Thnx ... nothing like this is perfect.. but for some it might be useful.. Like I said we do a lot of studio shooting with both version and I hit moire issue with both 800 version.. both stills and video.. I have one coming and we'll see how it all shakes out. Were hoping we get lucky..

It was interesting to see how big an issue the moire is on the D800 in the video, and even more interesting to know that there is a solution to the problem (yes, this is what I would clearly categorize as a serious problem).  The diffrence between the recording without and with the filter, is like day and night.

If the recording was not from D800 or D800e, your post would have been without any value, but I found it interesting and informative, and I appreciate you bringing this here.

I didn't bring this up to cause an issue for anyone.. it was intended as informational.. In typical landscape photography moire would not be an issue with the 800 it occasionally is with the e version primarily in some architectural shots.. For those that do product or fashion the issue pops up quiet a bit more.. and it uneceptable.. Granted, the filter would probably never had been brought to market if it wasn't for video needs. In the right situation it's a tool that might benefit a photographer... just saying... so your shooting style or subject matter gets you off the hook.. that's great.. I have both versions of the 800 and a D4.. All of which are also used for video production also..

As far as dealing with moire in post production.. I'm glad it's so easy for you.. We have to deal with it occasionally also.. It lowers the quality of the result and we typically don't like that.. So if we know we have a real issue we typically make a few changes if possible and retake.. If we can't then we do what your doing.

Anyway , hopefully to close this. Am I to understand that it is improper to post stuff like this on this group? I fully realize that few here could benefit ... but that's more of an individual thing or needs I would think.. At any rate I was recently made aware of the product.. Their selling them so their getting used.. I just remembered all the conversation from back when and thought it might be relative to some one that had an e version they were wrestling with in this area.....Rest assured I'll not offer up anything like this again..

Don't forget the work of Alain Hamblenne, Belgium, who already has developed the anaglyph technique for 3D panoramas about ten years ago !

Hi luca

I have 6 hero3 black edition ready to build a new 360rig... I have not made too much test but..

- the lens is a bit wider than the hero 2
- the new 360rig will use 6 cameras and as the new are smaller it will be setup with their cases...
- I think the lens is better and performs better on low light but not in too low light...
- the most interesting is the ability of sync the cameras with wifi and to use manual WB...

I will show a sample when the rig arrives in a few days

Hi Everybody,

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1996234044/sphericam-the-easy-360o-video-camera

This is my new project. 4 days left if you want to buy a camera, this is your chance to get it cheaper than it will be after the Kickstarter ends.

Please consider contributing (even if it's not the $975 to buy a camera) :-) Every little bit truly helps to get this project off the ground!

cheers :-)

Hello panofriends

I am still looking for a good 360 video hardware,
will be the 2013 the good year for 360 video?

Here some of the more interesting cams.

360 heros (with 6 hero3, launch in early 2013?)
http://www.360heros.com

360 rig (with 6 hero2 / hero3 on development)
http://360rig.com/

Sphericam (near to come out, cheap, but low resolution)

Immersive Media

DEAD PROJECTS (born for 360 video too) ?

Istar  http://www.nctech.co.uk   (website suspended)
Girocam http://www.girocam.com/

NOT FOR SALE (but great)
Making View ViewCam http://makingview.no/makingview.com/

Did I forget some interesting project?
Can you share it?

A QUESTION

360 Video stitching time is actually one of the most critical issue.
However an automatic video stitching software will help a lot.
Do you know something about Kolor KAVA video stitching sofware?
Is it available online?

It is not something you might want to do every day but it is possible. It could
be useful say if you had a rig for gigapans that rotated the DSLR steadily and
fired shots at a constant interval but was not NPP. Or if you wanted to use L/R
slice assembly from an off-axis single camera for stereo panoramas.

eg. Have an accurate (!) intervalometer (I use Pclix) that fires the DSLR say at
0.4 second intervals. Have the Gopro shooting at 30fps say. Have the Gopro
attached and next to the DSLR but in a NPP postion. In a video program you will
see the sound track spikes of the Gopro video corresponding to the DSLR
shutter/mirror noise. Every 12 (0.4*30) frames exactly the spikes will recur. So
if you decimate the video by a factor of 12 starting with the first synced
frames you have video frames that correspond (with a constant offset less than
1/60th second to the DSLR frames. Now if the motion of the rotation is primarily
simple approximately level rotation it means you can calibrate the DSLR frames
accurately with the Gopro frames.

Thanks Thomas.. the real message is that Adobe is abandining support for
it's older versions of software that are not being upgraded... That's the
real message right? For most it's not a big deal.. but their a few older
editions that run some older legacy software that is not available
anymore..That will cause an issue for a few of us.. In the end they will
need to support trhe original liscense agreement without support. if
needed.. but they can't deny a liscense.. I would sue them for that
infringement..

Thanks for the tip, Ayrton
Joergen is working on 360rig V5, for Hero3, I suppose.
I have to wait for this (and I don't know how long).
However I am also waiting for a faster and simpler workflow: Joergen told me
that to create 1 min on 360 video the stitching time is 2 hours (1:120). The new
video stitching software will short these times?

Giorgio,

I got the specs for the Tamaggo last year, the vfov was of 100deg. That's a bit more than half sphere. They claim to use a technology (can't recall now if it's Immervision) that has denser data on the edges of the sensor, to avoid loss of detail. They were supposed to be available since mid 2012, so I also think they are in peril as a business. I wish somebody developed a camera of this type to fly it on my multirotor.

Another company form Canada,
however, despite the website is well made,
camera specifications are poor
(1920 x 1438 at 30 fps. FOV ???)
I am not sure we will se this item working a day...

A client that Pat Swovelin and I had together has requested a few changes to the
existing tour. Pat did all the coding and I never asked how, so I am a true
newbie when trying to make adjustments to an xml.

I decided not to delete the lines of code pertaining to the panoramas from the
xml but rather to just hide them so that if the client decided that the
panoramas needed to be included again, the change wouldn't be too difficult.

Here is what I did: I only wanted to hide one panorama at a time, so that if
something went wrong and the tour didn't load properly I would have an idea
where the problem was taking place. I looked at each xml. I did a keyword
search for the name of the specific panorama that I needed to hide. Every time
I saw lines of code that pertained to that particular panorama, I did <!--
before the code started and then --> at the end of the code. That made it
all invisible. Then I removed the panorama and it's thumbnail from the tour. I
tested the tour and it said loading failed.

Can someone tell me what I did wrong?

Thanks-Stephani

You need to provide a link to the tour. At least then we can figure out what software it was made in.

Sounds like you removed the pano and didn't replace it in the code. If you are just replacing and didn't have a lot hot spots to change you could have replaced the cube faces and preview and name the replacements the exact same name. That way nothing really changes except the actual images.

My intent was to just hide it in the code and remove the .mov and thumb from the tour.  in retrospect, if I just hid it then the code wouldn't be calling on the .mov or the thumb, so maybe I needn't have removed them?\

I haven't even gotten to the one that I have to rename yet.  I was just going on panorama at a time.
