Hey, Let's Pretend There Is Not A Recession...01/13/03
by Mitch Battros (ECTV)

Better yet, let's not. Have you noticed how our government and corporations simply will not admit the fact we are in a recession? Well I have. It is making millions of American's very uncomfortable. That is to say, if we are having a hard time right now, then there must be something wrong with us. Why? Because no one seems to be willing to admit the dire straights we are in. It is the largest mass "shaming" I have ever witnessed.

It goes right to the heart of one of the most common fears..."I'm not enough"! Is it just a coincidence this wave of uncertainty came with the witnessing of how fake and fallible our untouchable 'Supreme Court' in-fact is? Surely you remember the 2001 elections. Millions of us witnessed first hand, our great and mighty, above reproach court system, is really nothing more than a puppet on a string?  And who is controlling the strings? Your favorite corporation, with lobbing powers none of us would have believed or imagined.

Yes, I realize many of you would say it was September 11th 2001, that brought everything down upon us. At first glance, it is much easier to point a finger at something (anything) and say "That's what did it". I would suggest the times we are in goes way beyond that one terrible day. It is more about a regime change, a wave of social, moral, and unchecked rules which have come from the new administration. Whether it is Bush himself, or more likely the old Bush senior regime pulling the strings, we are being controlled in the most stealthfulness of ways.

This method of 'stealth' is really noting new. Large corporations have been using it for sometime. What amazes me, is the fact it is being played out on a national level. I have no doubt George W. Bush will be a one term president. He knew it coming in. This is a strategy used by what use to be called the "hatchet man". This was the person a corporation would hire, to "stealthily" scale down (fire) staff. The purpose would be to set it up for a sale, get rid of the current status que, or simply fracture the company to be absorbed into smaller pieces. The reasons for Bush's purpose is yet to unfold. If I knew what it was, of course I would tell you. Even if I had a suspicion, I would say it. Right now, I just don't know what the agenda really is.

What we see happening is not a surprise, at least not to our ancestors. They spoke of this time thousands of years ago. I hope you were one of the lucky ones who heard my interview with Ian Lungold on "Mayan Prophecy". He was on last Thursday's Earth Changes TV "Radio Hour" via the internet. It was the most listened to show to date. Even with extended bandwidth, we could not hold the hundreds that were tuning in.

I will have this show posted on our "audio/video" archives page by this coming Thursday. When Ian told us what the Mayan calendar said, it was as if he was reading from todays newspaper. One highlight was the emphasis on the "speed" of changing times. It is directly related to our emotional body. Some would say, our spiritual and feeling bodies as well. Ian explained how our brain wants to 'sort things out, to make sense of what is currently going on". The problem is, change is happening so rapidly, many of us are showing signs stress and fatigue. The symptoms could be a high free floating anxiety, meaning generally anxious but not able to attach it to any one specific event. Bouts of depression, moments of rage, headaches, body aches, feeling isolated or detached.

The answer to cope with such symptoms is to begin streamlining your life into easy and less active moments. Of course, prayer, meditation, ceremony, community gatherings, nature walks, pets, fun hobbies, either have more time with people, or depending on your lifestyle, having less time with people. These suggestions are all very helpful. I would also tell yourself what your experiencing right now, is not your imagination. Millions around the world are experiencing the very same symptoms.

As many of you who follow Earth Changes TV, know I give great emphasis of cause to "Magnetics". Yes, our Sun is changing. So is our solar system and universe. It is all part of a very natural cycle the universe, solar system, and Earth have seen many times before. Our ancestors have witnessed such change as well. They often speak of this and try to share their insights hoping we will have a better time of it. Perhaps we are, but sometimes it just doesn't seem like it.

One common denominator ancient text would often tell us is... "make life simple, and know your neighbor". More on this very uncomfortable shifting of times later this week.

A contest for wives. (Cochiti)
At Amatsushe they were living; Old Coyote and Old Coyote Woman lived on
one side of the hill and Old Beaver and Old Beaver Woman lived on the
other. They visited each other every night. One night it was snowing,
deep, and Old Coyote said to his wife, "I shall go to Old Brother Beaver
to invite him to go hunting, and to make plans for exchanging our
wives."
When Coyote got there, he called, "Hello." Beaver answered, "Hello, come
in and sit down." They sat together by the fireplace to smoke. Coyote
said, "I came to tell you we are to go hunting. If we kill any rabbits
we'll bring them to our wives. I'll bring mine to your wife, and you can
bring yours to mine."
"All right," Old Beaver agreed.
"You go first," said Coyote.
"No, you go first. This is your invitation; you invited me," Beaver
insisted.
"All right, I shall go early in the morning." Coyote said to Old Beaver
Woman, "In the morning I am going hunting for you." "All right. I shall
sing the song so that you will kill many rabbits."
Old Beaver Woman started to fix the supper. She wanted it ready for his
return. Old Coyote was gone for the whole day. It was evening, and he
did not come home at all. Sitting near the fireplace, Old Beaver Woman
waited and waited. She started to sing her song: Old Coyote, Old Coyote,
come sleep with me, Come have intercourse with me, Ai-ooai-oo. Old
Beaver said, "What are you singing about? He won't kill anything, for he
isn't any hunter." Coyote killed nothing, and Beaver Woman waited and
waited but Coyote never came.
Next day it was Old Beaver's turn to go hunting. He went to tell Old
Coyote Woman that she must wait for him, for he was going to hunt
rabbits for her. "All right," she said. And he killed so many that he
could hardly carry them. In the morning Beaver came into Coyote's house
and said, "Old Coyote Woman, here are the rabbits." She took them and
said, "Thank you, thank you, Old Man Beaver." They went straight into
the inner room, and Old Man Coyote was left by himself in the front
room. He was very angry. They gave him his supper, and when he had
finished, they went in to bed. Old Man Beaver started to have
intercourse with Old Coyote Woman. Old Coyote Woman cried out, and Old
Coyote called out, "Old Beaver, don't hurt my wife."
Old Coyote Woman answered, "Shut up, Old Man Coyote! It's because I like
it that I'm crying out."
When he had finished, Old Man Beaver came out. He said to Old Coyote,
"We won't keep bad feelings against each other; this was your plan. I
shall always wait for you at my house whenever you want to visit me."
And they were as good neighbors as ever.     - Recorded by Ruth
Benedict in 1931.

The Logan Massacre. (1774)
The frontier is bloody with violence. Vigilante mobs roam the
countryside. The Cayuga leader Logan has sworn off bloodshed. He
participated in neither the French and Indian War nor Pontiac's
alliance. Now, as hostilities continue to defile the peace, Logan
removes his people out of harm's way to a secluded spot along Yellow
Creek.
Screams shatter the silence. Logan, away hunting, cannot hear them. He
cannot hear a tomahawk slice through the belly of his pregnant sister,
or the groan of his family as they die slowly along Yellow Creek. Logan,
away hunting, is alone.
"In the spring of 1774, a robbery and murder occurred in some of the
white settlements on the Ohio, which were charged to the Indians,
through perhaps not justly, for it is well known that a large number of
civilized adventurers were traversing the frontiers at this time, who
sometimes disguised themselves as Indians, and who thought little more
of killing one of that people than shooting a buffalo."

- Benjamin Thatcher, United States.
"I appeal to any white man to say, if ever he entered Logan's cabin
hungry, and he gave him not meat; if ever he came cold and naked, and he
clothed him not. During the course of the last long and bloody war,
Logan remained idle in his cabin, an advocate for peace. Such was my
love for the whites, that my countrymen pointed as they passed, and
said, "Logan is the friend of white men." I had even thought to have
lived with you but for the injuries of one man. Colonel Cresap, the last
spring, in cold blood and unprovoked, murdered all the relations of
Logan, not even sparing my women and children. There runs not a drop of
my blood in the veins of any living creature. This called on me for
revenge. I have sought it: I have killed many: I have fully glutted my
vengeance. For my country, I rejoice at the beams of peace. But do not
harbor a thought that mine is the joy of fear. Logan never felt fear. He
will not turn on his heel to save his life. Who is there to mourn for
Logan? - Not one."

- Tahgahjute (Logan), Cayuga.

Sacred Pipe.  (Cherokee)
Long ago, but not long after the world was new, a tribe of red skinned
people came to live on the lands which are around The Blue Smoke
Mountains.
At this time, the animals of the world still talked to men and taught
them how to live on and care for the land. These people were called
"Ani Yun Wiya " or the One True People. In this tribe lived a brave
warrior woman. She was called 'Arrow Woman'. Arrow Woman was taught to
use the bow, the spear and the knife. Even though it was a man's job to
hunt and fight, Arrow Woman could shoot straighter with the bow than any
man, she could throw the knife so as split a branch no bigger than your
thumb and she could throw the spear into eye of a hawk in flight.
Because of all this, no man would tell her to be like a woman.
One day while on a hunt, Arrow Woman came upon the tracks of Yona the
bear. She saw blood on the ground and knew him to be wounded so she
followed his tracks. High into the mountains she followed. Soon she came
to a place that she did not know. It was in this place, a place known
only to the animals that she finally saw Yona the bear. He had a deep
cut in his side and she saw him bowing down in prayer. She saw him
bowing toward a large field of tall grass and speaking words that she
had not heard before. Suddenly, the grass shimmered and became a lake.
Arrow Woman saw Yona dive into the water. After a time he emerged from
the water, his side was completely healed. Yona then saw Arrow Woman and
walked to her. Yona told her, "This is the sacred lake of the animals.
It is called, 'Atagahi' and it's location is known only to the animals.
It is where we come for healing and strength. You are the first man
creature to see the sacred lake. You must never tell your kind of it's
location for it is the home of 'The Great Uktena' ". With these words
Yona the Bear turned and walked into the woods and disappeared.
Arrow Woman was tired after following Yona all day so she decided to
rest a while by this lake. She built a small fire and sat down to eat a
meal that she had brought with her. She took a drink of the water from
the lake and felt instantly refreshed. She was amazed, she felt strong
as Yan'si the Buffalo. She felt as if she run faster than Coga the Raven
could fly.
The woods were quiet, Unole the wind was sleeping, Nvda the sun was
shining bright but was not hot, the surface of the lake was completely
calm, Arrow Woman began to get sleepy. It was at this time that she saw
'Uktena', she had been told of him when she was a child but no one in
her tribe ever claimed to have seen him. High above the water he raised
his great serpent's head, the jewel in his forehead glistening. He began
to move toward her. Arrow Woman grabbed up her spear and stood up to
face the great creature coming to her, standing proud, showing no fear,
the way any warrior should. She raised her spear and prepared to strike
the huge beast.
Uktena stopped a short distance from her. He smiled, his mouth was
larger than a man was tall and full of teeth longer than man's forearm.
He spoke to the brave woman on the bank of his lake. To her he said,
"Put down your weapons for I mean you no harm. I come only to teach."
Arrow Woman laid down her spear and began to relax, somehow knowing
Uktena spoke truly.
Uktena told her to sit and to listen. Uktena dipped his head below the
surface and came back up a moment later. In his mouth he had a strangely
crooked stick and a leather pouch. These things he laid on the ground in
front of Arrow Woman. Then the Great Uktena began to teach. He said,
"This that I have laid before you is the Sacred Pipe of The Creator." He
then told her to pick up the pipe. "The bowl is of the same red clay The
Creator used to make your kind. The red clay is Woman kind and is from
the Earth. Just as a woman bears the children and brings forth life, the
bowl bears the sacred tobacco (tsula) and brings forth smoke. The stem
is Man. Rigid and strong the stem is from the plant kingdom and like a
man it supports the bowl just as man supports his family." Uktena then
showed Arrow Woman how to join the bowl to the stem saying, " Just as a
man and a woman remain separate until joined in marriage so too are the
bowl and stem separate. Never to be joined unless the pipe is used."
Uktena then showed her how place the sacred tsula into the pipe and with
an ember from the fire lit the tsula so it burned slightly. He told her
this, "The smoke is the breath of The Creator, When you draw the smoke
into your body, you will be cleansed and made whole.  When the smoke
leaves your mouth, it will rise to The Creator. Your prayers, your
dreams, your hopes and desires will be taken to Him in the smoke. Also
the truth in your soul will be shown to Him when you smoke the pipe. If
you are not true, do not smoke the pipe. If your spirit is bad and you
seek to deceive, do not smoke the pipe." Uktena continued his lesson
well into the night teaching Arrow Woman all of the prayers used with
the pipe and all of the reasons for using the pipe. He finished just as
the moon was beginning her nightly journey across the sky in search of
her true love. He told Arrow Woman to wrap the pipe in cloth, keeping
the parts separate. With this done He told her that she would never
again be able to find this place but to remember all that she had
learned. Uktena then returned to depths of the lake. Arrow Woman saw the
water shimmer and become again the field of grass. She left, taking with
her the pipe and her lessons and a wondrous tale.
Ever since that time, The Ani Yun Wiya have used the sacred pipe and
never again has any man seen the sacred lake of Uktena.  The pipe is
not a symbol of things that are sacred. The pipe itself is sacred. Not
everyone is called upon to be a pipe bearer. The person who carries the
pipe and practices the pipe ceremonies and traditions has a great
responsibility to his brothers and sisters, his land and country and
even to the Earth Mother. The pipe bearer does not 'own' the pipe he
carries. He simply carries the pipe until the time comes for him to pass
it to the next bearer. The pipe bearer is given certain powers of sight
from the pipe as well as an ability to heal and purify. Should the
bearer fall from grace and become a liar or thief or become deceitful,
the pipe would repossess these gifts and then the possibility of
misfortune for the former bearer may exist.
One should be ready to accept the responsibility of the pipe for it may
make demands upon you. It will become your teacher and guide. It can
also be your worst enemy if used wrongly. I leave it to you to decide if
these words are truly said. This is the way that I have learned. See you
on the medicine path.

Cherokee Prophecy.
http://www.gaiatribe.com/rain/rain.html
Long ago, even before the time of the Christ, a Cherokee prophecy
foretold the plight of the Native American peoples and the world we now
live in. However, our ancient story is in sharp contrast to those of
western religious traditions: It is a prediction of the possibility of
peace and harmony, here and now. For centuries, this story has been
handed down through the inner circle of the Medicine People. The time
has come to share it.
This is what my Grandmother told me:
My grandmother told me, and her grandmother told it before her, that
long ago, long even before the Europeans discovered Turtle Island and
Her People, the elders warned us of The Monster with the White Eyes.
Those Who Speak to the Spirits told us that the Monster with the White
Eyes would come from across the great Eastern water. Its power would be
evil and terrifying, and it would create a destruction so thorough that
the spirits of the animals, and even the trees, would begin to die.
The Mother Earth Herself would be devastated, and Her heartbeat would
become very faint. This Monster would devour the children of Turtle
Island tribe by tribe, and none would escape. Most of those who survived
would be like the dead, their spirits lost to them, and they would exist
without connection to the memories of their ancestors. Few would remain
to keep the Truth alive.  One day things would get so bad that the
Mother Earth would begin to sing the Death Song. When this happens, they
said, some of the children of the peoples who followed the White-Eyed
Monster to our lands will realize that they face annihilation at the
hands of their fathers, and they will be forced to look into their
hearts. When they do this, many will find that the Spirits of the
children of our Tribes have been reborn there and have been waiting to
guide them.  Then, they told us, those few who were the keepers of the
Truth would emerge. Together we will become strong enough to overcome
the power of the Monster and restore the Mother Earth to health, and the
children of the Tribes of Turtle Island will lead the way back to a sane
way of life. After this, all of the races will live as one Tribe in
peace and harmony. The spirits of the animals and the trees will return
when they will know that they are safe once again. The Monster with the
White Eyes will be no more.
This is what my grandmother told me, and now I have told it to you.

'THINK on THESE THINGS'
by Joyce Sequichie Hifler
Bad feelings are burdens. When we get to the point of believing the
whole world is sour because we don't understand it, we have a lot of
self-searching to do. Maybe we helped it to lose its sweetness. Maybe
we're the bad apple that soured the whole lot.
Our first thought should be to make amends. Sometimes we can't, and when
such is the case we need to get out of the way and let time and nature
take its course.
Life is too beautiful to go on being a bitter pill that insists that
everyone swallow it. As in the words of Caleb C. Colton, an English
clergyman around the turn of the century, "the man who has so little
knowledge of human nature as to seek happiness by changing anything but
his own dispositions, will waste his life in fruitless efforts, and
multiply the grief which he proposes to remove."
We need to unburden ourselves by forgetting our problems and doing
something that will put a smile on someone else's face.
The quickest way to solve the problem of hurt feelings is to inquire if
this situation is important to the whole of existence. Does this
particular thing mean more than any of the other things of life? It is
amazing how quickly trials fade into nothingness when faced with this
question. It places before us the need to decide here and now the
meaning of our whole existence.
There are not many things in our lives that we can truthfully say mean
everything to us. The small things are important and ver dear, but the
really significant things we count on one hand - life, our loved ones,
our good desires, our faith, and our nation.
One of the most magnified situations in this day is taking life too
seriously. In the stress of too much mental confusion, we seem unable to
laugh off so many little irritations. We let personality rule us into
making each little problem the source of great anxiety and dramatically
lay hold of it until it chokes us.
The worthwhile side of this life is too important to let ourselves
become involved with things that mean little to us. Too much of the
trouble in the world is caused from ego-building important that would
never be missed in anyone's existence.

January 13 - Daily Feast
If we are not happy, it is because no one has given us permission to be.
The hardships and stresses of those who went before us make us wonder if
we have a right to do better. Do we have permission to outlive, outdo,
outwork all those who went before us? Have we given our children
permission to be stronger, better, and more intelligent than we are? The
Cherokees have a word for it, adahenhdi, meaning the gift. Or have we
told them to adhere to their roots instead of respecting them? Have we
made them caretakers, or have we set them free to be strong builders on
firm foundations? Permission is hard to come by when we wait and wait
for someone to tell us we have done well, that we have earned the right
to be mature, respected adults. No, we give ourselves permission to
grow, to live long and well, to prosper and be in good health.
~ I can tell my children that the way to get honor is to go to work and
be good men and women. ~

Elder's Meditation of the Day - January 13
"When you remove love and try to replace it with monetary things, you've
got nothing ... get him to understand that he has to love himself before
he can love anything else."
--John Peters (Slow Turtle), WAMPANOAG
It is said, "Love thy neighbor as thyself." That's the trouble, most of
us do.
Great Spirit,
You are love;
You are spirit.
Spirit and love
are interconnected.
I am spiritual.
Let me realize
what I am
really made of.

Selu (Corn Mother) and the Deer
The story of Selu the Corn Mother and the Deer as the Animal
representative of her are told to help us learn and personalize many of
the facts in the sharings of her stories. Give and take is the principle
point that it all comes to. The perfect balance and harmony. We need to
see the generosity in the stories of the Deer and Selu. We need to be
aware of the manner of man and how we continue to try and avoid this
principal. Our generation is put to the task of dealing with all the
generations of greed and insensitivity that man has evolved to.
The story of Selu and the Deer help us as a people to keep our
perspectives clear on the matter. Giving back is the natural order of
balance; to consciously know that it works and must be maintained and no
one is exempt from the principle.
The old ones tell us that in the First World, Selu came with us into the
Circle of Life. And as we began to move away from the Balance and
Harmony of Life, we did not know her. In the last world, Selu lived with
her two Grandsons in the Mountains. She was old and very wise. She sang
and made the world around her very beautiful. One day, Selu watched her
grandsons preparing to hunt. She thought of the days long ago when Man
and the Creatures of the Forest all spoke a common language and
understood each other. There was respect for all Life. It was a world of
peace and happiness. There was abundance and respect. All was
appreciated. Man sat in the Circle of Wisdom Keepers and was honored and
loved by all. It was a good time in the Earth Mother for all Creation.
Man began to have greed. The balance was lost. She remembered the Great
Council of the last world where the animals had determined not to allow
man to kill them all off as his hunting game. That his relentless hunger
was a threat to their cycles of life. Man over-hunted and killed too
many Relations in the food chain. Many, such as the Deer, put forth a
punishment to all who would eat their flesh. And this was the first
disease of man. And thus came Nuwati, medicine.
Selu remembered how terrible it was for the animals in the forest when
they could smell man and knew he had come to kill them. Selu's heart was
heavy, It was a long time ago, she thought. It is time to begin again
and seek the harmony and regain the balance. Man needs to return to the
Wisdom Fires Above. Man needs to be honorable. Creator combined all the
Creations into Mankind. Man holds all the patterns of principles within
his body, mind and spirit. Selu saw how the Great Spirit had given man
all the gifts and how man had lost them with all his greed. Selu saw her
grandsons loading up the weapons for the kill. She knew there was more
than enough food in their home to feed everyone. Hope leapt forth in her
heart as she had an idea. She went to her grandson and spoke, "You are
going out today?" The oldest replied, "Yes, we prepare to hunt." Selu
said, "We have so much already. Let me cook you a wonderful dinner!"
The younger grandson answered, "No, we must hunt. We are hunters. We
will bring you many Wild Turkeys."
Selu tried again, "But we have many Turkeys already and I will make you
Corn and you will feel full and not have the need to hunt." The
grandsons continued to get ready to hunt. "We will be back by evening
and you will see, we will bring you fresh meat." Selu wished them well
and asked them to respect all, and show appreciation to the animals. The
grandsons laughed and went into the forest. Selu cooked and made a meal
that tempted all who had senses to smell and eat. She sang and blessed
the meal with her love. She waited.
Soon her grandsons came into the clearing around their home. They had
smelled the wonderful meal for miles and were happy to see it came from
their home. Selu was happy to see them, and as she put the feast upon
the table, she saw they had killed a boar pig. They ate and could not
say enough about how delicious the meal was and how good it was to have
the corn stuffing and spices, with the Turkeys. Again she said to them,
"See, we have so much to eat, we do not need to kill the animals." They
said they were tired and needed to sleep, so they could get up early and
be out before the deer. Selu listened and she asked them again
how they liked the food she had made. They told her they loved the food
and never had they eaten so much and tasted anything as good as the
corn.
They asked her where she had gotten the corn, and she did not answer.
She was happy they loved the meal and was planning the feast for the
next day. She sang as the night moved over the lands, "Soo Looo, Sooo
Looooo, Soooo Loooooo, Sai." Her grandsons dreamed of bread made of corn
and honey.
The next morning, very early, they were up and went for their weapons.
She watched. She went to them again and said, "We have so much left from
yesterday, and a fresh boar from the hunt also, we have so much. Do you
really have to go hunting?" "Yes," they said, "we are hunters. Today we
will bring you a big deer." Selu looked at her grandsons. She loved them
very much and she knew they loved her also. She would try again. They
went to hunt and she cooked. The meal was even more wonderful than the
day before. The smells went throughout the forest. Everyone knew Selu
was cooking a feast. Her grandsons smelled the sweetness of corn while
they were hunting. They remembered the taste, and that they had never
tasted anything that good ever before. Selu was smiling. As evening
came, the grandsons came home with their kill. It was a fine deer. They
were very good hunters, the kill had been quick and the deer did not
suffer. For this, Selu appreciated the skill of her grandsons. They
followed the wonderful smells of corn and sat down to a feast like none
ever before. They could not tell Selu how much they loved the food,
because there were not enough words to describe it all. So they gave her
the deer as their token of gratitude. She knew it was an honorable act
to them. She thanked them and took the deer. After dark, she returned it
to the forest. All were happy. Selu sang her song as the Men drifted
into dreams of laughter and play. In the dreams, they saw their
grandmother as a beautiful young woman, more beautiful then any they had
seen. She sang throughout the night. They awakened early and felt so
good. They felt strong and youthful again. They were laughing and felt
playful as they were when children. The Sun came up in glorious colors.
As they prepared to hunt, they realized
they were not in such a hurry to go to the forest and hunt. They asked
Selu to make them breakfast, and she did. Fried corn mush and sweet
honey. As they ate, it tasted so good they ate more than they needed and
were so full, they needed to nap. They noticed that Selu looked younger,
and was so happy, she sang and sang. The Sun was high by the time they
were ready to go hunt.
As they were leaving, Selu asked them not to go, "We have so much food
now, more than we will ever be able to eat. I will feed you. I can cook
everyday and you can do many things to help," "No", they said, "We must
go hunt, we are hunters. Today we will hunt Turkeys." Selu watched as
they left to go hunt and called out after them to remember to appreciate
the animals. She was happy and began to prepare the meal for today.
While out on the hunt, the youngest brother said to the older one, where
does Selu get this corn that she is cooking? Do you know where it comes
from?"
The older brother said he didn't and that it did not matter to him. It
was delicious and Selu would only feed them what was good, that was what
he knew.
All that day, the young man thought about the corn. As evening came,
they returned home with the wild turkeys, the smells of the feast
drawing them home. They were eager to sit down and again eat the
delicious corn of Selu's feast. They told her how much they loved how
she prepared their meal and how beautiful she was and how happy the home
was because of her beauty and grace. She beamed as a light and they were
in awe of her. She sang to them and they drifted into wonderful dreams
and a sleep as peaceful as ever they could remember. They dreamed of
happy days and abundance for everyone. The world was more beautiful than
ever. They heard the animals speak and they heard the wingeds singing
and they felt in right relation to all life. The dreams were of heaven.
They
awakened to the soft humming of Selu as she prepared the breakfast, of
grits and butter, with sweet maple syrup. Selu looked even younger and
happier than yesterday. The younger grandson was very curious and kept
asking Selu where she got the corn.
She would smile and say, "I make the corn, it is my gift to my
Grandchildren. Another time she answered, "I am the corn." He was not
satisfied and he began to annoy the older brother with his questions.
"Let us go hunt and stop all these questions now. She told you she makes
the corn and that is enough for me. It is good and I love it."
Selu beamed her heart upon her oldest Grandson and he felt her love. It
gave peace to have her in his home.
The younger brother was not satisfied. He said, " Yes, it is good, and
yes, I have never had anything better, but I want to know where it comes
from, and I will find out."
Off they went to hunt and Selu sang as she cleaned and cared for the
home and land. She gave appreciation for all the relations and sang to
them all.
While the men were hunting, the younger brother kept insisting that they
needed to know where she gets the corn. The older brother ask him why
and he said he just must know.
"Are we not happier than ever before? Can you ask for more? Just be
thankful and happy she has given this to us, and how fortunate we are to
have her."
The young man could not accept this, and said I will go watch and see
where she goes and gets this corn. He left the older brother and sneaked
back home to spy on Selu. He watched her take a huge basket and
go to the root cellar. There he watched her through a small hole as she
stood in the basket and slapped her sides. Each time she slapped her
sides, corn would fall into the basket. She continued until her basket
was filled to the top. He was terrified and ran to find his brother in
the forest hunting. Selu gave some of the corn pollen to the bees for
honey and to the Earth for some tasty roots and herbs and salad greens.
She fed corn pollen to the birds for singing as she worked and was
generous to all the relations. Everyone was happy and the world was a
beautiful place. She cooked for her Grandsons and sang of beauty and
happiness.
The Grandson ran back to the older brother and said what he saw and that
the corn was Selu's body. The older brother was heavy in his heart.
And he said to his brother, "If what you say is true, then it is an
unsavory thing we do. We cannot eat our Grandmother. How is this that
she can make her body turn to corn? This is strange and unsafe and not
of this world. Something is not good here and I cannot understand this
thing. We must be careful, something has taken our Grandmother." It grew
dark and they started home. The smell was so tempting and they
could feel their stomachs ache for the corn. They heard music all around
their lands and Selu singing. Their hearts were in pain as they knew
they feared her for all she was.
At dinner, she heaped up their plates with all the delicious things of
the lands and watched as they picked at it and ate little or nothing.
She grew sad as she watched and realized they knew what they could not
live with and know. The knowledge was too much for them and it had
destroyed the balance between them and the world. Selu asked them, "Do
you not love me? Have I not given you all of myself? Have you not felt
the peace and happiness in my life with you? What would you ask of me?"
As she spoke, Selu grew very old and became very ill and her life began
to leave her body. The Earth grew cold and all was silent. A long night
fell upon the forest and the Grandsons cried for what had happened. The
youngest was unhappy for his loss and asked for forgiveness. Selu asked
them to come to her side and listen well. "I have much to tell you," she
said, "and we have but a little time now as I am. I am as old as the
soil, and first man. I am the Corn. I was given to you as your
substances and as Abundance, Happiness, Health and Peace. I Am Selu, I
Am the Corn Mother." She told them to take her form when she passed over
to pure Spirit, place it in the soil, and make a circle around it. "I
will return to you in a cycle as a plant, that grows tall and strong. I
will have golden hair at the top, and I will have ears of golden seeds
at my sides that will also have hair. When it turns brown, you will pick
it, and peel back its sweet leaves and dry the seeds. There will be
seven ears of the corn. Do not eat them, use all of them as seeds. When
the spring comes, make mounds as the woman in her birthing place, and
make a planting stick as your own seed planter is shaped and insert
it into the mounds you cultivate and place two seeds in each hole. Go to
the Old River Man and ask his children the fish, to come and bring the
Water Spirits to the land, so the corn can grow. Place a fish in each
hole and add the seeds. This corn you will not eat. You will use as
offerings and seeds for the sacred ways of the Land and Waters." Selu
told them many things to make Life good again. She told them when to
plant and how to speak and hear the Moon. She told them to sing and
dance and what the Ancients had given us. She told them she loved them
and that they were to keep well and safe. She was given to show us how
to keep the joy of life and to maintain the balance. The wisdom was much
and the Grandsons were happy that Selu was their Grandmother and that
her love lived in all things. When she passed to Spirit to wait for her
return, they would not hunt unless they were nearly starving and they
did as she had instructed. They became wise. When the Spring came after
Selu had passed, the youngest brother went for a wife. When he came
home, his wife was given the Wisdom of Selu, and she had memory of the
Old One's Ways and they planted and harvested
the corn as was given them and happiness was with their children. Selu
says to us to come home and open to the Wisdoms of the First World.

Daughter of the sun. (Cherokee)
Many Indian legends depict the sun as a male being who impregnates
mortal women. The Cherokees are one of three tribes who view the sun as
female, as has been said already.
In this classic tale with an Orpheus theme, the sun is an old woman with
a grown daughter and human emotions.
**
The sun lived on the other side of the sky vault, but her daughter lived
in the middle of the sky, directly above the earth. Every day as the sun
was climbing along the sky arch to the west, she used to stop at her
daughter's house for dinner. Now, the sun hated the people of this
earth, because they never looked straight at her without squinting. She
said to her brother, the moon, "My grandchildren are ugly; they screw up
their faces whenever they see me."
But the moon said, "I like my younger brothers; I think they're
handsome." This was because they always smiled pleasantly at his mild
glow in the night sky. The sun was jealous of the moon's popularity and
decided to kill the people.
Every day when she got near her daughter's house, she sent down such a
sultry heat that fever broke out and people died by the hundreds. When
everyone had lost some friend and it seemed as if no one would be
spared, the humans went for help to the Little Men. These men, who were
friendly spirits, said that the only way the people could save
themselves was to kill the sun. The Little Men made medicine to change
two humans into snakes - the spreading adder and the copperhead - who
could hide near the daughter's door and bite the old sun.
The snakes went up to the sky and lay in wait until the sun arrived for
dinner. But when the spreading adder was about to spring, her bright
light blinded him and he could only spit out yellow slime, as he does to
this day when he tries to bite. The sun called him a nasty thing and
went into the house, and the copperhead was so discouraged that he
crawled off without trying to do anything. The people, still dying from
the terrible heat, went a second time to the Little Men for help. Again
the Little Men made medicine and changed one man into the great Uktena,
the water monster, and another into a rattlesnake. As before, the
serpents had instructions to kill the old sun when she stopped at her
daughter's house. Uktena was large and fierce, with horns on his head,
(the Sioux "Unktehi"??? - Red Sox) and everyone thought he would be sure
to succeed. But the rattlesnake was so eager that he raced ahead and
coiled up just outside the house. When the sun's daughter opened the
door to look for her mother, he struck and she fell dead in the doorway.
Forgetting to wait for the old sun, he went back to the people, and
Uktena was so angry at the rattlesnale's stupidity that he went back
too. Since then we pray to the rattlesnake and don't kill him, because
he wishes people well and never tries to bite if we don't disturb him.
But Uktena grew angrier and more dangerous all the time. He became so
venomous that if he even looked at a man, the man's whole family would
die.
Eventually the people held a council and decided that he was just too
dangerous, so they sent him to Galun'lati, the end of the world, where
he still is.
When the sun found her daughter dead, she shut herself up in the house
and grieved. Now the people were no longer dying from the heat, but they
lived in darkness. Once more they sought help from the Little Men, who
said that in order to coax the sun out, they must bring her daughter
back from Tsusgina'i. This is the ghost country, which lies in
Usunhi'yi, the Darkening Land in the west. The people chose seven men to
make the journey. The Little Men told the seven to take a box, and told
each man to carry a sourwood rod a handbreadth long. When they got to
Tsusgina'i, the Little Men explained, they would find all the ghosts at
a dance. They should stand outside the circle, and when the sun's
daughter danced past them, they must strike her with the rods and she
would fall to the ground. Then they could put her in the box and bring
her back to her mother. But they must not open the box, even a crack,
until they arrived home.
The seven men took the rods and the box and traveled west for seven days
until they came to the Darkening Land. There they found a great crowd of
ghosts having a dance, just as if they were alive. The sun's daughter
was in the outside circle. As she danced past them, one of the seven men
struck her with his rod. As she swung around a second time, another
touched her with his rod, and then another and another, until at the
seventh round she fell out of the ring. The men put her into the box and
closed the lid, and the other ghosts never seemed to notice what had
happened.
The seven took up the box and started home toward the east. In a while
the girl came to life again and begged to be let out, but the party went
on without answering. Soon she called again and said she was hungry, but
they did not reply. When at last the group was very near home, the
daughter of the sun cried out that she was smothering and begged them to
raise the lid just a little. Now they were afraid that she was really
dying, so they barely cracked the lid to give her air. There was a
fluttering sound, and something flew past them into the bushes. Then
they heard a redbird cry, "Kwish! Kwish! Kwish!" Shutting the lid, they
went on again. But when they arrived at the settlements and opened the
box, it was empty. So we know that the redbird is the daughter of the
sun. And if the party had kept the box closed, as the Little Men told
them to, they could have brought her home safely, and today we would be
able to recover our friends from the Ghost Country. Because the seven
opened the box, however, we can never bring back people who die.
The sun had been hopeful when the party had started off for the
Darkening Land, but when they came back without her daughter, she wept
until her tears caused a great flood. Fearing that the world would be
drowned, the people held another council and decided to send their
handsomest young men and women to amuse the sun and stop her crying.
This group danced before her and sang their best songs, but for a long
time she kept her face bowed and paid no attention. At last when the
drummer suddenly changed the song, she looked up and was so pleased at
the sight of the beautiful young people that she forgot her grief and
smiled.

Cherokee Marriage Ceremony.
A priest escorts the groom to one end of the open space in the council
house.
Another priest escorts the bride to the opposite end. The couple meet in
the centre of the council house, near the sacred fire.
The priest stands facing to the east - toward the door of the council
house.
The groom's mother stands beside the groom. She holds his gifts of
venison and a blanket (sometimes corn bean bread was also offered).
The brides brother stands beside the mother. The brother, by his
presence, accepts his role in being responsible for his sister and her
children. The bride and groom wear blue blankets representing their old
life and ways.
The officiating priest says a prayer blessing the sacred fire and the
union of the two.
As he prays he asks for a long and happy life for the couple. The bride
gives the groom a red and black belt that she has made herself, and he
puts it on.
The mothers give the gifts to their children who exchange gifts with
each other.
They join together their blankets symbolizing their mutual support
within the marriage.
They each drink a corn drink from a double-sided wedding vase.
They drink from east to west, then from north to south giving their
blessing to all the earth.
The vase is thrown down and broken to seal their wedding vows as now
being united as one.
The broken fragments are returned to mother earth. A winter blanket is
placed around their shoulders symbolizing their union.
A wedding feast is held by the entire town. The couple walk silently and
alone to their dwelling place among the clan of the bride's mother.

"It is said that a long, long time ago there was a "priest" caste
within the Cherokee society. They were called "kutani". They supposedly
lived in "anisgayayi" - Men's Town. They had the function of overseeing
the ceremonies, to keep the Ani Yvwiya in balance on the "middle world".
But they abused their role and were overthrown.   If this legend is
true, it was long before white contact. Mooney has written of this, as
has Robert Conley."

Coming This Thursday on Earth Changes TV "Radio Hour"...01/15/03
by Mitch Battros (ECTV)

In response to several request, I am signing up a list of wonderful and knowledgeable people, who have turned their attention to what appears to be unfolding in the way of personal challenge. Some would describe our time as 'the period of transition'. I would have to say almost every ancient text civilization had in fact written about the time of our generation. It seems all of our ancestors speak with one voice in telling us 'in this time, you will be confronted with yourself'.

The Maya describe it as a time of truth, a time of inner conflict, a time of revealing (or revelation), a time to purge'. Edgar Cayce said "this is the year of disclosure". Many believe the Gregorian calendar is three years long, meaning this would be the true millennium.

Earth Changes TV "Radio Hour" Every Thursday from 7 PM - 8 PM (Pacific Time)

My guest will be Toni Sar'h Petrinovich, author of "The Call - Awakening the Angelic Human". You can read some of Toni's articles on the ECTV "Science & Spirit" page: http://www.earthchangestv.com/Science_Spirit/index2000.htm

"There are many paths to the truth. An individual's truth is relative to him or her. Each path leads each person to self-rediscovery or as it is sometimes called "Self-Actualization". To actualize is to make real, not potential. A Self-Actualized person has recognized (rediscovered) the potential within his or herself and made it real.

No one is ever really lost. He or she has only taken a tributary off the river of the original dream and need but a correction in the current to rediscover the original intention and channel into which the river flows. Self-actualization supplies the soft current that allows the client to enter the river that will carry him or her on a journey of peace, joy and truth. The journey, itself, is "all ways" the goal."   http://www.sacredspaceswa.com/counseli.htm

Solar Weather Update:

The Sun is beginning to stir. The sunspot count hit 229 on Monday. Today it is at 176. Now, take a look at January 13th's photo of something that may have hit the Sun: http://science.nasa.gov/spaceweather/images2003/13jan03/eruption_big.gif

This is what Nasa had to say about the January 13th event. "SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) spotted this
explosive plume rising above the Sun's northeastern limb at 1319 UT on Jan. 13th. (The explosion itself was the size of 100 Earth's.) The blast was not Earth-directed, however. Whatever caused the explosion remains hidden behind the Sun's limb, although the source might rotate into view during the days ahead. (see equation)

'THINK on THESE THINGS'
by Joyce Sequichie Hifler
Do you remember the interesting story of the lion and the mouse in
Aesop's Fable's? The lion could have crushed the mouse but was merciful
and let it go free. A year later the lion became entangled and the mouse
nibbled its way through the net to set it free.
It is a dangerous thing to wade through other people's feelings, burning
our bridges and believing we will never need them again. The saddest
persons on earth must be those who find they have tried to destroy the
only one who can help them.
The smallest and seemingly most insignificant has a purpose in this
world, and it isn't for us to judge what that purpose is. We have enough
to do in finding our own.
As in the fable, we must remember, "Few are so small or weak, I
guess....but may assist us in distress....nor shall we ever....if we're
wise....the meanest of the least despise."

January 15 - Daily Feast
Feeling drained and weak in the knees is not so much a physical problem
as an emotional one. Too much pressure drains away strength and we feel
we are going to pieces. Inertia and lightheadedness may be the result of
having to face something that seems beyond any power to overcome. But
these will dissolve when met with strong words of strength and faith. As
soon as strength takes hold and begins to flow again, we know we have
struck down something so wily and subtle that it was both real and
imaginary. But nothing has power against strong words, "I will seek that
which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will
bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick."
And then we can ride the waves of our emotions like a canoe and not get
upset among the waves.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - January 15
It's all spirit and it's all connected."
--Grandfather William Commanda, ALGONQUIN
If everything is connected, we cannot disconnect. To disconnect is not a
real choice. This is why we are always spiritual no matter what we do.
Every alcoholic is spiritual. All our brothers and sisters are
spiritual. We may not be behaving correctly, but nevertheless, we are
spiritual. Our choice is to live out of harmony with spiritual ways or
in harmony with spiritual ways. Everything is spiritual.
Great Spirit,
give me the
knowledge to
be in
harmony
with the
spirit today.

'THINK on THESE THINGS'
by Joyce Sequichie Hifler
Regret is something everyone has, but no one can afford to keep. Being
remorseful is commendable when we should be sorry for wrong behavior,
but to live with regret is to add to it day by day. There are those who
are unable to admit they have ever been wrong. But there are more who
carry with them so much regret they are bowed in spirit.
Thomas Moore, the Irish poet, once said, "Remorse is beholding heaven
and feeling hell," but perhaps just knowing heaven can exist makes
regret more hellish. And so often it renders the regretful almost
powerless to lift themselves out of their predicament.
But there is forgiveness! A daily vow or affirmation can take us a step
further in lifting ourselves above the things that cause regret. And if
we've settled down in the middle of unhappiness to enjoy our lot in
life, then, moment by moment, inch by inch, we shall overcome that, too!

Rules are made to keep us safe and honest and well-organized - but many
of them become more important than the purpose for which they were
written. We have a tendency to make rules only to fall under the power
of them. If rules and laws are made and have governed us for any length
of time, it is generally though that there can be no exceptions - even
to the point of being ridiculous. When a rule becomes so binding that it
will not allow common sense and honest action to help the people do the
right thing, it is time to make a change. Rules are made to help us do
our best, or i da tli ni gv si, in Cherokee. Rules are made to serve
human beings - not human beings made to serve the rules. We need the
rules, but wisdom as well.

"If people are going to get back into balance, one of the things they
have to do is seek the truth. They have to start really speaking the
truth themselves, and that's a difficult thing to do. The way it is now
in the world, we don't mind lying."
--John Peters (Slow Turtle), WAMPANOAG
Well everybody's doing it. Do unto others before they do unto you. If it
wasn't for back luck I would have no luck at all. These are excuses and
rationalizations for giving up accountability. Be true to yourself. Seek
the truth, The Great Spirit is the truth. The truth shall set you free.
This is the truth. We cannot be free if we are dishonest nor can we live
a balanced life if we are dishonest. As we grow, we need to start taking
stands. All warriors take stands. The warrior's belief is constantly
being aligned to truth. The warrior will always know where he/she
stands.

Grandmother Spider steals the sun.  (Cherokee) In the beginning there
was only blackness, and nobody could see anything. People kept bumping
into each other and groping blindly. They said: "What this world needs
is light." Fox said he knew some people on the other side of the world
who had plenty of light, but they were too greedy to share it with
others. Possum said he would be glad to steal a little of it. "I have a
bushy tail," he said. "I can hide the light inside all that fur." Then
he set out for the other side of the world.
There he found the sun hanging in a tree and lighting everything up. He
sneaked over to the sun, picked out a tiny piece of light, and stuffed
it into his tail. But the light was hot and burned all the fur off. The
people discovered his theft and took back the light, and ever since,
Possum's tail has been bald.
"Let me try," said Buzzard. "I know better than to hide a piece of
stolen light in my tail. "I'll put it on my head." He flew to the other
side of the world and, diving straight into the sun, seized it in his
claws. He put it on his head, but it burned his head feathers off. The
people grabbed the sun away from him, and ever since that time Buzzard's
head has remained bald.
Then Grandmother Spider said, "Let me try!" First she made a
thick-walled pot out of clay. Next she spun a web reaching all the way
to the other side of the world. She was so small that none of the people
there noticed her coming. Quickly Grandmother Spider snatched up the
sun, put it in the bowl of clay, and scrambled back home along one of
the strands of her web. Now her side of the world had light, and
everyone rejoiced. Spider Woman brought not only the sun to the
Cherokee, but fire with it. And besides that, she taught the Cherokee
people the art of pottery making.

Swarm of Earthquakes Off Oregon Coast Threatens Volcanic Eruption...01/17/03
by Mitch Battros (ECTV)

During the last two days, a swarm of earthquakes as large as 6.3 have hit just off the Oregon Coast. There has been at least 15 quakes since the first which began Thursday around 3 PM (Pacific). More are expected.

While "live" on the air last night during the Earth Changes TV "Radio Hour", seven minutes into the broadcast, a new 3.4 quake hit in Wyoming. Remember, Yellowstone Park is the remains of one of the largest volcanoes the Earth has every seen. It has been reported the effects of this volcano was equivalent to a 5 mile diameter asteroid hitting the Earth. It was truly a 'species changing event'.

As a result of this fast breaking news, and the very real potential threat to the Cascade Volcanic Range, I am presenting a special edition show "live" tonight with Jim Berkland - Geologist. Jim has been on the show several times demonstrating his keen awareness of how these things cycle. Jim Berkland is a retired USGS Geologist, but I also classify him as a studied Seismologist as well. His method and accuracy of predicting earthquakes has caught the attention of scientist and enthusiast from around the world.

Jim Berland has just issued a warning regards to a threat of eruption to Mt. Hood. See below Berkland's release.

Dear Mitch,
As you know, I am also concerned about the unusual swarm of quakes that is continuing on the ridge off the Oregon coast.  At
least three have exceeded 5.0M, with one of 6.2M, one of the strongest in the world over the past two months.  (There have been no major 7+M quakes since Nov.) This means we have a time-gap for major events, and thus have some catching up to do to reach an average of 14-15 such events each year.

Also, Plate Tectonics does not allow us to consider large quakes in isolation, as there is often a connection between
Ridge-Trench-Volcano activity. For the Oregon swarm I feel that Mt. Hood is "under the gun", and I will be watching closely for future developments, especially with the "Wolf Moon" on January 18th.      (Jim Berkland)

Join us tonight "live" on this special edition of Earth Changes TV "Radio Hour". Remember, bandwidth is limited, to a few hundred. So it will be first come first serve. I will make the link available 30 minutes prior to showtime to allow you a better chance of log-in on. But remember, the show itself will not begin until 7 PM (Pacific). You will be able to here music until showtime.

On tonight's show, I will also be exploring the unexpected explosion on the Sun. It is now know as the "January Event". This "event" occurred late Monday night January 13th 2003. I believe it is no coincidence the sudden swarm of earthquakes occurred within the 72 hour equation scenario. (see equation)

Photo of Solar Explosion: http://science.nasa.gov/spaceweather/images2003/13jan03/eruption_big.gif

Here is a direct quote from Nasa implying something unknown slammed into the Sun.

"SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) spotted this explosive plume rising above the Sun's northeastern limb at 1319 UT on Jan. 13th. (The explosion itself was the size of 100 Earth's.) The blast was not Earth-directed. Whatever caused the explosion remains hidden behind the Sun's limb, although the source might rotate into view during the days ahead. (see equation)

Equation:
Sunspots => Solar Flares => Magnetic Field Shift => Shifting Ocean and Jet Stream Currents => Extreme
Weather and Human Disruption  (mitch battros)

Comet's hit the Sun all the time. For those of you who monitor the SOHO satellite, may see as many as five comet's a week hitting the Sun. But, the size of this event, as some would suggest, could have been a minor planet. Perhaps we will learn more tonight.

It has been said that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. But it is
even truer that there is no hell more furious than those humans beings
who feel scorn within themselves for themselves. It is natural but
painful for those who do not know the meaning of love to find fault and
grief within their own existence. Unable to accept the blame for their
actions, there is a continual search for the cause in other people.
How can we tell what point in life others may have reached in their
development? We can only see and sense the pain that some carry while
they learn the way. If it is impossible to get along with them, we
should get along without them, but condemning them will never turn the
tide.
Understanding of others and of ourselves has been a great human need for
all time. The fact that we do not look with a critical eye, pecking away
in constant irritation at another's faults, but give some sign of
friendliness, some patience for rebellious spirits, may serve as the
turning point for that spirit. And to try for such understanding does no
harm for the one who makes the effort.

A certain amount of protection from the wind makes it pleasant to walk
in the deep woods, even in January - Uno lv ta na. It is quieter and
without the activity of other seasons, but the deer come daily to feed
on acorns that litter the moss covered earth. Timing is important, even
though the Cherokee has been said to have a time of his own - arriving
and leaving as he see fit. But even nature gets ahead of herself or lags
behind at times. here in the dead of winter, a shaft of sunlight brings
out tiny moth-like insects that dance straight up and down, going
nowhere. Doing the right thing at the right time is all-important. We
tend to get overanxious and want to push ahead when it is not the time
nor the right thing to do. We are not programmed by nature but by
Spirit, and from that comes the wisdom to stay or act.

about silence. All warriors know about the power of silence. All Elders
know about stillness. Be still and know God. Meditation is about the

'THINK on THESE THINGS'
by Joyce Sequichie Hifler
"Though we speak with the tongues of men and angels and give our bodies
to be burned, if we are irritable or hard to live with, it all accounts
for nothing," wrote Margaret Widdemer.
Wouldn't it be a blessing to ourselves and to others if we could be as
gentle and considerate in temper as we expect others to be? It is not a
good thing to keep pent up then emotions that rules us so continually,
but neither is it good to be too quick and too constantly blowing off
steam.
It may serve as a tension reliever to us, but it can soon ruin our
relationships with others. And without our realizing it, we can soon
become chronic complainers.
Worry, physical ailments and weariness can cause a short temper that we
think others should understand. And most have a way of knowing if that
is the case, but prolonged impositions on other people will wear that
tolerance very thin. It takes two to have an argument, but it takes only
one to start it.
The need to forgive and to be forgiven should never be overlooked. To
pass over a disagreement quickly without thought to the damage we've
done can take the shine off any friendship. There can be no merit in
forgetting if we cannot first forgive.
There are two voices in this world that will be forever unpopular. One
is the voice of self-pity, the other is the voice that yells all the
time. One declares itself to be the victim of great injustices, the
other yells to demand justice.
Those who believe themselves to be the victim of injustice - those who
believe they are meant to suffer - will always find conditions to prove
they are right.
And those who yell, "Look what I've sacrificed," and always with the
theme, "What I've tried to do for you," have slowed another's progress
and stopped their own.
True victims of circumstance are easily recognized, and do not care to
be noticed as such. And those who yell their merits have received their
rewards, so there aren't any others.
Both have their attentions turned inward, but to the sorrow of most....
their voices are not.

We have to actively resist the suggestion that something is going to
make us sick. It is not easy to talk illness and poverty without
believing strongly that we may have to deal with them. The easiest way
is to cancel negative suggestions and claim what we want. Money, which
is a de la in Cherokee, will run for cover if we continually talk
friendship - and we know what happens when someone tells us we do not
look well. We being to take our pulse and wonder whether we should lie
down. Too much sympathy and self-pity destroys our immunity to
difficulty. When we shut down on it and begin to talk health and begin
to talk about excellent opportunities, then we open the way to be well
and prosperous.

--Willaru Huayta, QUECHUA NATION, PERU
It is difficult to look inside ourselves, especially when we see
conflict or confusion. During times of conflict we need to realize that
we are talking to ourselves about our thoughts. This conversation is
printing in our subconscious and forming our beliefs. During times of
conflict we need to ask the spirit to control our self-talk. Only
thorough finding that inner place and going there during troubled times
will we ever find happiness.

Earthquake Measuring 7.5 mag. Hits Solomon Island's...01/20/03
by Mitch Battros (ECTV)

Earthquake activity remains high since last week. A new 7.5 earthquake hit the Solomon Islands early this morning. At first a tsunami warning was issued, then was later canceled.

Jim Berkland - USGS Geologist who was on the ECTV "Radio Hour" last Thursday predicted this quake while "live" on the air. Our interview will be posted on the ECTV 'audio/video' page later this week. In addition, Berkland predicted the swarm of earthquakes would continue off the Oregon Coast. As of 8 AM (Pacific), five more quakes have occurred with the largest measuring 4.2 magnitude.

Solar activity has remained relatively moderate. Today's sunspot count is 168. This number would usually be considered high, but with the long recent history of much higher sunspot counts, it is now considered moderate. Remember, Nasa's prediction for the "maximum" peak or "apex" was recorded to be only 150. So today's sunspot count according to Nasa, would be considered high.

When factoring in the sunspot regions, I would say there is a less than 20% chance M-Class flares will occur. However, I do expect the earthquake activity to continue for the next five days.

Tonight On Earth Changes TV

Robert Egan a.k.a. Nostrabobus will be my guest. Robert is one of the most sought after scholars on Nostradamus predictions. I will be asking Robert what he has found in what is called Nostradamus 'Quatrains' related to war, George Bush, Osama bin Laden, Asteroid/Comet hits, social unrest.

You can read Nostrabobus predictions and commentary on our
ECTV "predictions" page. http://www.earthchangestv.com/predict/nostrabobus.htm

I have received quite a few letters and emails from people expressing their feelings of anxiousness and with many a feeling of foreboding.

On Thursdays ECTV "Radio Hour"

My guest will be Howard Middleton Jones. He is the author of Giza-Genesis The Best Kept Secrets". Who actually built the Pyramids of the Giza Plateau & why? Are the mythological figures of ancient Egypt actually the same characters represented in
certain books of the Old Testament? How did we evolve on this planet? Where were we before earth? Some of the most startling revelations ever imparted to the history of humankind. We will explore these questions and current events.

'THINK on THESE THINGS'
by Joyce Sequichie Hifler
True forgiveness could be described as a divine amnesty where we receive
a pardon from the unworthy things we've done, and have another chance to
prove our worth. Forgiveness is something we must give in order to
receive. And we have a tendency to linger over old grudges, using them
to bolster our reasons for not forgiving. But we cannot return to the
past, nor can we change one whit of anything that happened then. We
cannot make up for resentments we've caused in others, no more than they
can make up for ours.
To forgive is divine. God is above punishment, but we are not. It is we,
not God, who punish by taking things into our own hands and making them
work for our own selfish reasons. We demand punishment by hanging on to
painful past experiences that produce self-pity. We are the ones who
blame God's will for our illness, our poverty, our lack of friends. But
we are wrong, for there is a moment of truth when we face ourselves and
know that we are the guilty.
And there is a time such as William Wordsworth wrote about, "that
blessed mood, in which the burden of the mystery, in which they heavy
and weary weight of all this unintelligible world, is
lightened"....because we've been forgiven.

When we rely on other people for what we need to know, we are vulnerable
to their mistakes. What others give us may be sincere and it may be
genuine, but all information is a matter of how we read it. What one
person says with one meaning may reach the ear of another with a
different understanding. Wisdom comes from the same source regardless of
where we hear it, but it is better to take words of wisdom and work them
through our own minds for direction and understanding. When someone else
has answers that seem to apply to our questions, we can be open and
teachable, but not gullible. It stands to reason if we tune our ears to
answers within ourselves, we won't have to lean on outer sources for
information.

The key to growing a strong tree is to have a good system of roots and
to feed the roots with good medicine. If we put poison in the root
system, it will affect the tree, and it will become obvious to the rest
of the forest what is being fed to the roots. This is also true of the
human being. We need to feed our roots with right thinking. If our
thinking is right, it will become obvious to the rest of the people. We
don't need to tell people about ourselves with our mouth because our
actions always tell them.

Today's sunspot count is at 184. It continues to rise. There are two massive coronal holes at about dead center. Geomagnetic flux is very active. Watch for "freak storms" to develop. I expect high winds with possible speeds up 300 mph. I expect weather forecast to announce "tornado like winds" to develop. This will actually be severe wind shears as a result of the jet stream currents being pushed down from 29,000 feet to 1,000 feet. (see equation)

Breaking: This just in...M-Class flare has just registered. Also, two CME's (coronal mass ejections) have erupted simultaneously. One to the northeast, one to the northwest.

Equation:
Sunspots => Solar Flares => Magnetic Field Shift => Shifting Ocean and Jet Stream Currents => Extreme
Weather and Human Disruption (mitch battros)

I am also watching the 'winds of war'. It is quite possible we will see increased activity in the Middle East or Korea. I would expect this to occur within the 72 hour window. There could also be a risk on the home front. Watch for news release of heightened alert to terrorist threats.

As my outcome study continues showing a connection between solar activity, mostly in the way of geo-magnetic storms, often referred to as "charged particles", and its effect on human behavior. I am expecting a noticeable increase in acts of violence, depression, confusion, disorientation, or a feeling of free floating anxiety.

For those of you who may consider the Sun-Earth connection and its effect on humans to be that of existentialism, this article is a must read. It was just released last week. It shows the scientific background and factual case studies of what was once called something of the metaphysical world.

Join us this Thursday on the Earth Changes TV "Radio Hour". The show will begin at 7 PM (pacific). I will open the link at 6:30 PM to give you the best chance of logging on. Our audience has doubled each week and I keep expanding our bandwidth. I hope one day I will be able to allow thousands to tune in at one time.

This Thursday's guest is Howard Middleton Jones coming to you "live" all the way from England. We will continue to keep you advised discussing current breaking events and what our ancestors had to say. These are indeed fascinating times. Yes, a bit scary, but somehow I find comfort in knowing we are in a very natural cycle the Earth has seen many times before.

Update: Colima Earthquake Raised to 7.8 Magnitude...01/21/03
by Mitch Battros (ECTV)

I have just received notice tonight's Colima EQ has been raised from 7.3 to 7.8 mag. Reports from Mexico City are starting to come in. There was general panic with residents running into the streets. Reports are coming in stating the power has been cut off in parts of the Mexican capital.

There were no immediate reports of injuries after the earthquake struck at about 2000 local time (0200 GMT) on Tuesday, lasting several minutes.

I will try and have Jim Berkland - USGS Geologist (retired) on this Thursday show  along with our main speaker Howard Middleton Jones. I will ask Jim to give us a 15 minute update at the beginning of the show.
