What if he sprayed a white paint on the backside of each strip to make it
opaque?
Wouldn't it be like printing with ink on a white paper?
Or would the positive film require light behind it?

Hello List members,

as of now attachments sent to the PanotoolsNG list are permitted.

No fears: Attachments will not be sent directly to the members. Instead
a link is presented in the email and the web interface and the
attachment is kept on the Yahoo server. Although we have 100GB space
please use this feature responsibly. Don't mess with unnecessary images
etc.

Copyright

Please read carefully the Yahoo terms of service at
-> http://info.yahoo.com/legal/us/yahoo/utos/utos-173.html
Especially read paragraph 9. of the Terms of Service. Don't attach
copyrighted content if you don't accept the conditions.

The stored attachments are kept in Yahoo server Attachments section:

Flash 11 is going to support JPEG XR with supposedly better compression and an extended range.

Has anyone done anything with this format or have any plans on using it?

Thank you, Erik. I read the terms of service but couldn't find how to (or whether one can) delete linked attachments. I would often value group opinions on a panorama but wouldn't want to leave it there taking up space indefinitely. Perhaps this is reserved to list owners or moderators?

To be fair, there are some things that ONLY flash can do.

For example, uploading multiple files, with a progress bar, and showing
thumbnail previews of those files from the local copy (i.e. before it has
uploaded, you show a thumbnail of it)

That is not possible to build in a way that works in all browsers - only in
Flash. (some but not all of this could be built as a java applet - e.g. the
youtube large file uploader)

This is not something "fancy" or "wasteful" but in fact extremely useful.

The other thing of course is viewing gigapixel panos :)

Hello everyone,

I'm really interested in your debate especially because I do utilize flash for several things I can't do with HTML / JS.
But if I could skip it, I'd be happy to.

It seemed to me that at the moment only flash would let me resize a local picture before uploading it to a server, am I wrong?

If I am, I'd be happy to learn how to do that without flash.

Cheers,

Hi Willy.

This is a view from webkit pano.. not HTML5.  Different thing.

iPad is impressive... not really "hated" on my end... you were the first one to get me to see how nice it could be, and for that I am thankful.

Still... I remain stubborn and want it to be able to display my own works... which it isn't allowed to.  That's my only beef with it.

Not entirely. As far as I remember, fullscreen video etc. in the HTML5 spec is
up to the browser vendor to implement how they like. :-(

Sorry but it is not real fullscreen.
That is only available on iPad if you have a browser that supports it. Safari
does not.
It will only be fullscreen if you save the page as a HomeScreen
Also it is not available from an iFrame and to be correct it is also very likely
to crash very often when you use it from a webpage like you can do at
panoramas.dk.

Just for those who experience this here is a tip. Just close down your iPad and
restart.
This usually solves the crash at fullscreen for a couple of weeks.

And at last you can not do real fullscreen panoramas in Safari desktop HTML5.
I know that some browsers may support it for video though.

Ummm .. photoshop? Gimp? Any number of graphics or photo editing apps ... with
full control over the compression quality and file format plus the benefit of
saving a local copy just-in-case.

Ummm ............

I - of course - meant in the browser, as part of a web app...

Do yo mean I should tell the user to first resize all of their pictures in an external app before uploading them on the website?

Imagine a small simple web app to make slideshows (a flash, or a Jquery one wathever), I think the ease of us ofe a small flash resize and upload tool can't compete with gimp or photoshop.
At least for people no so good with using a computer.

Ken, there are plenty of online services and online software packages that still use java as the "multiple upload" solution. Most of the online services are not even "old", so it´s not part of some "olden times legacy" in most cases ;)

Hmm... Although the yahoo page clearly says: "Store on site (exclude
from emails)" Willy`s test attachment shows up as inline attachment
which got downloaded together with the mail.

Yahoo help <http://tinyurl.com/3rtlefm> says: "When a group is set to
store attachments on site, there is one circumstance under which an
attachment will be sent to members via email instead of being stored on
the site: in the event that Yahoo! Groups is having problems storing the
file, it will be sent via email to prevent it from being lost.

If you received an email with an attachment even though your group is
set to store attachments online, this is likely the cause, and the issue
should correct itself soon."

Let's hope they are right...

Why?  Why not?  If Flash can do it, and Flash can do other things for you as well... then why try to avoid it and do things with anything and everything else?  Why use 25 different applications/programs to get your work done, if you can do all of those things perfectly well with ONE program that you know?

I really can't see the logic in that at all.

It's like owning one car to go to the supermarket, another car to pick the kids up from school, a motorbike to go to work on etc. etc. etc. Why not use the same car for all your transports if you have that car?  Of course... if using train systems... one will have to have many different trains that only go to fixed locations... no deviance from the routes at all.  No freedom of movement, except within the confines of a route that has been decided by the "head office"... that is how I see it.

Cheers,
Erwin

Why  should I learn how to use  flash in order to resize a picture??   my   normal way would be using a software  like Photoshop ;-)  this  is  way more obvious.....

Because that way you can use FPP to resize your photos and display your Gigapixels “one day”…

The only thing you can’t do “one day… or ever ” is show your panos on an iphone/ipod/ipad.

:P

Enough will all this garbage.

This debate is pointless and unlikely to give anyone any insights into anything important any time soon.

I meant the original pixel size. However, thanks for the test!

You don't "HAVE TO", did I ever say that????? Were my previous messages so unclear?

Simply, I do use it this way as part of an web app meant to easily create slideshows.

The goal here it to permit anyone with absolutly no computer skills to simply use pictures from his/here camera and crop/resize them in the browser without having to wait minutes for uploading (cheap cameras are often above 10MP now...).

Of course you can use photoshop for it, that's how I or you guys would do it, but if I have to tell users to do so, the interset of this particular app vanishes.

I simply asked if anyone knew how to do that IN the browser prior to upload, just to make sure I didn't miss something interesting.

I'm absolutly not saying YOU should learn flash to resize pictures...

External images apps are of course better suited for that...
