If I download more than 1 track to oziexplorer & then run the track replay the
active track (which has not been saved) shows speed, bearing & distance. The
other tracks only show bearing & distance. Have I missed something in the
configuration.

Romain,

Have you tried to convert the french Lambert II coordinates into
the UTM coordinates ? I found some time ago a tool to convert in that
way. It was a siple convers.exe with an ini file.
If you want to have it and dont find it on the internet I will send it
to you.
Just mail me chris.butnaru@...

but a bit annoying when the sun hits them in the wrong angle. does anyone
know if there is anything i can do to lessen then visibility of the damage.
i know that there is a "polishing" solution for cds but im pretty sure the

Hi

I would be surprised if the screen was actually glass, however if it is, I
remember reading a suggestion to clean scratches on glass you can use
cigarette ash. I am only repeating what I read, I have never tried it.

My suggestion for a plastic screen is to use Brasso (metal polish) it works
great on plastic and acrylic etc, even revives some CD's, I fixed one of my
CD's this way.

Regards

Peter

BTW a search for "removing scratches from glass" on Google gave over 11,000
hits.

In Garmin units the tracks are saved without time informations, so
is impossible to compute the speed. Only active track contains time
info. Ciao.

Try and promote other tracks to top position in the track control and
see if they work. I think only the active (no. 1) track is used.

Can't speak for all Garmin units, but my GPS II+ definitely stores time
information, and happily transfers the details to Ozi.

GPS II+ keep only one "tracklog". My eMap (and a number of recent
Garmin units) keep one "tracklog" (2000 points max) known as the
"active track", but there is a function to save the tracklog in a
more compact "track" (250 points, without time info).
So when I download track data I get one track of 2000 points with
time, plus a number (up to 10) of tracks of 250 points without time.

Lots of Raster stuff from OSGB, but very pricey of course. For
example UK wide 1:10,000 is available if you have about 220,000 US
dollars to spare (144k UK Pounds). Other stuff is available for an
annual licence fee.
Part of the web site allows free download of map snippets (400 x 400
pixels in 24 bit colour) at a variety of scales.
Finally the long awaited Vector based OS mapping project is now
available.

Details of all the above is at their web site
(http://www.ordsvy.gov.uk/ if you want to take a peek).

I download tracks into a Palm PDA using a program called GPilotS. My PDA (a Palm
IIIC) can store a very large number of full track logs. These track logs can
then be loaded into Ozi. I do not continuously record the logs using the PDA. I
use my Garmin to record the log, downloading the log once or twice per day as
the Garmin log begins to fill up. I record track points at fixed time intervals
so that I know when the track log is getting full without having to check it.

I hope this helps.

Hi Hal.
I am a sailor too with a laptop onboard. Do you sail the whole week
without stopping? Or do you stop over night? In this case you can make
how many tracks you want per day. Then you can merge them together
afterwards in Ozi.

But for nonstop-sailing I don´t know, if you cannot tell the GPS not to
store points so often?

Actually, most of my trips are for a day or so. But, am planning to cross
the Gulf to Mexico in April. Should take about 10 days. I have a paddle
wheel knot meter that logs total distance and that is what I would like to
duplicate using GPS. Sort of a permanent record of trips over a long period
of time, including short day trips. Then occasionally, I could down load log
and save as historical record. The GPS would be as simple as an etrex and a
low current logging device connected via nema bus. GPS data is also
connected to autopilot, VHF and a port for laptop connection. It should be
simple and automatically turn on when boat is in motion. Sound's simple
enough, but, being a ham I like to tinker.

I used the Datalogger for 6+ weeks in WA and SA last year. Yes, you can save
some money by just assiduously downloading track logs from the GPS receiver to
your notebook, keeping all the files straight, etc. But the Datalogger is a
slick and comforting convenience, with well-thought-out switches to conserve
memory when you're not moving. Tracks can record altitude too, not of much
interest to mariners or land travelers in most of Australia, but useful in the
more youthful terrain of western North America.

Most of those of us who fantasize about engineering something like this on our
own might be well advised just to just ante up for the Datalogger. There are
exceptions to such a rule, but if you have to wonder whether you're such an
exception, you probably aren't.

Highly recommended gismo, IMHO. (Would be better with USB support.)

Yes, GPilotS is a Palm application. It is available for free from Christian=

I use beta version 5.0, which is compatible with my GPSMAP 76. Apparently t=
his beta is no longer posted on the website, but 4.5 is available, and it wo=
rks for tracklog maintenance with the 76 and older Garmins. (Versions prior =
to 5.0 do not provide waypoint management with the 76.)

I use a Garmin-to-Palm cable to connect my Palm IIIc to my Garmin. These ca=
bles are available from Blue Hills Innovations for about $25. Their website =
can be found at

http://www.blue-hills-innovations.com/blmstr.htm

I use this combination when sea kayaking, where real-time data logging with=
a laptop is not practical. I can log tracks with my (waterproof) GPS receiv=
er, downloading the tracks when on shore into my Palm.

I hope this helps.

Dan
