open investigations of Wilhelm Reich's pioneering work.  A few donors friendly to my work-efforts, plus my own out-of-pocket contributions helped with critical equipment purchases.  OBRL then existed only in a suitcase, as a dream, and it followed me, as I changed employment to other universities, where eventually small laboratory space was developed and supported through OBRL.  With help from interested donors, I undertook a number of important drought-abatement operations in the USA, using Reich's CORE methods, and my Saharasia research project developed, eventually into a major book which today is helping to bring Reich's sex-economic findings into open discussion within the academic world.  You can get a summary overview of my Saharasia findings and book by accessing these websites:
http://www.saharasia.org
http://www.orgonelab.org/ResearchSummary1.htm
In the 1980s, as many of my friends know, I was subject to a malicious smear campaign by Emotional Plague journalists, "skeptic club" members, and hostile academics.  These attacks lasted for more than 15 years, and were complete with malicious hate-mail to family, friends and professional associates, with terrible smear attacks against my name and work in magazines and newspapers, and even threats against my life and home.  It was nothing so severe as what Wilhelm Reich suffered, but the result was to tarnish my work as "too controversial" for the academic world, where my work had been otherwise exemplary. I was subsequently excommunicated from full-time academic teaching, and the subject of my research findings placed into the modern-day Index Expurgatorius.  In some ways, I should thank those hate-mongers, as this gave me the freedom and inspiration to work fully independent of the constraints of the universities.  That freedom was necessary to build up OBRL.
By 1988, moving to the West Coast USA, I began independently writing and teaching, and OBRL grew to become the vehicle for sustaining my work, and developing the Greensprings Center near Ashland, Oregon.  I was asked by persons in regions suffering from terrible droughts to come and help out, using Reich's CORE methods which I had been researching successfully at the universities, and OBRL became the vehicle for funding of those operations.  When my articles and books on orgonomic life-energy subjects elicited panic-reactions or scorn from academic reviewers, they were published through OBRL, and got an even larger circulation than in the academic journals. While the angry academics banished me from using their laboratories or getting research funding for experimental equipment, and blockaded my contact with "their" students, OBRL helped to construct an important new high-altitude laboratory and seminar building in the forest at over 4000 ft. elevation, with exceptionally clean air and excellent orgone-energetic conditions allowing study of basic life-energetic processes.  And "their" students, the brightest and the best, came to study at OBRL.  Strong orgone energy accumulators and a large Orgone Energy Darkroom were constructed at the Greensprings Center, something not possible to do in more contaminated environments given the hazards of toxic energetic reactions.  Many of Reich's most critical experiments have since been reproduced here, verified with excellent results, while others are in planning for the future.

The OBRL Greensprings Center also hosted many weekend seminars and conferences, wherein students and professionals come for education and direct study of orgone energy phenomenon, for education on the basics of orgonomy, to see the bions and experience the orgone accumulator, to get the facts on my Saharasia findings as regarding the Origins of Armoring or Origins of Violence question (which matches Reich's findings exactly, but with new aspects), and so forth.  In short, all the functions of some future  "University Department of Orgonomic Research" which was never allowed so far, is today being carried forward at the OBRL Greensprings Center in a direct and uncompromised manner -- education, research, and social applications.

OBRL has published five issues of our small but respected journal "Pulse of the Planet", as well as my "Saharasia" and several other books, plus maintaining informative internet sites and an E-Newsletter, with many materials available in multiple world languages.  OBRL maintains a truly international correspondence, with the growing number of people interested in this new knowledge.  The OBRL website provides a listing of my own publications, which also demonstrate an excellent record of accomplishment, especially in moving Reich's name and orgonomic science out of the shadows and into more mainstream scientific venues. See here:
http://www.orgonelab.org/demeopubs.htm

OBRL also hosts an on-line Bibliography on Orgonomy which I developed starting back in 1985, which allows anyone, world-wide, to search out Wilhelm Reich's publications, as well as the bulk of authentic materials devoted to Reich by other scientists and clinicians.

- "OBRL Progress Report, Summer 2006"
http://www.orgonelab.org/Report2006.htm
On the eve of OBRL's fourth decade of existence, I have compiled a summary-list of old and new projects in the works, our plans for continued expansion of research activity, educational outreach, and facilities.  For example:

* Building Projects at the Greensprings Center:  Since 1995, and almost every year since, the OBRL Greensprings Center has hosted lively seminars and educational events, including the 2005 New Research in Orgonomy Conference, held outdoors under the trees on a specially-constructed stage.  However, there is a need to expand our laboratory-seminar building by extending the first-floor to accommodate a larger group of people, and to thereby make the Laboratory usable for seminars during the rainy and snowy winter months.  This will also provide more laboratory space.  Already this summer 2007, a small storage-building which doubles as a student cabin, with a generous sleeping loft, was constructed.  An older storage out-building on the property will also be converted into a livable workspace.

* Experimental Projects on around-the-clock automated To-T and Geiger-Muller counter reactions continue, but the equipment is constantly overtaxed, and in need of periodic maintenance and replacement.  I hope to expand these important experiments to include automated systems for measuring electroscopical discharge rates, and other novel experiments pioneered by Reich.  Some preliminary experimental work on the 19th Century "cosmic ether-drift" question is also under discussion, using modern equipment and new approaches already published in recent years.  See my article on the Miller ether-drift experiments for mention of some of these:
http://www.orgonelab.org/miller.htm
http://www.orgonelab.org/DynamicEther.pdf
An older experiment on Living Water, or water-structuring inside the orgone accumulator, using surface tension and spectroscopical parameters, was pushed into the background over the last several years, without progress.  Those experiments will also be revived and approached with new energy in 2008.
* CORE Research and Applications: With the growth of political instability in the world's great desert regions, I've retreated from efforts aimed at desert-greening, being quite content with the marvelous results from the 1990s work undertaken in Israel, Namibia and Eritrea.  Those experiments generously confirmed Reich's ideas on the desert-greening abilities of the CORE methods.  You can review a summary of those results here:
http://www.orgonelab.org/ResearchSummary2.htm
Consequently, OBRL is today focusing attention with CORE-cloudbusting efforts only in the stable democratic nations. All such efforts continue to be developed in cooperation with the CORE Network, which today has an international outreach.
* OBRL Publishing Projects in the coming years:  In the planning stages are the following new books:
- New Research in Orgonomy, Proceedings from two conferences held in 2005 and 2007, respectively as sponsored by OBRL at the Greensprings Center, and by CORE in Chipping, Lancashire, UK. (Pulse of the Planet #6)
- Greening Deserts: my long-delayed book on CORE-Cloudbusting work, with an overview of modern problems in climatology.
- Saharasia Since 1900: A survey of sex-economic conditions in the modern world, using nation-state data as gathered by international agencies like the UN or WHO, to address the relative levels of human armoring and violence-potential around the world, with new maps, taking up from the anthropological time-line where the original Saharasia book left off.
- New Experiments on the Cosmic Ether-Drift: A review of the work of Miller, Michelson-Pease-Pearson, Galaev, Cahill, and others indicating this is a real and demonstrated ether, similar to Reich's orgone energy, which has been suppressed by the politics of science.
- Suppressed and (Nearly) Forgotten Scientific Innovators of the 20th Century: A chapter-by-chapter review and theoretical integration of the works of scientists such as Wilhelm Reich, Frank Brown, Giorgio Piccardi, Dayton Miller, Halton Arp, Harold Hillman, Royal Rife, Jacques Benveniste, Peter Duesberg, Robert O. Becker, Immanuel Velikovsky, Hannes Alfven, Louis Kervran, Bjorn Nordenstrom, Michel Gauquelin, Harold Burr, and others.
* Continuing the Digital Archive Project:  Our collection of old U-matic, VHS and Hi-8 tapes continue to be transferred into digital format for long-term storage, but this process was temporarily halted in anticipation of new "Blu-Ray" high density DVD recording equipment.  The research materials I've gathered over these many years, which also include archival information from others, are of great importance to history, and they must be preserved optimally.
These and other experimental efforts will continue at OBRL, and they all require a constant infusion of funds for equipment and supplies, as well as for considerable out-of-pocket expenses.  For this, our network of donors is called upon to help out as they can, as the barriers to full participation of orgonomic research in the mainstream scientific institutions are still ever-present, with many prejudices remaining in the "old guard".  Thankfully, however, a younger generation of scientists and professionals is moving into the scientific and medical institutions, armed with the facts about Reich's work, educated in part by such institutions as OBRL.

Subject: Another Nasty Anti-Reich Smear Needing Your Comments

Forbes Magazine Online recently ran an article containing the usual lies and contempt against Reich.  It is drafted as a kind of "sitting on the fence" which both softly scolds the FDA for its overly-aggressive behavior, but is much harder on the victims of the FDA attacks, almost to say "they were so crazy, or dangerous, they had it coming"!  Anyone who has studied the American medical system, however, knows the really "crazy and dangerous" health care practices are found right in the hospitals, being pushed by the MDs, often at the point of a policeman's gun.  The FDA is only part of this kind of problem.

The Thought Police
William Baldwin

If you are able, please leave comments on the Forbes website -- again, polite and to the point, but don't pull punches either.  This is factually an element of authentic fascism within the American body politic, and it needs to be pulled out by the roots!

Thanks to Philip Bennett for bring this to our attention.

We have reduced prices on all the old back issues of Offshoots of
Orgonomy, the 1980s magazine edited by Wilhelm Reich's secretary,
Lois Wyvell. Some years ago, in agreement with Ms. Wyvell, the old
issues were rescued from a basement and put into clean storage,
reorganized, and offered for sale via Natural Energy Works. They are
a time-capsule expressing much of the spirit and flavor of Reich's
later years, along with articles and essays by many of Reich's
associates (most of whom have passed on since) as well as the
struggles of various patients in orgone therapy, losing their
armoring but still confronting the emotionally armored world. In any
case, they are now available at a reduced price, of $2.50 each or $30
for the full set of remaining issues, so long as the copies last. We
anticipate they will become collector's items at some point.

Issues #1 and #2 went out of print some time back, but we have made
#1 available as a free PDF download. We will do this also with issue
#2 when we get around to it. The download link is near the top of
the Offshoots page.

Also don't forget the recently upgraded, digitally remastered DVD
version of John Ott's movie "Exploring the Spectrum" also available
via the same website -- 12th item down on the left side.

Last year, the summary article on my Saharasia discovery was translated into Greek, and posted to internet.  However, we could never get the file to work well with all the different internet browsers, and especially Greek language editions had a very hard time to review that webpage.

Now, we finally have a good PDF version of the article, which corrects those problems.  It is now linked from our main Saharasia page, here:

Scan down that page a bit, and you will come to the listing of various world language translations.  The Greek version can also be obtained directly from this website:

This summary article is now available in English, French, German, Turkish, Spanish and Greek.  A Russian translation is in the works.  We also are seeking to have this material translated into "Saharasian" languages, notably Arabic, Farsi and Urdu.  This requires someone with good language skills, as well as a sympathy for the subject material.  Anyone who could volunteer to do such translations, or do so with minimal payments, please contact Dr. DeMeo via the contact links near the bottom of the OBRL website.

SPRING AND FALL SEMINARS OFFERED BY
THE INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF THE WORK OF WILHELM REICH

The Institute for the Study of the Work of Wilhelm Reich announces the 20th  year of its spring and fall seminars covering selected topics in orgonomy, and on the work of Wilhelm Reich.

These seminars provide a forum for the study of the tremendous legacy left to us by Wilhelm Reich.  This legacy, the science of Orgonomy, has wide application in many of the social and physical sciences, but unfortunately remains mostly unheard of or misrepresented to this day. Yet Reich's work has predated, as well as been the foundation for, many of the ideas which currently have become more acceptable in today's sciences of psychology, medicine, social  psychology, as well as other areas like biology and animal behavior. The seminar is open to the general public and the interested professional. No prior background in orgonomy or the work of Wilhelm Reich is required.

Format:  Each meeting will address a specific subject based upon readings from orgonomic literature.  In addition to these active 'reading groups' there will be an annual lecture on a designated topic.

Location:  All seminars are held in Manhattan.  Participants who live outside of the New York metropolitan area can attend via phone hookup.

TOPICS:.[All readings from - The Mass Psychology of Fascism. 1970 ed. Trans. By Vincent R. Carfagno. Pub. by Farrar Straus & Giroux.]

Sept. 27,  2008  Sat. 10am - 12noon

Most people on the OBRL-Quarterly lists have seen the beautiful photo of the blue-glowing astronaut on the cover of my Orgone Accumulator Handbook, which comes from the Apollo 12 mission.

Last year I did some digging into NASA archives and together with some things recommended by a friend in Australia, can now give two more examples, one being a still photo of a second "glowing astronaut" walking on the moon, the other some blue-glowing things on a "lunar rover" videotape.

I've written a paper on it, addressing the orthodox theories, and giving my own ideas, here:
A few people have also asked where they can purchase this photo, so as a fund-raiser we are now selling high-quality 8" x 12" prints of the best two photos via our on-line catalog:

Some weeks ago, a notice was posted to the OBRL website on a new article:

The Blue-Glowing Astronauts:
Solar Glare? Lunar Dust? Water Vapor? Camera Smudges?
Or the RF/Electrically-Excited Human Orgone (Life) Energy Field?
by James DeMeo, PhD
http://www.orgonelab.org/astronautblues.htm

Shortly afterwards, a blogger-internet group called "Bad Astronomy" picked it up and subjected the article to some mild criticisms, but also some of the typical skeptic-ridicule treatment.  Consequently, I decided to spend the extra time to fill in many details not in the first preliminary version.  I also undertook the lengthy procedure to review the entire internet-accessible archive of Apollo images, for every lunar landing (Apollo 11 through Apollo 17), and made some new findings from that procedure.

I can report, even more so today, the blue-glowing astronauts appear to provide evidence of a radio frequency electronic excitation of the plasma-like human orgone energy field, in the open space vacuum of the Lunar surface.  None of the standard explanations offered by mainstream science has stood firm against the critical evidence detailed in the article.

Those new details are now posted to the same article webpage, and so you might wish to have a second look, or a first-look if you didn't see it before.  http://www.orgonelab.org/astronautblues.htm

Many new photos are given, plus:

* I discovered that a primary NASA photographer, who was assigned the job to render the original photos into digital form had noticed an exceptional amount of "blue-ness" in all the photos -- he stated this was some kind of "artifact" or "film degradation", which he "adjusted" so as to tone things down!!   So the original lunar photographs from the Apollo astronauts apparently were much more rich in blue colors.  He adjusted them to wipe out much of the blue.  I provide the pertinent citation and quotes from that photographer.

* I also discovered that Time-Life Corporation, which today is republishing back-issues of the old Life Magazine, on a print-on-demand basis, has also removed the "blue aura" from the astronaut on the cover of their 12 December 1969 issue.  Details and weblinks on that are also provided.

So it seems, those Blue Astronaut photos are some kind of "dirty pictures" which key people have been trying to tone down, flatten out and get rid of.  Consciously or not, they want to "erase the life energy" from the Apollo photographs, as well as from ordinary people's awareness.

In order to counter this trend, and as a fund-raiser, high resolution copies of the two most spectacular blue-glowing Apollo astronaut images are available in 8.5" x 11" prints, suitable for framing, from here:

Have a look, and enjoy.

As before, authentic critical review is always welcomed.

Best wishes,

James DeMeo, Ph.D.

SPECIAL CONFERENCE EVENTS

Friday Evening Open House and Social: OBRL will be open for an informal social chat and get-together from around 6 PM to 9 PM the Friday before the Conference (July 31st). You are welcome to come and meet others attending or speaking, and who arrive early.  Coffee-tea service with light snacks will be provided.

Weekend Night Events: For Saturday and Sunday nights, and weather permitting, we may open the OBRL Rooftop Observatory for telescopic observation for Conference guests.  The OBRL Orgone Energy Darkroom may also be open for having a look and sitting.

Demonstrations of Apparatus:  On the first day of the Conference, during breaks and off-periods, a few laboratory demonstrations will be presented. The OBRL laboratory will be opened up, along with the Orgone Energy Darkroom, allowing people to sit inside, to feel the orgone radiation effects, which are particularly strong at this high-altitude location. Weather permitting, the flowing horizontal motion of the orgone energy in the atmosphere may also be possible using our large "battleship binoculars". Also a demonstration of the Experimental Life-Energy Meter will be made, and possibly also the blue-glowing bions in the microscope.  Time permitting, we will try to do as many of these demonstrations as possible, so that even for "old time hands" to orgonomy, the events will be refreshing and interesting.

Optional Monday Field Trip to Crater Lake:  One of the favorite field-trips in the area is the drive and visit to nearby Crater Lake National Park.  It takes about 1.5 hour to drive to the lake, through the beautiful Oregon mountains and back-country forests, with a few refreshing stops.  Once there, we take some time to visit the main overlooks and park gift-shops, get a lunch, and then take the Rim Drive around the lake, which typically has the bluest waters in the world.  It will "knock your eyes out"! (not literally)  We then return home, arriving back at the OBRL Center usually around 7 PM.  This event is a fully optional and privately-organized thing, only possible by volunteer car-pooling of those who have attended the Conference and who have a car and want to make the trip themselves, taking others with them as their guests. So we cannot 100% guarantee this will happen, but so far every year we have managed to do it, without leaving anyone behind. More information will be available on Sunday afternoon during the Conference.

OBRL Bookstore: All of the books and instruments offered through the OBRL catalog will be available for direct examination and purchase during the off-times of this Conference.  We suggest to review the offerings through the on-line catalog, and make up your list in advance.  Or, you can make up a list of what you want, place your order on-line, pay for the items when you pick them up during the conference and save on the shipping charges.  See here:

Dear Subscribers,

As some or most of you know, the OBRL-Blog at Blogger.com was shut down due to a few complaints by angry Muslims, only a few weeks ago.  The details on that are posted here:
http://obrlnews.wordpress.com/2009/06/04/angry-muslims-shut-down-obrl-blog-at-blogger-com/

Because an active blog is an excellent way to spread new information into the internet, and not to be dissuaded by fascist bullies, I decided to quickly re-constitute it.  Consequently, last PM I went through the process to set up a new OBRL-Blog at WordPress.com.  It is actually a fairly quick and painless procedure to do it, and while I am not yet satisfied with the image or look of it, refinements will be made over the coming months.  The website URL is:

http://obrlnews.wordpress.com/
I have added back in all the postings from May of this year which were formerly at blogger.com, but obviously all the items prior to that date are gone from the blogosphere.  However, they remain archived and fully available from the OBRL-News Yahoo-Group archive, here:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/OBRL-News-Bulletin

Be aware, you can also post commentary at the OBRL-Blog, so long as it is respectful and you are willing to use your real name.  It is moderated, so I won't allow hate-mail.  If you get the materials from OBRL-News email via Yahoo Groups, please surf over to the OBRL-Blog and make comments there.

Those of you on OBRL-Quarterly probably won't know much about this, as you've elected to not receive the more frequent and controversial materials of OBRL-News.  If you change your mind about that, you can subscribe to OBRL-News directly using the above weblink.

Thanks again for your interest and support,

New item.   A bit pricey due to its being a European import, and the bad exchange rate dollars to Euros right now, but definitely worth having.  From the OBRL bookstore, Natural Energy Works:
(Scroll down on the left-side, for more info and pictures.)

Viktor Schauberger - DVD
Comprehend and Copy Nature
A Documentary Film by Franz Fitzke
English or German Audio (selectable)

The first movie about the work and legacy of Viktor Schauberger. A comprehensive study of historical facts, current research, and various practical applications for both technology and the natural world.

The Austrian forester Viktor Schauberger (1885 - 1958) is today considered to be one of the pioneers of modern water research and holistic nature observation. Already during the first half of the 20th century, he warned insistently against the consequences of unrestricted exploitation of the environment. As an alternative, he propagated a radical rethinking of our attitudes towards nature, and the development of completely new methods of energy production that are in harmony with nature. He formulated his so-called "C & C" Principle: first, we have to comprehend nature, and then we should copy it.

The applications of his ideas and his inventions include devices for qualitative water refinement (the creation of "living water"), spiral water pipes that reduce friction, river regulation in accordance with natural water flow, and the generation of energy from air and water using nature's own principles of motion based on suction and inward spiral movement -- the "Implosion" Principle.

75 minutes. Both German and English versions on one DVD, Region-Free.

Welcome to New Subscribers from Dr. Mercola's Website

It has been about a week since our YouTube video clip "Wilhelm Reich and the Orgone Energy" was posted with an article to Dr. Joseph Mercola's website.  As some of you know, we have been flooded with inquiries and book orders, suggesting a very honest and heart-felt support for Wilhelm Reich's discoveries, and for my own work, from the Mercola internet community.

Thanks for your interest, and welcome aboard to OBRL-News.

I should relate a few points about the OBRL-Quarterly Yahoo e-group you have joined.  "OBRL" is for my institute, the "Orgone Biophysical Research Lab", in case you had not figured that out.

Firstly realize that OBRL-Quarterly at Yahoo is not a "discussion group".  I use it as a means to inform people of my own research progress, of new events and happenings in the field of orgonomy (Wilhelm Reich's term for the "science of life-energy functions in nature").  Everything that is posted to OBRL-Quarterly at Yahoo is automatically reposted to the OBRL-Blog at wordpress, along with a lot of other controversial material, where comments are welcome (though moderated and requiring everyone to use their real name -- no anons).  See here:

Secondly, to be clear, I am not a physician, my doctorate is in the nature of a "Professor Doctor", a PhD in the natural sciences, where I have undertaken many replication studies of Dr. Wilhelm Reich's scientific discoveries, with positive results. So I do not give medical advice, other than very general information about what the published scientific literature informs us about Reich's findings.  You can review my research at these two primary websites, which also reference many books and on-line articles:

Third, for those who want to purchase orgone accumulators, please note the OBRL on-line bookstore does not sell ready-made orgone accumulators, only books giving construction plans and instructions for usage, plus some accumulator-construction materials.
But I can highly recommend the Orgonics company, which makes and sells excellent orgone accumulators and orgone blankets, following the original and authentic methods and materials of Dr. Reich.  See here:

Fourth and finally, if you want to get a really interesting education on this whole controversial body of new discovery, I recommend attending our forthcoming Conference on New Research in Orgonomy, in Ashland, Oregon, 1-2 August.  Details are here:
Be aware, this Conference is filling-up quickly, so if you wish to attend, now is the time to put in your registration.

More details will be forthcoming about all these subjects, as time permits.

Thanks once again,

The Conference on New Research in Orgonomy was a lively and educational event, attended by around 40 persons, plus the many speakers, coming from across North America and Europe.  The Conference was held over two days, on 1-2 August, at the Orgone Biophysical Research Lab Greensprings Center in Ashland, Oregon.  An additional report with a few photos will be posted out later on, probably as part of the regular OBRL Newsletters (see here for past Newsletters: http://www.orgonelab.org/OBRLNewsletter.htm )

For now, you can download a PDF of the Abstract Booklet from the Conference, here:

Growing International Crimes of Sexual Mutilations:
Both tribal and modern societies do them.

1. Female Breast/Sexual Mutilation in Hospitals
While proclaimed as a "cancer preventative", the surgical removal of women's sexual organs based upon flawed "genetic" testing methods is quack-junk science, and is no different from African Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), except that it is wrapped up with "medical" magic and superstition, rather than purely "moral-taboo" justifications.  In fact, one could say, the Africans are closer to the truth, in that they openly proclaim female sexual organs (clitoris, labia) are "ugly, dirty, offensive, and ought to be cut out".  The MD's doing this form of Western FGM won't say that so directly, but wrap their sadism in the language of "science".

Below is the Abstract of a paper I gave on the subject some years ago -- my only correct to it would be, to note this is not just an American phenomenon, but has similar expressions in hospital surgery world-wide.  Such as the introduction of female genital mutilation procedures into hospitals within the Muslim world, something that should be classified as no different from branding of slaves with a red-hot iron (done in "hospitals" to make it "sanitary") and opposed by every decent physician and international health organization.... but isn't:

James DeMeo PhD: "Modern Horrific Medicine: Unnecessary Sexual Surgery", Presented to the 3rd Int. Symposium on Circumcision, National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers, Washington, DC. 1994.
One of the more telling methods for understanding the urge to mutilate the genitals of young males and females is to view the problem cross-culturally. There is a cross-cultural pattern recorded in the anthropological literature, demonstrating that cultures which engage in genital mutilations also have, in general: high levels of political hierarchy, premarital sexual taboos, subordinated female status, taboos regarding vaginal, hymenal, and menstrual blood, male dominance over childbirth matters (couvade), an emphasis upon military glory, high levels of alcoholic aggression, and belief in a moralistic high god. The argument is raised that the sadistic energy directed towards the sexual organs of children is but only one expression of a larger cultural component of sadistic energy more generally directed at sexual functions, especially childhood and female sexuality. From the cross-cultural and other scientific evidence, one can make an extended critique of other ritual sexual mutilations not generally considered to be in the same category as genital mutilations. Unnecessary surgeries upon the sexual organs of women in modern American hospitals are critically reviewed from this new perspective, wherein the same medical shamans who perform painful and unnecessary genital mutilations on children -- the obstetrical/gynecological specialists -- are given similar critical decision-making roles for a variety of other generally unnecessary but often routine and common sexual mutilations: episiotomy, Cesarean section childbirth, and hysterectomy all have been criticized by health reformers for their generally unnecessary nature, and for the subsequent problems they create for the women subject to them. Here, we view them as expressions of culture-wide sexual anxiety and sadism. For the patient, such sexual mutilations dampen or extinguish sexual feeling, thereby relieving the individual of sexual anxiety. For the medical surgeon, the mutilations provide an outlet for scientifically rationalized sadistic urges. Carrying the critique farther, the current "epidemics" of breast and prostate cancer are critically reviewed as expressions of epidemic mass sexual hysteria and sexual anxiety, lacking in a solid scientific foundation. The absence of serious investigation of natural healing methods, the broadening of diagnostic criteria to define larger numbers of healthy people into the "sick" category, and the use of medical-police tactics to imprison and suppress health reform dissenters, are reviewed as critical components in the "scientific" rationalization of traditional hospital mutilations as "treatment". This analysis is particularly relevant where cultural propaganda regarding the "unhealthy" nature of the normal breast is used to justify "enhancement" mutilations, or where unscientific "genetic" screening methods are employed to convince anxious but otherwise completely healthy women into having "preventative" breast-amputation mutilations. Other high-tech screening methods, such as mammography and other forms of x-ray when used for diagnosis in the absence of independent clinical evidence of pathology are critically reviewed as factors in the "elevation in cancer rates". In short, American medicine is awash in a host of various forms of unnecessary, scientifically invalid and barbaric ritualized genital/sexual mutilations. Most of these are as bad or worse than anything practiced by other cultures, such as infibulation of little girls in Africa. While this latter African practice has attracted much attention and criticism in the American press, circumcision of baby boys, and other "modern medical" mutilations, have not.

A back issue of our in-house journal, "Pulse of the Planet" also carried a longer article on the subject:  James DeMeo: "Modern Medical-Genetic Quackery/Modern Horrific Medicine", Pulse of the Planet 4:161-165, 1993.

2.  Centers for Disease Control Demands All Foreskins!

The shot-gun marriage of superstitious "toxic penis" medical quackery, and equally superstitious "sex can kill" AIDS hysteria, has produced a Frankenstein Monster:  Mutilating the genitals of boys and men, to "prevent AIDS".

Review the chapter on male genital mutilations in my book "Saharasia: The 4000 BCE Origins of Child Abuse, Sex-Repression, Warfare and Social Violence".  http://www.saharasia.org   From a sample of 400 different cultures around the world, the following cultural attributes are positively correlated with male genital mutilation:

Narcissism index is high
Slavery is present
Castes are present
Class stratification is high
Land inheritance favors male line
Patrilineal descent is present
Female barrenness penalty is high
Bride price is present
Father has family authority
Polygamy is present
Marital residence near male kin
Painful female initiation rites present
Segregation of adolescent boys is high
Oral anxiety potential is high
Average satisfaction potential is low
Speed of attention to infant needs is low
High god present, active, supportive of human morality

These are factually and scientifically demonstrated to positively correlate with the presence of male genital mutilations, world-wide, and none of them are anything which are supportive of a kind, just, healthy or civil social order.  Regions of both African poverty, and Western promiscuity (homosexual bath houses), are awash in sexually transmitted diseases, and high levels of circumcisions have not prevented any of it.  I've also previously outlined the problems with the spurious geographical correlations between claimed HIV and non-circumcising African cultures, in a "Letter to a Documentary Film-Maker" previously posted to the OBRL-News & Blog, but which is important enough to repeat below.

In both the above cases, the sexual organs are proclaimed "risky, suffering, diseased, harboring germs, unnecessary" and so forth, or they are "a time-bomb waiting to go off", etc.  And they are based upon genetic calculations which are no better than reading the entrails of dead chickens, or casting the i-ching, or "invisible hiding virus" theories which have scant proof.

Cloaked in superior white coat, with patient reduced to infantile status wearing nothing but a loose gown, or actually being an infant, the proclamations are uttered, and off to the "surgical theatre" (that phrase is revealing) goes everyone, for the extirpation of evil sexual organs.  Afterwards, everyone feels so much better.  Everyone except the victim can smile again, breathe deep, and know with certainty that the planets will continue on their course through the heavens.

Extracts from a Letter to a documentary film-maker, on "HIV-AIDS"

20 March 2009
Ashland, Oregon, USA

.... The main area where I could make a possibly-unique contribution to the discussion is on the claim that male circumcision "reduces HIV transmission".  Obviously, if HIV is not the "cause of AIDS", then this is preposterous and sadistic nonsense, an excuse for angry child-hating doctors to attack the genitals of children with knives.  American males in the high-risk groups (homosexual men, IV drug users) are circumcised at between 50-80% depending upon their age group, and it has not helped to prevent "infection" by HIV or anything else.  STDs are still widespread in younger groups of circumcising cultures, and there is no trend of reduction or increase based upon the presence or absence of a foreskin.  I can also provide more substance to the criticisms of that claim as regarding the African situation, which is based upon correlation studies only.

For example:

Given my background in geographical science, and study of social institutions like male and female genital mutilations -- see my work "Saharasia" (website below) -- I've also noted the absurdity of the recent recommendations, or soon-to-be legal demands, that all baby boys be subjected to MGM (male genital mutilation) as a way to "prevent AIDS".  American medicine claims that male circumcision is something benign and beneficial on other scores (a total falsehood!) something they and the Western public would never accept as regarding female mutilations (but, give the doctors another 20 years and they will propose that also).  The correlations are spurious ones in any case.

They are more easily understood as follows:   Northern dry-region Islamic genital-mutilating Africans are largely free from the various tropical diseases typically observed in southern non-Muslim regions (TB, Malaria, Leprosy, etc.) where Africans do not mutilate the genitals of their children.  Those tropical diseases are frequently mistaken for "AIDS" either due to the unscientific "Benguai Definition" of claimed AIDS symptoms (which are typical for many mild or severe tropical African maladies, including from drinking contaminated water), or because the antibodies one gets from those tropical diseases typically cross-react with the AIDS antibody tests to yield up high levels of false-positives.  So this whole issue is riddled with junk science from top to bottom.  The defacto censorship by science journals of materials critical of the "infectious HIV" theory makes it nearly impossible to get this kind of criticism into print, much less into the public media.

There are dozens of issues intersecting on the AIDS issue, most of which are too "politically incorrect" for the typical journalist or film-maker to deal with. Such as the unsanitary and shared pool of body-fluids typical of the homosexual bath-houses, which parallels the unsanitary drinking water in "HIV prone" regions of tropical Africa.  In both cases, typical STDs or African diseases which also destroy the immune system are routinely misdiagnosed as being caused by "infectious HIV".  And I cannot tell you how often I heard -- in my 13 different field trips to Africa during the 1990s, on climate-related research -- about the "promiscuous Africans" as some "explanation" of the claimed "spread of HIV".  The fact that most Africans still get exposure to malaria, TB and other diseases whose antibodies cross-react with the "HIV tests", and often drink contaminated water which makes their blood fill with all sorts of antibodies, yielding a general slow immune system suppression, is never spoken about with anything of the same volume and self-righteous arrogance as one hears about the "epidemic of HIV disease in Africa!!!"  Which factually has not occurred. Africans continue to grow in population, dramatically so, in spite of "AIDS".

Perhaps as a black woman, you will appreciate this kind of concealed racism among the advocates of "African AIDS".   It was for such reasons, and more, that President M'beki of South Africa refused to embrace the UN-WHO demands.  Most of the black Africans I met were very religious people, Muslims or Christians, and certainly far more sexually conservative than, for example, the white South Africans (much less Europeans or Americans) among whom there was never any large problem with "HIV disease".  Maybe you know from the Perth Group, that the number of antibody reactions to define AIDS in Africa is quite few, while in Australia, it is quite large.  So simply by moving from Africa to Australia, any typical black "AIDS prone" African could be healed of his malady!

Medical historians of the future will probably note "killer-HIV" as the biggest example of official medical quackery of the Century, certainly far surpassing the pellagra madness, and with a much greater number of healthy or marginally-ill people speeded into early graves by the same arrogant medical profession (and their media defenders).  It is a far greater scandal than the Tuskeegee experiments, equal to the scandal of the suppression of Joseph Semmelweiss, who identified how millions of pregnant European women were killed by the doctor's own dirty hands, in the disease of "childbed fever".   I would compare AIDS and the whole business of "hiding viruses" or "slow viruses" to Medieval thinking, to blame severe illness upon undocumentable "evil spirits" or "demons" -- or to accuse totally healthy people of harboring such "evil" and then subject them to toxic medications.  HIV is such an "evil demon" in that it has not been subjected to serious review as to its existence and/or toxicity.  All critical voices on that issue have been silenced, in a rush to push expensive medications down the throats of millions of "believers".
