Something that all schools using the Powerschool SIS will be
confronted with is setting up attendance so that it is compatible
with state reporting (SAIS) for AZ. I have not yet devised a way to
correctly input the school's attendance in Powerschool in a format
that would generate correct ADM/ADA by Minute reports. This was so
with version 2067 though, not the current version 2075, which could
mean that the addition of the daily attendance features may solve the
problem. The ADE and RTC have no insight on how to configure PS to
comply with their requirements and the usually knowledgable support
staff did not seem to have a resolution to this attendance dilemma so
I ask of the groups help in this matter. Action must be taken soon
in order for our 40th Day reports to be sent correctly.

I just got word that 10/26/2001 is not a good date for our meeting due
to the 4D developer conference. We are trying to decide on a better
date. It will probably be November 2 or 9. Here is the agenda that will
go out when everything is finalized:
1. Introductions
2. Group Objectives
3. Group Website
4. Member Input
5. How Formal? (Newsletter, Officers, etc)
6. Future Meetings
7. PowerSchool SAIS Interface Presentation
I'll post updated info as soon as it is available.
As far as our meeting goes...do we have an agenda? Is Apple coming?
List of topics?
Vail will be there in force, I'll bring at least 3....but what are we
coming to?
Peace,
Matt

Hello everyone! I am reviewing powerschool and SASIxp from Pearson. I
would like to get some insight as their differences, strengths and
weaknesses. Powerschool has new features, are they really helpful?
I would say that anyone in the group would be a good contact. You may
want to call Andy Parvin who is our PowerSchool Rep. Also, I'd be glad
to talk to you about PowerSchool. Just give me a call.

powerschool.

There is a campus map and driving instructions at:
http://www.asu.edu/map/
The Memorial Union (marked MU) is at the bottom of the map, just above
Parking Structure #1.
We tentatively plan on meeting from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. I'll let you
know if that changes.
Shouldn't that be Friday, October 26?

Sorry about the meeting reminder post. It was automatically generated
by the group calendar. Here's the latest. We changed the date to
October 27th so that the PowerSchool folks could show us some SAIS
functions. The Tempe RTC has found a site for us to meet and will be
sending us directions soon. I'll post more info as I get it.
directions to the event??
who should come?
Should we bring snacks or a couple bucks for munchies?
Is Apple coming? (Did anyone tell Sven or Brad?)
Details, buddy, details?
Peace,
Matt

Hey All!
Anyone done anything with Vocational paperwork and PowerSchool?
Heaven knows it requires enough paperwork to deal with Voc Ed.
Thanks!

scheduled for Friday, October 5, 2001 from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. We don't
have a location yet, but it will probably be in the Phoenix area. I
wanted to give as much advance notice on this as possible, so I will let
you know the details as soon as I find out. Also, we have invited some
staff from PowerSchool to attend and share the afternoon with us.
Here's the agenda:
Introductions
Group Objectives

Future Meetings
Please let me know if you have any ideas for the meeting.

Local reps? How do you get those? Are you talking sales reps? We've had
excellent success with PowerSchool phone support. We always get a live
person and they are usually able to give us an answer on the spot.
As for your attendance question, the answer is probably dependent on how
your state calculates attendance. I don't see why it wouldn't work as
long as you setup the attendance values to match what the state wants.
If you go to School Setup -> Attendance Codes -> Edit Attendance Code,
you could assign 5 points to your absence codes. That way, one absence
would count as 5 absences. You'd just have to make sure they only mark
attendance for one day or they would be getting too many absences. You
should probably check with PowerSchool and your state too make sure that
would work.

Hey, just like to say that I'm glad to see that there's a user group
out there for powerschool, the support we have recieved from our
local powerschool reps here in wisconsin has left some to be desired
but they are good at pointing us in the right direction as to get our
task accomplished. also, many thanks to whoever posted the Spec Ed
screens, I will find them most useful for our district as that is one
of our top issues at the moment.
On to a question I have, and if someone could offer some insight that
has worked with powerschool longer then I have. We have an
alternative school here, and I am wondering if there is a way to
setup attendance so it can be taken once a week, our students there
come and go, so daily attendance will not work very correctly, in
either case the hours would be equal to a full week. If anyone has
some insight on this, please email me, I hope this makes sense,
otherwise I may be able to elaborate further.

Hi,
I am glad to find this list as an additional information source for
PowerSchool. I enjoyed PowerUniversity in Salt Lake City this past July-Aug
and got a lot of good ideas. Met a lot of great people dealing with the
same problems I am as PS administrator.
I am struggling with PowerLunch. We have tried to use it for the first week
and finally think we are imputing info correctly, but the first 3 days we
did a lot of things wrong. Now we are faced with having to go back and
re-input or change the first 3 days data.
Does any one know if it is possible to move the cursor from the "cash
Received" box on the Record Sale window. We do not take cash in the
lunchline and never refuse a kid who comes into the lunchroom. The only
thing we use this window for is to add A LA Carte items such as milk or
juice.
Having this cursor in the cash received box and therefore putting in the
next lunch id if the operator misses that this box has appeared is one of
the problems we are having.
I also need to know where you go to look to find out where the totals on the
Cash Report window . We have additional entries here in addition to the
known deposits.
The PowerSchool techs are great with most everything else, but PowerLunch
support is erratic depending on who you talk to.

Bart, Arizona does have state standards, but PowerSchool has not done
them. When I go to the School Setup Miscellaneous screen, there is no
"enable state standards" option.

Bob, You syould not have to import the Standards. If (I assume they
are) the Arizona standards are done, just go to school setup,
Miscellaneous, and put a check mark in the box "enable state
standards". Then restart your server. They should then be updated for
you.
Hope that helps

Andy, you now have moderator status. We can use all the help we can get!
Some of us have encouraged the PowerSchool folks to support a users
group and they like the idea, but they seem to have other more pressing
priorities. However, they have indicated that they support the user
group concept. As for Apple, they also encourage user groups. I think we
should make the best use of the eGroup concept and see what happens on
other fronts.

I agree, whatever the forum may be.
The one thing to keep in mind is that once Apple has the product
rebranded, they may start their own mailing list (as they do with so
many of their other products)..
How do we encourage them to do this??
Thanks!
Matt
I found this list by accident -- I was planning on starting my own PS
eGroup but did a search first and found this one. That said...
Hey, let's do something with this PowerSchool list, eh? With all the
schools out there buying PS there clearly ought to be a place to
exchange information.
eGroups has a number of cool features that would make this a great,
cheap, easy-to-maintain forum. If I were given Mod rights, I would
have the time right now to spruce the place up and promote it quite a
bit. We PS users need this.
