I shoot panos using NN5, Samyang 8mm and D300. Normally 4 around, 1 90 deg for
Zenith and 2 90 deg down for Nadir (using NN adapter and moving tripod).
Question is, should I pitch lens down or up shooting 4 around?
Still having problems stitching Nadir, but it is getting better.
Thank you!

You only need to worry about coverage, pitching up or down is only to
provide image coverage for your sphere, there is no other pro or con.
If you wish not to shoot a zenith shot and wish your clarity at the zenith,
you would pitch up. This would eliminate the need for a zenith, however it's
generally better to shoot the zenith if possible, or if you have an
automatic pano rotator you use on a pole.
So if I've contracted myself already, there you have it.
BTW, I shoot without a pitch for normal shots.

Opinions are divided on this. Because most of my panoramas are taken
outdoors, where the sky is largely blank, it can be hard to find
control points that link the zenith shot to the trees or roofs on
the horizon, so I usually point slightly up, leaving a hole at the
nadir. The nadir is where the foot of my monopod comes, and it is
also where the Peleng lens I use tends to produce halation. So I am
resigned to taking a zenith shot, which eliminates both the hole
and the halation.

If I shoot precisely horizontally, the Peleng gives me tiny holes at
zenith and nadir that can be easily cloned out. But when there is
halation (and there usually is), it tends to occur at and around
the nadir, so a nadir shot helps. And it looks like a sizable
"smear" that is hard to clone out.

I don't really see the need to take two zenith shots, though.

Remember: if it looks too good to be true it probably isn't. Scams and
swindlers rely on people setting aside all of the red flags that go up
in their mind because they just have-to-have that thing and will do
anything to get it. Don't be fooled.

The Japanese media have been full of an Alibaba scandal recently, in
which an Alibaba executive cooperated with a number of vendors who
use this site to defraud customers. Maybe this site is a part of that
operation?

Initially I wondered if they might be selling bankrupt stock or
remainders... when I checked their Nikon offerings they were
largely for the D300, which has been replaced by the D300s for
some time (at least here in Japana--assume so elsewhere). But
then I saw an iPad for about half price. THAT seems quite
impossible unless the Chinese manufacturer is diverting stuff
from Apple, in which case how could the guarantee and support
work? The hardware is clearly and uniquely identified. Apple
would be bound to recognize this was a pirated product.

Caveat emptor!

The first "this" refers to the entire Alibaba site. The second
"this" refers to the improbable bargain site.

Ahh, this is even better. After my first posting about tbseller.com through
Nabble on PanoToolsNG there is comment spam pending on this thread at Nabble
from 3 new users, Walker056, Amos Perry and yesfokony.

yesfokony writes: "I have buy TBseller.com DELL XPS M1210 LAPTOP

And the tbseller offer "Canon EOS 5D Mark II SLR Camera 24-105 IS 16GB 15PC

with this kit...

Hi Andrey

panotools.info wasn't the official site for quite some years.
I haven't visited this site for a long time so I can't say which
tutorials are deleted. I tried web.archive.org to find the
last version of panotools.info befor deleting:

http://web.archive.org/web/20070929131731re_/panotools.info/

I think you find these tutorials still under panotools.org and
wiki.panotools.org which are the official places to find related
things. Erik Krause is more involved in this and can shed some
light on this.

Best regards

Peter

I wonder how long the cable can be? If it were long enough, then you could
move the recording units far enough away so that they are tiny in the final
output. I'm thinking along the lines of a pole below a helicopter long
enough to make even the helicopter relatively small in the final video.

Oh - to have deep pockets! :o)

lens 142° is probably diagonal @ 1920x1080. At least 4 to cover 360 around and
a 5th to cover the zenith. Similar to the GoPro.
cable 1.5 meters.
No mention if they can be synced.

I am still playing with the gigapixels VRPs of interiors. This time I tried the
interior of a dark church with the bright windows and a "light fall" from the
top (example: http://www.burger.si/Plecnik/Ljubljana_SvFrancisek/vrp.html). The
fresques in the corners were dark and not clearly visible if were observed
insitu –actually only dark corners if looking from the centre of the dome.
That
is why I used the HDR method with the long exposures (-10s, 20s, +30 s) . With
previous tries of interiors I found out that the problem is depth of view and
focusing (example of the small church:
http://www.burger.si/Domzale/Krtina/01.html, F5.7). I solved the focusing with
the help of the laser but the depth of view remained. I set the aperture to F16
(Canon 50 mm 1.4) but now had appeared another problem with the light from the
windows which is quite annoying. Any ideas how to avoid that »light curtain«?
(I
want to use only natural light as flashes or light painting are not allowed). It
is also a gigapix panorama so every retushing is very time consumig.

Long time ago I bought AP. Would it be wise for me to buy PTGui instead of
upgrading to Autopano giga?
Anyone here can give me a comparison between the two programs? Want spend my
money wisely.
Thank you!
