Hello

Thanks for accepting me a group member :)

I'm trying to get apache2 running on my TS101. I upgraded to the latest beta
firmware and installed apache with ipkg.

I can start apache with /opt/etc/init.d/S80apache, the log looks normal
accessing apache on the configured port however the server doesn't send any
response but keeps the connection open till the server is shut down. Shutting
down the server logs messages like:
[Wed Aug 12 22:30:52 2009] [error] child process 1511 still did not exit,
sending a SIGKILL

Any idea what could cause this behaviour? Any examples of httpd.conf for an
apache running on a TS?

Cheers,
reto

The file format for HDD in T109 is in ext2 or some other format that Linux
supports.

So, if your computer is using windows, you won't be able to read it unless you
download special driver.

But if your computer system is already linux or some sort of *nix variants, then
go ahead.

Hello all, I was just wondering is it possible to remove my HDD from my T109 pro

my NAS without any problems.

Reason I ask is thinking of backing up all my dvds onto my NAS so i can watch
them easier, but it takes about twice aslong to convert them and send them to my
NAS as it does to an internal hdd, so thinking if i can hook it up internally
put all my dvds on there and then put it back in the NAS.

Hello all Optware users,

If you use Optware packages from nslu2-linux.org, please help us keep
them coming as we are running out of disk space.

Over the years, the nslu2-linux.org group has been developing Optware
packages for well over 20 NAS/router devices. As we enable more and
more Optware packages and feeds, the disk and bandwidth usage for
hosting, autobuilder, and testing server keeps climbing. Right now,
>80% of nslu2-linux.org access are for Optware feeds. And the disk on
autobuilder is approaching 90% capacity.

We ask your help with your generous donation to nslu2-linux.org
http://nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Main/Donate. We are targeting US$1000
total in this donation drive. This is to cover the immediate purchase
of 5 1.5 TB hard disks to be used in a RAID5 plus hotspare
configuration, and also for other expenses such as domain fees,
hosting costs. So far all nslu2-linux.org infrastructure has been paid
for by previous donations from the nslu2 and nas-central community.
Previous donation and spending can be seen at http://nslu2-

Thank you very much,

I did notice in the setup optons of the TS-101 that it is possible to "auto power on when power resumes" (after a power break; system tools - hardware settings). This allows it (theoretically - I did never test) to use the following sequence:
1. Shutdown by cron script (to make sure everything is closed properly and synced to disk properly)
2. Shutdown all power by timer (clock) long after the latest possible software shutdown.
3. Powerup by the same timer on the wanted time; the earlier mentioned option should startup your qnap.
Please let us know if this works, and good luck,
Mees

Is it possible to schedule power-on any other way,
like sending a WOL (Wake On Lan) packet to the TS-201?

Anyone know how to use/install cron on the TS-201
to schedule a power-off?

Hello.

I'm really happy :) owner of TS-101

Is it possible to assign two (or more) domain names
to my TurboStation and built two different web-sites
for them using built-in apache-server?

If so, how can I do it?

Thanks.

Replying to myself an awful lot here. You're a silent crowd ;)

The sources for my lastest u-boot build are here:
http://git.foonas.org/?p=u-boot-tsppc.git;a=summary

I've figured out a couple of my problems so far, but I'm currently stuck
with two problems. The first problem is the delay for which the
bootloader waits for any button-presses, and the second is that pressing
the power button (to switch consoles) only works once. The delay issue
is rather simple, I believe it's just my maths that are off.
Does anyone here have the datasheet on the PIC? IIRC, there was a
command to reset the PIC on the second UART. If my memory serves,
resetting the PIC was necessary to get another the powerbutton to send
another event.
Another untested event is pressing the reset-button on the rear of the
device. This *should* load the default environment, and then write it to
flash. It's a basic failover in case one manages to mux up the env. so
the device won't boot or can't be contacted.

So far, the current u-boot should support this:

Boot from S-ATA (haven't tested, but it identifies the disk correctly)
Boot from TFTP (haven't tested this either, but can't see why it shouldn't)
Boot from flash (Will need a kernel+filesystem to match, this will be
provided by foonas-em soonish)
All buttons work (except the once-only powerbutton issue)
All leds work
Buzzer works (long or short beep only)

If things work out, which I hope they will do soonish, I can start
working on getting the kernel working again. At that point, patches for
u-boot (WITHOUT leds/buttons/buzzer support) and the kernel will be
pushed upstream.
If anyone wishes to help out, please notify me!
(Unfortunately, serial is a requirement, atleast at this stage)

Hi,

after a pretty long hiatus from almost all embedded hacking stuff, I'm
starting to work on stuff again. I found my patches for
LED/Button/Buzzer support on the TS-101/TS-201. If anyone with serial
wishes to test it (It's "impossible" to test it without serial), it's
at http://adm.kynisk.com/u-boot.bin
I can't test it myself until sunday or so. It should be flashed at
offset 0xFFF60000, and can be executed from the primary u-boot with
"go 0xFFF60000" (IIRC). If anyone tests this and it works, please tell
me :)
I'll be whipping up a kernel soon, and hopefully get the patch
accepted in mainstream. After that, I'll go for debian support.

Anyone interested in helping with the effort can join me in #foonas on
irc.freenode.org. I'm "NAiL".

QNAP delivers its TS without installed firmware. To set up the NAS the
fist time they supply 'QNAP-Finder' for Win$ and software for Mac.

Unfortunately I do not have any of those OS's here, only Linux-PC's.
Is there any way to perform the task on Linux?

I am thinking of doing it similar to uploading and booting FooNAS with
aid of a TFTP-server. A DHCP-server is already running on my DSL-router.

Best regards,
Ingo

Hi.

Does anyone know how to make UDP to HTTP proxy running on TS-101 ?

Let me explain:
I'm connected to the LAN with IPTV (via IGMP) channels.
I have also Network Media Player (Dlink DSM-520) which can play
HTTP streaming media.
It plays radio channels (as i've turn it on in builtin Twonky in TS).

So I'm looking for a way how to translate video (IPTV) channels as well.

I use TS-101 as mediaserver (Twonky) with Dlink DSM-520.

It works good for me.
I use it to play local movies, clips, music
like several hours every day...

OK.
In fact,Twonky does not show some files
due to unknown codec or container.
Also DSM-520 does not play some files for the same reason.
But most files work fine.
(Other files can be reconverted to supported format).

Also I've tried to get ShoutCast streaming radio played.
And it worked too (I don't use it)

So the problem may be in your file formats, access rights or
network (like router capability of streaming media routing, firewall
rules, uPnP support etc.)

- DI-624 Wireless Router (rev. D  f/w: 4.04 beta40)
- DSM-520 Media Player(f/w: 1.04.05wwp (not US-EN))
- TS-101 Media Server (f/w: 2.1.1 with telnet support)
   (also used as SMB fileserver, web-server, ftp etc.)

DSM-520 works WIRED (not WiFi-ed) to router.

Hi all,

after installing optware with nfs on my TS-209, i was happy that
everything works so smooth.

but now, i tried to migrate all my perl scripts to my TS, and how
disappointing, libwww is not working. I installed libwww with ipg, but
every request i make with libwww fails with timout.

To go into details, i tried to compile libwww on myself:

perl Makefile.PL
---
Test server timeout
Can't connect: IO::Socket::INET: connect: timeout
The can-we-talk-to-ourself test failed.

You appear to have a misconfigured system, so I will disable tests
that try to talk HTTP to a local server.
---

This error comes from the "talk-to-ourself" script. I debugged the
script and the timeout occures at line 39,
---
if (my $client = $socket->accept) {
---

I'm not sure, if this is a dns-issue. resolving localhost and the
hostname is no problem:
---
[~] # ping -c 1 localhost
PING localhost (127.0.0.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.311 ms

[~] # ping -c 1 storage
PING storage (192.168.42.3): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 192.168.42.3: seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.314 ms

[~] # ping -c 1 127.0.0.1
PING 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.333 ms

my /etc/resolv.conf points to a valid nameserver, everything seems ok,
but where is the Problem?

any hints on this issue?

regards,
macfly.

Hello. I've finally manager to get mysql instaled on my TS-101 using
ipkg, but cant seem to find out how to start it - I was expecting to
find a mysql script in init.d, but there is none there. (I know its
supposed to start up after install, but it was missing a dependency.
I've fixed that now)

Also, once I have it started, is there any way to start it on boot up
every time.

many thanks

Jason

Then svn 1.4.5 is in the ipk feed. Any C++ package would require chroot.

You can also consider git or mercurial.

Hi Endo.

When I get around to finishing the foonas-em installer and debian
support for the ts-101, there will be plenty SVN-support ;)
It should be possible using the stock firmware too, using a chroot
filesystem. This isn't a very good solution though, but insures that the
stock firmware still works.

Hi all,

is it possible to run a SVN server on the QNAP-TS101? Has someone done
this effectively and could tell me how to get it to work?

If there is no solution for SVN I would go even with CVS.

Hopefully someone can help me,

Greetings,

Endo

Hi,

I had the same problem and solved it using the builtin python.

<code>
#!/mnt/ext/usr/bin/python
import socket, sys

def createmagicpacket(mac):
packet = "\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF"
i = 16;
while (i):
packet+=mac
i-=1
return packet

host = '' # Bind to all interfaces
port = 51423

s = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_DGRAM)
s.setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET, socket.SO_REUSEADDR, 1)
s.setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET, socket.SO_BROADCAST, 1)
s.bind((host, port))
s.connect(('192.168.178.255',10000))

wakeupmac=sys.argv[1]
s.send(createmagicpacket(wakeupmac))
s.close()
</code>

The MAC address has to be passed in this form
"\x01\x23\x45\x67\x89\xab".

In a php webpage it can be used like this
<code>
function wakeWithPython($host) {
exec('/path/to/your/pythonscript/wol.py '.$host,$output,$retval);
if ($retval == 0) {
echo $host. " is waking up";
} else {
echo $host. " not waken up";
}
}
</code>

Works well for me.

Greetings,

Endo
