Subject: Peleng 8mm - Reliable source

Hi - relatively new to this group - been reading all that I can on
panos over the last couple months, this group is terrific - thanks to
you all for such fantastic input!

I've got a Canon 350D and, after reading as much as humanly possible
(and doing all the requisite searching), have decided to go forward
with purchasing a Peleng 8mm.

My big questions remaining are:

1) It appears as though there is a single type of Peleng 8mm with a
whole host of different types of mounting adapters... the question -
is there an EOS-specific version of this lens, or do I just need to
make sure I've got the correct EOS adapter?

2) Where do I purchase this thing? I've yet to hear positive remarks
for any internet supplier, or ebay seller (although some have good
ratings)... any specific dealer I could be directed towards?

Thanks in advance,
Blake

Dear Friends,

I recently started delving into HDR photography using the CS2 built in
facility. I have been taking 6 RAW bracketed sets of 3 photos each.
The bracketing was set at -1, 0, +1; then I have converted them
straight from RAW to .tif 16bit photos, without doing any CA or
vigneting.
I am using a Canon350D with a peleng lens. The result has been very
encouraging. Is there a workflow anywhere that show a step by step on
how to do HDR?, I have looked at the wiki but it has been written to
use Photomatix?

kind regards,

Rodrigo

Hi Blake,

I use the Peleng with the Canon 350D, very pleased with it. I bought
mine through Ebay. As I placed the order I stated in it that I
required the Canon mount, it came ready assemble. Haven't had any
problems with it.

kind regards,

thanks! I've noticed that same thing with the focus markings. It's
definitely more complicated than using a CP4500/FC-E8 combo :)

Kievcamera.com has them. Bought mine from them. Specify EOS adapter when
ordering.
Then enjoy! It's really a lot of glass for the price. I've been using the Peleng
on a 350D and recently a 400D
with great results.

hello everyone

I'm having difficulty in stitching a perfect panorama with images
taken using my Nikon E4300 and FC-E8/UR E4 lens.

theres just a teeny weeny misalignment which cannot be corrected.
Could anyone please tell me how to set the lens settings tab of the
PTGui. WOuld the focal length differ when I mount FCE8 with URE4 ring.

I would also like to know the nodal point distance in millimeters for
E4300/FCE8 fish eye lens.( from the camera mount hole to the tripod

Hope im clear.

Set a few control points manually, near the area of misalignment, then
optimize. I've had great results with the same camera and FC-E8 using three
shots.

I find that the point of rotation is directly under the front edge of the FC-E8.
I use a simple bracket atop the tripod which seems to work very well.
The EXIF as I recall is enough info for PTGui to do well, but I have not used
this setup in a while. What version of PTGui do you have?

speaking of the focus markings.....uhmmm....how exactly do those work. My
first stab at it thinks that if you're at f8, and you want a deep dof, you'd
move the focus ring until the infinity mark is aligned with the rightmost f8
marking, leaving the leftmost f8 marking with .3m or so....

Is this correct?

The lens itself has the front side of a T2-adapter where usually as
back side a M42 ring is attached. For EOS you can use any M42->EOS
adapter. Only for cameras with a longer sensor-bayonet distance you
need a special adapter the will screw on the T2 front piece with
three tiny screws.

I bought mine at rugift:

Hi Marlon,

That is the approach that I use, and it has worked just fine for me.
However, here is an interesting take on depth of field recently published on
the Luminous Landscape:

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/Digital%20Focusing.shtml
and part two here:
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/digital%20focusing%202.shtml.

I found part two especially interesting in his rule of thumb for acceptable
sharpness. Definitely worth reading.

Hi Andrey,

I have a couple Kodak filters I bought at B&H a long time ago (80a and
80b, I think). They come in about 10x10cm sheets (don't know why they're
called gel.. they feel exactly like plastic). I cut them to the right
size and could insert them within my Sigma 8mm whenever I wanted.

Yes, almost everything can be done in Photoshop... but still I like to
try to make the light hit the sensor in the closest way I want the
picture to be. For some reason I have the feeling that white balancing a
RAW file is not exactely a lossless thing - I feel that I'm always
losing some info (for example, I remember when I was adjusting a bunch
of pictures I took with 1600 ISO. Well, after the color balancing I had
the clear impression that the grains were always more visible).

So every now and then I use these filters when I'm shooting in an
ambient with too hot lights so I can "take easy" with the white balance
sliders. The filters are really fine. I did some tests on sharpness and
I must confess I couldn't notice any difference at all.

Best regards,

Fabio.

Hello,

I have a beginner question : I would like to use polarizing filter in
some of my panoramas.
In the summer, the amount of light is too important and the color are
not saturated.

Is it possible to use a polarizing filter on a 10.5 Nikon lens ?
Or should a use a normal 12-24 mm lens with a polarizer ?

Thanks
Philippe

What about neutral density filters ?
