DIY pano heads are rather easy IF you are using a fixed body with
one lens.

Most of the sophisticated engineering in "proper" panoheads
goes into the various sliding adjustments. Making these
precise and rigid is rather difficult.

Here's my pano head - just an 'L' of wood.

The three numbers required to position the nodal point
are embodied in the position of the pivot
holes.

This was good enough to allow me to take
this shot:

(360 pano, cut in two due to hosting difficulties)

where the subject is easily close enough that parallax
could have been an issue.
