Did you by chance resize the image in photoshop while it was still
layered? This would be the culprit. First flatten your image, then
resize. Ah, and did you check it is exactly 2:1 ratio? Not f.e. 8000x3999?

Another cause once happened to me and cost me three days of work: If you
shift-drag images in photoshop and you release the shift key too soon,
the layer will not be placed exactly...

It is a long time since I last worked at PTViewer, but I don't think
that it is possible to add a hotspot at runtime. Hotspots are defined as
parameters in the <applet> tag.

Try changing the initial view when the panorama opens and see if that will make
it go away. I ran into that same problem with QTVRs and it solved the problem
there.

Do you remember the wufdog PTViewer pages? As far as I remember you
could add hotspots dynamically there. Unfortunately they are gone some
years ago. archive.org still has them, but those are not functional:

Yes, now that you write it I remember those pages. They were very good
ones, who knows what happened to that guy...

Anyway, I don't remember if it was possible to add hotspots. It was a
long time ago, in the times when Java looked like the future...

Now Java is the past, and I cannot keep from asking myself if and when
Flash will become the next Java and change from "future" to "past"...

Well,

I already spend an hour on that page and the pages source.
Haven't found anything on adding hotspots by javascript.

Something different:
How to add an hotspot to panosalado 1 by javascript and not from an xml
file?

Thanks,

thats what dpreview say too:

"Sony has released the promised firmware update for its NEX cameras adding 3D
Sweep Panorama mode. This mode separates the left and right edges of the
individual image used for creating panoramic shots. It then uses these slices'
differing perspectives to create a 3D still image that can be played back if you

Here is a link to the project page that I have created:
http://waterbase.uwm.edu/datamap/cams/master.php

It's still a work in progress. Basically it was created for a team of
scientists to monitor beach conditions, in particular with regard to
rain events. [See the date 2010/06/27 for a really good example of what
we are observing.] So it's not perhaps as polished as a page intended
for public consumption, but it works.

As a follow-up to my original post, I played around with autooptimize
and vig_optimize and neither tool seemed to work at all to balance the
exposures. What really worked well in the end was to take the Makefile
generated by hugin and change the following parameter lines:

NONA_OPTS= -e exposure
ENBLEND_OPTS= -f1768x587 --fine-mask -c -l 16

I know, the "-e exposure" is wrong, it's supposed to be some exposure
value. But it works somehow, so I left it in. The end result is probably
90% as good as if I used hugin manually on each set of images. But of
course, with dozens of new image sets generated per day, that's just not
going to happen!

The only thing is that I wish there existed a tool that could
automatically make fine adjustments to the arrangement of the images to
compensate for the slight variations in alignment caused by vibration of
the camera in the wind. But I'm honestly quite happy with how it turned
out as it is.

A number of members may be interested in new features in the latest version of
SPM (StereoPhoto Maker).

It is now possible to automatically align a series of images that are intended
for lenticular prints, autostereoscopic displays, 'bullet-time' movie sequences
or large-scale object-rotation movies.

If there is a common point visible in all images, it is possible to provide a
360 degree rotating view of the subject and if there are a sufficient number of
images, stereo 360 degree object-rotation outdoor movies may be created.

Sample source-image files may be downloaded.

Support is also provided for creating images suitable for lenticular prints.

http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/index.html
http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/help/multiple.htm

(sample04 could take two hours on an 'old' computer .. far faster than trying to
do manually for comfortable stereo viewing !)

Thanks, everybody, for the suggestions...

I didn't resize the image at any point- I set the output from PTGui to 6000
X3000, and kept it that size throughout. I don't think I saved to .tifs or .jpgs
with layers- PS warns you that the file size will be bigger if you do that, so I
always go back and flatten- but I might have missed that.

Picking up on Ned's suggestion, I found a workaround. Since the line was at the
point where the image wrapped, I went back to CC and changed the initial view,
then generated new cube faces. The line appeared in the bottom, back and top
faces, so I cloned it out in each face, and reassembled the equirectangular
image.

Now that the WWP submission is in, I'm going to go back and start from scratch
and see if I can fine out what happened- I'll post the results here.

Again, thanks for the help.

Jpegs don't have layers, so you won't get that warning.

Autoblending can also cause the line.

Adjusting the alignments would work if you compared each image to a baseline
image and corrected the viewpoints only (not ypr).
That would alleviate the per-image wiggling perhaps for awhile while the
images are similar.
You'd need to update your baseline set based on when the windspeeds reach
acceptable levels to optimize against the evolution of the details.

ENBLEND_OPTS= -f1768x587 --fine-mask -c -l 16

Fulvio, could it be we both misunderstood Jan's request? He doesn't want
to add a hotspot dynamically. He wants to define the hotspot in a string
passed to newPano(). The question was, why this hotspot doesn't show
when the new panorama is loaded. From the documentation it should work...

After some fiddling with firebug I found the reason: You simply are
using the wrong hotspot syntax: The string should be
... {hotspot0="q x1500 y750 a1600 b800
u$+javascript:update('pano/000015.jpg')+ n$+Click me+"}

I had the same experience as Erik. I have also had a noticeable difference at
the seam that is created when the two ends of the equirect join in the final
product. That time the problem was caused by filter use on one of the layers.
If you utilize the offset filter in PS, you can see if there will be a problem
with the seams before you convert into flash, java or qtvr file.

Apart from the other suggestions, I've had this occur in the past when
sharpening a cubic (using Ultra-sharpen pro) before converting to the final
equilateral. Now just sharpen, if required, just before making the final output.

Hello Group,

Today the Tour de France started the first etappe from Rotterdam to Brussel
and passed my home in Ouddorp at a distance of less then 500m.
I shot several panos from this major event on a 3 m heigh handheld pole with
a 5D + Tokina10-17@12mm + Nodal Ninja R10 lensring + Seitz VR Drive with
remote control.
Each pano is made from 6 images around and fully batch stitched with PTGui
and Smartblend.
No post processing of the images is done, hence the production was fast and
easy, just as I like it on such a nice and sunny day :-)

If any of you are curious, here's a link to the details on the underwater
pano rig we're using. The results are phenomenal! No noticeable parallax
error.

We've shot several pano's on a local shipwreck, plus at a local quarry.
I'll be uploading them shortly. Shooting is easier and stitching is more
difficult than I expected. PTgui only found 3 control points on one set, and
none at all on the others. Part of the problem is the amount of debris
floating in the water, plus there are some larger objects that bob around
(they are secured, but are able to move.) And everything is pretty monotone.

Rick,

Good to see some underwater panoramas!

I find tripod based pano rigs too cumbersome to use easily underwater & I prefer
monopod based setups.
How much lead weight do you need to steady the rig?
Housed cameras are very easily tipped over by water movement or bumps from the
photographer.

Control points are difficult underwater for the reasons you mentioned, after
some time I've gotten better at pattern recognition manually. I tried Autopano
Pro to more automatically process things but it was a failure & I'm best
manually processing the pano.

Lake shots will look monochrome, you may get more colour from the rusting metal
if you use a grey card for manually setting colour temperature. I have a
laminated grey card that I use for colour balance & exposure setting, as with
many things underwater this only introduces another problem with the appearance
of the water column - it tends to go magenta.
Blending & masking together a natural coloured (as shot) pano with a grey card
corrected pano results in a pleasing image.

With Photoshop I have to double process the raw images to colour balance the
grey card because naturally lit scenes are beyond the range envisaged practical
by Adobe (or any one else).
First pass with Camera Raw & save as 16B tiff, then using Bridge you can open
the tiff file with Camera Raw again to complete colour temperature setting; I
know this is strange but it works.

All the best!

Mal

Hi,

The best stage to sharpen panos is the initial fisheye images, before they are
stitched.

Actually, sharpening cube faces is the next best option.

The worst option is to sharpen the final equirect. when you do, you'll get some
weird stuff at the zenith / nadir. I know it's the easiest way (and i've
sharpened many panos at this stage) but it is not the optimum time to do your
sharpening of panos.

If you must sharpen the final equirect, you could consider not sharpening the
zenith/nadir portions of the image.

For a fisheye converter lens use one of: Nikon fc-e8, Nikon fc-e9 or
IPIX/Soligor.

You can read about them on the FishList --

http://panopticus.altervista.org/fishlist/adapters.htm

Could you let me know how you would attach a fisheye to a g11?
