I can start and stop the runtime platform using the
run_service_local.bat, but I cannot do it with the provided sql
scripts like start_services.sql or stop_service.sql.

There is no error message, it just won't work.

Can someone explain this and/or suggest a solution.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Thanks

I have found that I cannot start or stop the runtime platform using the provided
start_service.sql or stop_service.sql scripts. I can run the scripts without
error, however the runtime platform does not start.

The only way I can start/stop the platform is with the run_service_local.bat
file that starts the rtp from the desktop via a java program.

   My question(s) are:
   1) Can anyone explain why I can use the start and stop scripts?

   2) How can I configure the rtp to stay up once it has started?

   Any help is greatly appreciated....

Hi!

does anybody have information of the current market share of OWB?

I read about the Magic quadrant for 2005 from Gartner. There it says
that OWB is in the leading quadrant; in another article I read that
Informatica (about 25%), IBM/Ascential (about 20%) and SAS (about 15%)
are the leaders in the ETL-market.

Subject: Sequence of import new OWB's objects

Dear All,

Always, I receive (from another country) some new versions of
mappings, table definitions , flows , transformations, etc... and I
have to import them in my database.

But, everytime after I import these things, and I enter into a
mapping and see that everything is messy. For example, the new field
of the new mapping is not "linked" with another object. I have to re-
link everything again !

Another example also is after successful importation, all the
locations that I have inside in each module (into properties -->
location tab) disapeared. I have to assign the location for each
module again and again.

My question is : To avoid these kind of problems, what I have to
do ? How is the sequence that I have to apply in each "import"
process to avoid these re-work problems ?

Best Regards and thanks in advance,
Otavio Tallarico.

Otavio,

Ideally, the import sequence should not matter. You can try importing
the independent objects first, like tables, views etc followed by
mappings.

Oracle had published a function called restore earlier on OTN (I'm
sorry i don't have the link) that i have used in the past to fix
similar problems where the links had disappeared upon import. I have
seen the second problem but don't think the restore function takes
care of that. I have had to fix it manually too. You could possibly
write an OMB script for the second one as well if OTN doesn't help
you.

Dear Sachin,

Thanks for your help. I forgot the OBMPlus program to help me to write a
script that import step-by-step the sequence of objects that I have to import.

About (missing modules X missing database links) I'll investigate it in OTN.

   Best Regards,
   Otavio.

You need to tell th emap where to pick the view from.
In the configuration you need to set the schema and db link information.

Hi Kumar,

Check the following:
1. That the dblink you used when importing the schema structure into
OWB is also what is used during Runtime. I know the configuration for
Design and Runtime are different, so you can check this.
2. That the Table Operation is actually Insert inside the mapping.
3. If you have OWB Runtime Audit Browser set up, it should help you see
if there are any errors during the mapping execution.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Rotimi Rufus.

Kumar,

You need to be little specific.
1)After you run the map. does it end successfully?
   2) Go to owb runtime schema and check for any runtime errors . OR
3)Go to Database -->Package (Every mapping generates a package).
Cut and paste the select code genearted from the package(do not write your
own) , execute it , to see if it fetches any record.

   Regards,
   Praveen

ROTIMI ADEMOLA <arrufus@...> wrote:

In your case i think when you run deploy the map u should get some warnings
saying Table or view does not exist. then in that case u need to give the select
permission to the owb runtime repository
GRANT SELECT permission to THE USER OWB RUNTIME REPOSITORY .

u r saying that u can select the records from the view in the reposotory. butcan
u select of the view in ur target schema??. do both source and target reside in
the same database...? if so then OWB doesnt create a DBlink. and see if u can
select off the view using the schema reference.

Dear Colleagues,

Maybe I can give you some steps. I had the same problem...

Install Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 schema via Windows
This as an alternative to the problems with the installation of workflow
tables on Unix.
   · Install the Oracle 10g database software on a Windows client (but
don’t create a database)
This installation is very similar to installing Oracle 10g on Unix.
   · Update the Oracle 10g database software to version 10.1.0.4.
This installation is very similar to installing this patch version on Unix.
   · Install Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 in the Oracle 10g database home
directory.
This installation is very similar to installing Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 on Unix.
   · Create a tnsnames.ora file (in $ORACLE_HOME\network\admin) so that
the next step can connect to the database. (Forgetting this will result in the
error ‘This is not an Oracle 10g database’ which is a very confusing error when
the real problem is that it cannot contact the database.)
After creating a tnsnames.ora file test the connection. (Use SQL*Plus to test
the connection.)
   · Create the user owf_mgr in the database:
   o       SQL> grant connect,resource,dba to owf_mgr identified by owf_mgr;
   · Start workflow install on Windows and enter the needed parameters.
In a DOS box execute:
o Make sure database is started and a connection from Windows is
possible
   o cd ……oracle_home….\wf\install
   o wfinstall.bat
   § Workflow account: owf_mgr (default)
   § Workflow password: owf_mgr
   § sys password: manager
   § Install options: Install
§ Language selection: US (cannot be changed)
   § Connect method: remote
   § Connect string: DWH1
(DWH1 is here the SQL*Net connect string.)
   § Host name: <computer>
   § JDBC connection: <computer>:1521:DWH1
(DWH1 is here the ORACLE_SID that is used on computer <computer>!!!
JDBC connections use the format <computer>:<port>:<oracle_sid>.)
§ Enter LDAP parameters (optional): no
§ Enter Mailer parameters (optional): no
   § Change Tablespace: no
Notes:
   · You can try yes but it’s not possible to change the value to
WORKFLOW. That is why the WORKFLOW tablespace is not needed anymore when
creating the database.
   · Setting the default tablespace of user owf_mgr to workflow before
starting the installation does not solve the problem.

The middle tier and client part of the Workflow installation are not needed.

   As user system do :

       grant execute any procedure to owf_mgr;

     After this, don't forget to create a flow module in OWB and its location ;
and inside runtime right-click on FLOW module created and Register the location
flow with the login OWF_MGR

   I hope it helps.

   Cheers,
   Otávio Tallarico.

solution....

owb_kid <owb_kid@...> wrote: Hi all

I am pretty new to OWB and also to this group.

On box A
a) I have installed Oracle 10.1.0.4
b) I have installed OWB (Runtime repository etc)

On box B

a) I have installed OWB (design time)

I have been going through some doco and one of which asks us to
install Workflow.

My question is, Oracle does not ship Workflow with the database. Do I
need to download Workflow and install it in box A.

Can some one please help me through this.

Cheers

Owb kid.
