I am unable to uninstall my 7.5 AVG. I went to the control panel and went through the procedure and it reports an error and failure to uninstall. Since the AVG is not active do I have to follow up with an official uninstall before I install AVAST??
Thank you for your help. Fran

It currently works for Windows 95/98 and ME, but that support will end at the end of this year. You may want to start thinking about a replacement computer, but I would wait until computers with Windows 7 (or a free upgrade) are available later this year.

Rob, I found out that I cannot upgrade my windows 98 to the new AVG 8.5. It must be time to buy a new computer or do you have any other suggestions? ???
Thank you,

Fred and other club members,
If you have a previous version of AVG running, it will be uninstalled by the instructions given. If you have an anti-virus from a different company, you will have to uninstall it first.

Hi Rob,I just followed your excellent tip o how to install the 8.5 freeAVG version. I assume
that, as stated the previous version will be uninstalled automatically by the computer. Shouldthis not be valid please let me and possibly other User Group members know.
Thank's & best regards Fred

Folks,
Many people in our group use the Free AVG anti-vius product and are getting a pop-up that says you must upgrade before April 30th. (If you go a day or two past the 30th, it is not a big deal.) The 8.5 upgrade is still free, but many are finding the link to the Free 8.5 hard to find and end up downloading a trial of the paid version or the paid version.
AVG 8.5 IS STILL FREE. You can download it by following this link: http://www.avg. com/filedir/ inst/avg_ free_stf_ en_85_287a1483. exe Save it to your desktop and Run it to install it. (If you have trouble downloading the file, bring a USB flash drive to the next meeting and I will make a copy for you.)
To install the update, click Next, Accept, Accept, click on the button next to Repair Installation, Next,
Uncheck the Toolbar, and click Next.
You may get an error that it can't update. It just means the computer has to be restarted before you can update it. There are other optional tweaks I make, but your computer will be protected.
I will cover the tweaks at our next meeting. Also at the next meeting I will cover "Twitter" and show how to register your own Domain Name, i.e. a dot-com address as preparation for creating our own club blog. I hope you can make it.
