I think I am an advanced user but still I found quite a basic problem
that I am not able to solve:
Please, need help with pairing MAP and PNG files. Sample file path for
a PNG file
   K-37-007-A-b.png
   in MAP file is
../../../../maps/25000/K-37/K-37-007-A-b.png
What directory shall I put the PNG file?
Slash shows some net directory [?]. Even if I had to install the local
webserver on my computer, it still worth the effort. I especially do
not understand this: ../../../../
Changing the MAP file after manualy the target PNG file found is not a
propper solution becase I have several hundreds of these maps. [smtm =

   Your help is really appreciated.

The (DOS) convention for /.. is to refer to the directory/folder above
the current.

But you mention a server, so maybe to do with that. At times used to
imply a folder, when the path is very long and would not display
within the space available.

To achieve your requirement, just put the image files in the folder
you want them and the map files into the folder you want them.

Then in OziEx select the menu, 'File ¦ Change Image File Name, Path & Drive'.

That will allow you to do a whole folder at a time.

The simplest thing to do is to put your map images
(the PNG files) in the same folder as the .map files.
When OziExplorer opens a .map file, if there is a
map image file that matches the name specified in
the .map file in the same folder as the .map file,
then that map image is used, regardless of the
map image file path in the .map file.

If you want to do this, but you also want to fix
the map image paths in the .map files, then use
"Change Image File Name, Path & Drive" on Ozi's
File menu.

Of course you can also use "Change Image File Name,
Path & Drive" to set the correct paths in the .map
files if you want to have the .map files and the
PNG files in different folders.

As for the paths in your current .map files:
A)
To see your screen capture people will have to go
to this group's Files area, into the **TEMP** folder,
and look at Pairing-MAP-PNG.jpg (because the link
you provided may not work for other people).
B)
The ".." in your path refers to the "parent directory/folder".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_%28computing%29
You can easily see this for yourself:
- open a DOS command prompt
- change to a directory/folder that has a parent, e.g.:
   cd C:\Windows\System32
- use the cd (change directory) command and "..":
   cd ..
- you will see that you have moved up to the parent
   directory "C:\Windows"
And and single dot(.) refers to the current directory.
While in a DOS command prompt, in a directory with
not a lot of files, type "dir"(without the quotes)
and you will see the list of files/directories starts
with two directories identified as "." and "..",
referring to the current directory and it's parent.

You can put the MAP file wherever you want. Change the line in the MAP file to
point to the current PNG location by:
1) use a text editor to change the PNG location in the MAP file
2) use the built-in Ozi function ... File menu > Change Image File Name, Path &

Many thanx to Reg [green_rover2002], Dave Patton [canadadcp] and [pixseal] for
the answers. Yes, I did not know multi-change of directory function. That's
great but still it doesnot work properly ...

After I apllied the change all the files MAP were changes. However, the valid
directory:
E:\SMTM\25000\K-37_maps\
was added infront of the former value:
../../../../maps/25000/K-37/K-37-007-A-b.png
so result is like this:
E:\SMTM\25000\K-37_maps\../../../../maps/25000/K-37/K-37-007-A-b.png

To Dave Patton:
1] putting the pair in the same directory doesnot work
2] thank you for the link to wiki, pls. note the difference between / and \ in
DOS+Win contra Unixes
3] Grat photography!

To Dave [pixseals]
Great photography too!

Maybe try using the "Remove path" option in Map2PPC?
You can find a link to Map2PPC on the Ozi Utilities page:

1] The recommanded utility map2ppc did not work.
Problem seems to be in syntax ../../../../maps/25000/K-37/K-37-008-D-b.png - dot
dot slash.
With files using reverse slash "\" it works o.k., deleting the path and leaving
the file name.
Then - no matter what file path is in the MAP file, when MAP and PNG file in the
same directory, map is opened.

2] I tried several hexasecimal editor, successfully but one file at a time. But
I found Search and Replace on http://www.funduc.com
All the files in a directory at a time. This editor found on the 3rd line of a
map file ../../../../maps/25000/K-37/ and replaced it with just E:\ Thus
corrected map file can be handled by OZI easily.

Thank you everybody for your help!

I don't know if someone has already thought of this, but I have found an easier
way of caching an area for offline use using Internet Maps. Many of you
probably already know there's a program out there called gpsgate.
This program allows you to run a simulator with an unlimited number of points.
Here's what I do.
Change the Lat long format on ozi to degrees so it will match the input of
gpsgate.
Go to the maximum zoom level you want to cache and enter the starting point
lat/long in gpsgate simulator. With a wide screen, your probably better off
going north and south. find out the width of your screen at the max zoom level
you want. Make it easy on yourself. Here's are entries I used...(example)
1.-85.0 39.0
2.-85.0 24.0
3.-84.95 24.0
4.-84.95 39.0
5.-84.90 39.0
6.-84.90 24.0

Using this zigzag patter, on my computer nothing is missed. I set the speed for
2000 knots and no tiles are missed. After the sequence is completed, you can
zoom out one notch and start again. The is the quickest way I have found so far
to cache larger areas at diff zoom levels. It takes some time to enter the
numbers but once they are in, your good to go at all zoom levels as long as you
get it right on your max zoom first. You'll need to use different speed for
different internet connection speeds..............Robb
PS this is the exact zigzag pattern that worked on my computer for zoom 15.
There will be overlap when you zoom out but it doesn't matter.

Hi Robb

Interresting way of using Gpsgate and moving map feature.
2 years ago I also posted the details on how to use MoBac to download
tiles in the right format for Ozi InternetMap cache (without going
though creation of map).

Best regards,

I have a Kindle Fire (that uses the most recent Kindle Android operating
system), and wondered if I could get OziAndroid Beta up and running.

It did, no problem. I converted one of my own scanned Ozi maps to OZFX3 format
and transferred them to the ozi/maps directory on the Kindle Fire. To my
surprise, the Ozi program came up fine and was able to load my map. The tracks
I selected to plot were in the right position, but the track colors were off -
one coded as red displayed as blue.

The menus used to load and manipulate tracks seemed a bit clumsy compared to Ozi
on a desktop. Of course, no real editing is possible, but it would be nice to
be able to load differebt colored tracks correctly. When swapping the
orientation of the Kindle, the screen changed perspective correctly. I couldn't
find any big problems.

Too bad the USB port on the Kindle is "dumb." It apparently can only be used to
treat the Fire as a disk drive for the purposes of transferring data to/from the
PC like a disk drive. If I could plug in a little USB mouse GPS, it would make
a very cool navigation system. However, I have been told that the Kindle just
wont work with a GPS input.

Thought folks would like to know that the Ozi Android application seems to work
with the Kindle Fire, but with no possible GPS input, its a "so what?" for me
anyway.

Ah, crossed wires ..... I have only used the PC version.
My Ozi desktop machine (Dell Optiplex GX 620, Win XP Pro) must be at
least 10-12 years old.
Runs ozf3 fine, albeit a tad slow on larger files.

The PC sees the Zumo (if I look via devices it's there and says it's all
working).

In the COM tab, select the Garmin USB box and the Use PVT.. box. I hace
Driver 2 selected but I don't think tha makes any difference.

I am using OziExplorer ver 3.95.5n. It works well with my two desktops running
Windows XP SP3 and a USB cable to my GPS.

I have a new laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. When I connect my Garmin GPSmap
60CSx to a USB port and try to get waypoints from the GPS, I get "A Garmin USB
GPS could not be found" message.

In the Configuration under the GPS tab, I have the GPS make and model specified
correctly, and in the COM tab I have Garmin USB checked.

Any ideas on what might be the problem?

Hi Paul,

I would head to the Garmin website and download the latest USB drivers

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=591

This will ensure that the latest drivers are loaded

Cheers - Phil

JB Hi Fi have a Garmin 2455LM with lifetime map upgrade for $198 and I am trying
to find out if it will talk to Ozi, i.e. download a track file to Ozi.

In the specs on this link

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=107134&ra=true

at the bottom of the page in the section "Additional" it says that it has a
"Trip Planner" and "Trip Log" but it doesn't say if the trip log can be
downloaded to a PC.

Does anyone know if the 2455LM will do that, or does anyone know another current
Nuvi model number that will do it?

Thanks in advance,
John P

I'm having the same problem with my Garmin GPSMap 76CSx. I just installed
the latest drivers as per the link below and still no joy. Any other
suggestions?
Thanks,
Steve

works for me with version 3.95.4s

File
    Configuration
GPS tab GPS model GPSMAP 76C/CS
COM tab tick Garmin USB, Use PVT for Garmin instead of NMEA

Click Garmin tab
    Show GPS Protocol Info

If Garmin connected you will see protocol information.

Yes

But you will have to use the file open GPX file option. Nuvi's save their
track files in GPX format in garmin/gpx/archive folder.
