Well, with that question, then I have no idea what you intended for me to do
with ability pools. If I can't use those to grant/restrict schools, then I have
no clue what you were suggesting for me to do.

Nevermind, I found the "PRESPELLSCHOOL" tag. That should let me at least set a
prerequisite for my prestige classes so that they can't join one related to a
prohibited school.

Just wondering if there is a tag allowing access to Spell Schools? For example,
if I chose a Specialist Wizard, and wanted a Prestige Class that would allow him
to regain use of one of his prohibited schools.

I would hope there was a tag for this, but I haven't been able to find it.

Hi,

Currently no. Is this Pathfinder?

No, it's for a homebrew setting based on 3.5. I'm trying to come up with
alternate ways around my problem from the other day, multiple
subclasses/specializations.

I figured the easiest way to avoid the subclass issue was to just prohibit all
schools of magic to the class by default, then allow them to select two usable
schools. Unfortunately, if there's no tag for that, it won't really work...

Hi,

Homebrew setting with a homebrew class?

Ah, well I don't know how you've got it set up, but why not make the class just
one and do this:

CLASS:Wizard Wonder
1 <> PROHIBITSPELL:SCHOOL.Evocation|PREVARGTEQ:ProhibitEvocation,1
repeat for all the schools in your system. Then you choose your prohibited
schools, and the var is
set, when you get a feat or ability that allows you to remove a restricted
school, you just devalue
the var in question. Problem solved. ;)

You know, that does solve a few old issues, I should think about implementing
that for our core.
Thanks for the brain puzzler. :)

Cheers,

I'm not proficient enough in the system that I've started using variable values,
but I'll tinker with that and see what I get out of it. Thanks for the
suggestion! :)

Hi,

Fair enough, I can give a bit more detailed assessment then:

#Class File
CLASS:My Uber Cool Wizard
1 PROHIBITSPELL:SCHOOL.Evocation|PREVARGTEQ:ProhibitEvocation,1
1 PROHIBITSPELL:SCHOOL.Illusion|PREVARGTEQ:ProhibitIllusion,1
1 PROHIBITSPELL:SCHOOL.Enchantment|PREVARGTEQ:ProhibitEnchantment,1
1 PROHIBITSPELL:SCHOOL.Necromancy|PREVARGTEQ:ProhibitNecromancy,1
1 PROHIBITSPELL:SCHOOL.Abjuration|PREVARGTEQ:ProhibitAbjuration,1
SUBCLASS:Evoker CHOICE:SCHOOL|Evocation KNOWNSPELLSFROMSPECIALTY:1
BONUS:ABILITYPOOL|Wizard Prohibited School|2
SUBCLASS:Illusionist CHOICE:SCHOOL|Illusion KNOWNSPELLSFROMSPECIALTY:1
BONUS:ABILITYPOOL|Wizard Prohibited School|2
#Abilitycategory File
ABILITYCATEGORY:Wizard Prohibited School CATEGORY:Special Ability
VISIBLE:QUALIFY
TYPE:WizardProhibitSchool EDITABLE:YES EDITPOOL:NO
DISPLAYLOCATION:Class Abilities
PLURAL:Wizard Prohibited Schools

#Ability File
Forbid Evocation CATEGORY:Special Ability !PRESUBCLASS:1,Evoker
DEFINE:ProhibitEvocation|0 BONUS:VAR|ProhibitEvocation|1
Forbid Illusion CATEGORY:Special Ability !PRESUBCLASS:1,Illusionist
DEFINE:ProhibitIllusion|0 BONUS:VAR|ProhibitIllusion|1

(repeat for each prohibit school)

Hope that gives a better picture.

So, in essence, it's making a feat pool that tells you to prohibit your spells
that way, rather than making it intrinsic to the subclass selection process
itself? That's intriguing. And it should solve my problem perfectly.

Yeah, pretty much. Only way I can think of that solves the issue for you.

ok...

I've made a bunch of regional trait, with my template FR Background...
everything work perfectly... or near.

When giving a FEAT with a Choice, the choice doesn't pop-up.

Ex: Artist feat which gives you +2 Bonus on a choosen craft.

#TRAIT (working):

The Dalelands KEY:The Dalelands CATEGORY:Special Ability
TYPE:Trait.FRRegionalTrait TEMPLATE:The Dalelands
CHOOSE:NUMCHOICES=1|FEAT|Artist|Blooded|Caravanner|Fleet of Foot|Forester|Luck
of Heroes (FR)|Militia|Strong Soul MULT:YES AUTO:FEAT|%LIST DESC:You write and
speak Chondathan. You also choose between Artist, Blooded, Caravanner, Fleet of
Foot, Forester, Luck of Heroes (FR), Militia or Strong Soul as a bonus regional
feat. SOURCEPAGE:p.12

#Artist FEAT
Artist TYPE:General DESC:You come from a culture in which the arts,
philosophy, and music have a prominent place in society.
STACK:NO MULT:YES CHOOSE:NUMCHOICES=1|SKILLSNAMED|TYPE.Craft
SELECT:1 BONUS:SKILL|TYPE.Perform|2 BONUS:SKILL|LIST|2
SOURCEPAGE:p.33
BENEFIT:You gain a +2 bonus on all Perform checks and to one Craft skill that
involves art (your choice) such as calligraphy, painting, sculpture, or weaving.

Is there a way to have the bonus feat gain its benefit?

Thanks

Hi,

A choice upon a choice - or what would be called nesting - is not possible. In
order for that to
work you have to have the choice preselected in your list. The alternative to
listing every
potential feat and choice it can have is to create an abilitypool and have the
selection be made there.

# Abilitycategory

ABILITYCATEGORY:The Dalelands Bonus Feat CATEGORY:FEAT
ABILITYLIST:Artist|Blooded|Caravanner|Fleet of Foot|Forester|Luck of Heroes
(FR)|Militia|Strong
Soul VISIBLE:QUALIFY DISPLAYLOCATION:Racial Abilities

# Ability
Remove CHOOSE and the associated, replace with BONUS:ABILITYPOOL|The Dalelands
Bonus Feat|1

Cheers,

There aren't any errors when you load your campaign files, are there? I see a
few weird things, but it could just be me not understanding the code properly.
(I've only been coding in PCGen for a little over a month.)

Well, I figured out what is going on. The FOR loopisn't working for the
attackdamagebonus (and a few others I've created) but the IIF Abilityall
does, so it works in my output sheet now and does get defined.

I would like to add a new combat style to the ranger class. Can I just create a
small abilities lst file and a feats file for the new feats? or do I need to do
an alternate ranger class?

Thanks

This is actually fairly simple to do. :)

For the course of this, I'll assume you're modifying the D&D 3.5 rules, but the
method is the same if you're using Pathfinder or a Homebrew.

If you look in the folder for the 3.5 RSRD, you'll find a file named
"rsrd_abilities_class_base.lst". Open the file, and find the block entry marked
"Ranger Combat Styles". There you'll see the template for Two-Weapon and
Archery.

It should be fairly easy to just copy one of those entries to a new line, and
modify it as necessary. The "VFEAT" tag is what determines what abilities you
get at which level, so that will be the one you probably have to modify the
most.

Oops, missed part of your actual question. No, you don't need to create a whole
new ranger class. You can either modify the Ability and Feat files to fit your
new combat style, or create new Ability and Feat files. But, you would have to
create them as two separate files.

Hello,

I am totally new to PCGen and tried to find my way around in the datafiles
yesterday, which wasn't too successfull :(

I am trying to build a character who has the "Unarmed Fighter" Archetype from
Ultimate Combat (Pathfinder), which should give him proficiency with all "Monk"
Weapons. Unfortunately, the Nine-Section-Whip shows Prof: N, so I get a hefty
penalty when I equip it.

Is this the right place to post errors I have found? If not, where to send them?

Hi,

I prefer bug reports be posted to the main group. This one is for actual
homebrew Coding your own
sources and such.

So, I presume the Nine-Section-Whip is listed as a Monk weapon?

Next, you have an easy choice -
1) I can register the bug in our tracking system
  OR
2) You can register the bug in our tracking system

Choice #2 is our preference as some reports need clarification. The nice thing,
you'll be emailed as
the bug is worked on. If you open the bug you get the distinction of being the
one that closes it
was we say it's fixed (Presuming it works for you).

and in case you were wondering

Hi,

Okay, the monk is not proficient with the weapon cause you need to take Exotic
Weapon Proficiency.

I'm going to bed, so someone else will need to answer any follow ups you .

What you say is true, the monk is not proficient with that weapon, as well as a
rather large list of other "monk" weapons. "Monk" is a special quality of a lot
of weapons, and the Unarmed Fighter is supposed to be proficient with all of
those, not with the same weapons the basic monk gets.

Also I noticed that the UAF doesn't lose the Martial Weapon Proficiency of the
normal Fighter (RAW):

An unarmed fighter is not proficient with medium armor, heavy armor, or shields.
An unarmed fighter is proficient with all monk weapons, including exotic monk
weapons.

Hi Folks!

A preliminary review of the lst file shows that the Unarmed Fighter archetype is
not being granted the Exotic Monk Weapons. We will need to add an Unarmed
Fighter Weapon Proficiencies ability and grant it instead of Monk Weapon
Proficiencies.

I haven't had the chance to look at the core set to see why the relevant Fighter
Proficiencies aren't being removed yet. If someone doesn't beat me too it I'll
tackle that later today.

Hi,

If the file you sent me is the complete fix, there is unfortunately still work
to be done. At least the Exotic Eastern Weapons with the Monk Property
(Nine-Section-Whip, Kama (Double-Chained), Imei Piercer to name just a few) are
still not listed as proficient.

Just checked a little more.
It seems the UAF gets Martial Weapon Proficiency and the Monk's Weapon
Profciency, so all exotic monk weapons which are not on the Monk's list are
missing.
For non-eastern weapons, this is only the Knuckle-Axe, the Eastern List is a lot
longer

Eric sent me a LST file and unfortunately, the exact same problem does still
exist. The Unarmed Fighter gets the same proficiencies as the Monk Class, not
proficiency with the weapons with special ability "Monk".

Weapons I tested with: Knuckle-Axe, Imei Piercer, Nine-Section-Whip, Kama
(Double Chained) in contrast to Kama, Sai

work to be done. At least the Exotic Eastern Weapons with the Monk Property
(Nine-Section-Whip, Kama (Double-Chained), Imei Piercer to name just a few) are
still not listed as proficient.

Subject: New "Skills"-like Category?

Hey all, quick question.

A friend of mine is setting up a version of D&D 3.5 that has split the Skill
system into two categories - one for Skills, and one for Knowledges (i.e., the
difference between having the ability to do something, and having the know-how
to do it correctly).

I was wondering, is there a way to set up a second Tab in the system for
Knowledges, and have it work similarly to Skills? Such that we can set a number
of "Knowledge Points" a class gains per level, and have them be able to rank-up?

I figured I would need to modify the "gameModes" settings, but I don't know what
and where.
