Cordin Freebie is contains full character set but some characters (the 6 combining diacritical marks, dotlessi, fi and fl ligatures, Lslash, lslash, Zcaron, and zcaron) might not display because they were assigned Unicodes lower than 32 decimal (20 hexadecimal). • Since the previous web host of OFFSite Update previews decided to terminate the hosting arrangement, Spymac will now host the previews starting with this update. With the change of web host also comes a change in how the preview is presented. It will now be presented as follows:
   

  		•		The character on the upper left corner is the ASCII representation of the character assigned to the glyph.
  		•		The number on the upper right corner is the decimal equivalent of the Unicode assigned to the glyph. You can usually use this together with the Alt key to generate a character that does not appear on the keyboard. Most programs require that a zero (0) precedes the number. However, the  and  ligatures could not be generated through this method.
  		•		The character shown at the bottom is the preview of the character contained in the glyph. Unless otherwise indicated, the character is shown at 36 points.

    • Seven fonts comprise the Sketch group of scrapbooking type of fonts: Sketch Boards, Sketch Bones, Sketch Clothes, Sketch Logs, Sketch Pencils, Sketch Pipes and Sketch Tools.

      These fonts are from scans of the book, "Awesome Alphabets" by Mike Artell (1999). They're suitable for child-oriented scrapbook pages and similar informal usage.

       

      In making computer fonts, I'm afraid I've done the exact opposite of what the author was trying to promote - kids using their originality to create hand-drawn alphabets. I've modified some of the characters slightly for consistency.

    • Roadway

      Roadway is based on U.S. highway lettering seen on New York street signs in February 2005.

       

      Two weights of highway lettering would often be used in the same street sign, a standard condensed version used for the main name and a half-size regular for less important information like 'road' or 'street'.

       

      Roadway is a Small Caps font. The upper case is condensed capitals, the lower case consists of regular weight small caps, sized at 50% and superscript.

• Replaced the LeFly font Blokletters Viltstift with a newer version. The font initially available requires minor adjustment in the æ and œ ligatures. The latest font is identified as version 1.3. The LeFly page is at http://freefonts.fateback.com/lefly.
   
• We also received a take down request from Jason Skoog. We are still verifying if the request really came from Jason Skoog, as the person who requested the removal of the fonts used a Hotmail account. • The free webhosting account at Lycos UK that was used to show the character set of fonts added to the site will be deleted by Lycos UK due to low site traffic. A link to the image is provided for those using email clients that could not render HTML emails.

    Mandatory is based on the Charles Wright typeface used in UK vehicle registration plates and conforms to the required UK registration plate specifications. Only the upper case letters and the numerals are used for registration plates. Small capitals for the lower case, currency symbols, punctuation marks, printers' symbols and accented characters were added to complete the font's characters.

    Lexia is a copyright free font designed to capture the clarity and accessibility of Comic Sans.

    Lexia is an attempt to retain the strength, friendliness and legibility of Comic Sans, and even a slightly marker-drawn feel, whilst tidying up the comic book idiosyncrasies. It adds a hint of dignity, a sprinkling of refinement, and introduces elements of designer type to appeal to a contemporary audience. Whilst Comic Sans has long been a preferred choice for infant typography from 'Baby on Board' stickers onward, its use risks undermining any serious message and appearing condescending to readers with greater visual maturity, issues that are particularly acute when applied to adolescent and adult literacy.

  FunkyUncial

  FunkyUncial is the result of freehand drawing over uncial capitals from a book. The font has a full character set and comes in Windows True Type format.

  PeeKnuckle

  PeeKnuckle is an offbeat scrapbook type font - thick, quirky and uneven. The font comes in three styles: Regular, Shadowed and ShadowOnly. The characters #, & and @ were replaced with No., and and at. The usual characters can be produced by using the key combination Alt-60100 for #, Alt-60102 for @ and Alt-60103 for &. PeeKnuckle Regular and Shadowed are revised versions of the font. All three styles have full character set and come in Windows True Type.

  PinWheel 'HeartsOverlay'

  PinWheel 'HeartsOverlay' is a font full of hearts. This font can be used as an overlay for PinWheel Regular (included in the January update), so that you can add hearts of any color in the background or foreground. A space character filled with hearts can be accessed at Alt-60100 if you need a filler. The font has an overlay character for all the characters found in PinWheel Regular. The font comes in Windows True Type format.

  SquareShooter Mono

  SquareShooter Mono is HypoTypo's take on a squarish design font, which he decided to make into a monospaced font. The font comes in three styles: Regular, Shaded and Waxed. SquareShooter Mono Regular and Shaded are revised versions. All three styles have full character set and come in Windows True Type format.

  You will only notice the difference between StarryType and StarryTypeLA if you will use accented characters. Earlier this month, Graham Meade released in newsgroups his latest free font, Czaristite, a font family consisting of 10 fonts. It is available in Regular, Bold, Compact, Expanded and Duo, in both regular and oblique styles. Each font in the set has upper and lower case letters, numerals, punctuations and complete accented characters. The font is only missing a few symbols. The font family is only available in Postscript Type 1 format for Windows. HypoTypo released a number of free fonts at alt.binaries.fonts and annexcafe.fonts. Among these are IceCrystals-01 family, PictoGlyphs, PlymouthRock 'SnowDusted', Santa's Sleigh Full family and Zoophel. All fonts are available in Windows True Type font format.

IceCrystals-01

IceCrystals-01 is a font consisting of 48 images of ice crystals/snowflakes. It comes in three styles - plain, continuum and impressions. Continuum and impressions are the plain style applied with effects.

PictoGlyphs

HypoTypo created a font from a scanned image of an alphabet that was posted in alt.binaries.fonts by Claude Pelletier. The alphabet came from a book that was published by the Oxford University Press in 1944. It was also noted that the design was patented on October 17, 1944, but this expired 14 years later. The font has 26 characters consisting of decorated upper case letters.

PlymouthRock 'SnowDusted'

HypoTypo introduced a new variation to his snow covered type font effects, with less snow and ice and showing more of the letters. The font has full character set including the Euro.

 

Santa's Sleigh Full

This is an expanded version of Santa's Sleigh, which is based on a font (Novella by FontHaus) used in the Smashing Pumpkins album, Adore. HypoTypo added the numerals and other missing characters to complete the font's character set. Santa's Sleigh Full comes in Regular, Bold and Deluxe styles.

 

 

 

Zoophel

An original handwriting font with full character set, including the Euro.

Helena Script ES was added to the ES Typography collection. Since there were concerns raised about ES Typography fonts, I checked whether this font has information that made people suspect the font. Fortunately, Helena Script ES does not have this questionable information.

Graham Meade released a free font family, McFood Poisoning, consisting of six fonts named McFood Posining 1 to McFood Poisoning 6 through Three Mile Island and Typothetical. Graham only posted the fonts in Type 1 for Windows.

Two newadditions to OFFSite, Hardnsharp and Reduced Efficiency, both by Graham Meade. The two fonts were posted early today at alt.binaries.fonts and were described by Gaham Meade as

Couple of test runs on ideas that did not quite work.

Both fonts are only available in Postscript Type 1.

Hardnsharp has 126 characters with complete letters and numerals. Some basic puntuation marks are missing. The font also contains a couple of accented European characters.
