Greetings!
The four attached pictures are of a soft marble or hard limestone biconvex object that, at least cursorily, resembles a spindle whorl or perhaps a Middle Missouri chunkee stone. The researcher working with this artifact, Linea Sandstrom, does not think that it is the right shape for a chunkee stone as they are usually biconcave. Wear patterns seem are consistent with the chunkee stone interpretation. It weighs about 85 grams and was found amongst other stone tools amidst a debitage scatter in a cattle pasture in northwestern South Dakota. If anyone has come across anything similar in their own research or seen anything like before, please contact Linea Sundstrom at linea.sundstrom@.... Thanks!
