Hello 850 fans,

My Photosmart 850 has some issues and I am selling as-is, non-working. The lens
extend/retract isn't working properly and the focus is very flaky. Comes
complete in original box with everything that came with it. In addition to the
original 16 MB SD memory card is a 256 MB SanDisk memory card.

http://ventura.craigslist.org/pho/1221996717.html

Also selling my original HP padded leather carrying case made specifically for
the 850/945 model.

http://ventura.craigslist.org/pho/1221986377.html

And finally my Photosmart 8881 dock/station is for sale.

http://ventura.craigslist.org/pho/1221980536.html

First $40 takes all.

Best regards,

Jay in Camarillo, CA

If he really is only showing your shot on the website, then I think I'd
allow it. It might get seen by someone who would pay you for it....

It is a great shot, and just shows what can be done with 'obsolete' kit!

Here's my contribution to the 'old camera' archive (with less than 1
megapixel, unretouched):

I'm interested in using one of your photos on an "adventure trading
card" on my website www.adventuretradingclub.com. A "card" is a
digital
image with a adventure title, description of the adventure, and a cool
picture in the center. These "cards" may be viewed by thousands of
people and we do sell hard copies of the cards to people who have
completed the related adventure. I can't compensate you but I can give

Useful stuff Steve, thank you!

I wonder how many original contributors to this thread (the ones
whose cameras weren't broken, at least) are still using them? Mine is
parked by the kitchen window to catch any unusual wildlife that
appears in the garden, but I do still take it out from time to time.
There's still no substitute for a decent zoom...

Hi there,

I just "googled" a little bit about my good old Photosmart 850 because
a friend of mine told about his old Pentax Camera wich he upgraded
with a new Firmware.
So i googled a bit around and read some postings about some firmware
hacks and if they are possible.
Problem is... all these posts are old and they suddenly ended with no
further explanation.
So my question is, is there something like a firmware hack for the
goog old 850?

Well, last year I have decided to get a new camera although I was
very happy with HP850 except some largely discussed issues that moved
me to this decision as speed, reliability, bugs, abilities, manual
controls etc.

I didn't have the guts to go to SLR so I kept with prosumer big zoom
camera. I got a Panasonic Lumix FZ-50 and I am very sattisfied. 10MP,
12x, HC-SD, manual zoom and focus, lots of controls, Leica optics,
card capacity limited HD 16:9 video, RAW and much more. But I miss
the automatic eye-piece starter of HP850 )-:

I've got it for 450 euros one year ago. Now and in USA maybe it can
be found much cheeper.

So, I could use the old SD cards from the HP. Battery is LiIon and is
MUCH lighter, smaller and durable than the NiMH. Practically no need
to charge during the day (over 400 shots). But I bought a new SD of
SanDisk - the Ultra model which has a USB plug. Astonishing 10 MB/s
speed to the computer combined with the versatility to use it for
anything and to anything. Now I put some music on it and plug it to
my FM transmitting MP3 player in the car and there is still enough
space to shoot with the camera. It is a little bit more expensive but
it is worthy.

I bought also a Ultraviolet filter. I am not sure about the effect of
it, but as a lense protector it is perfect. As you can not change the
lense that's a good decision. If something happen - just change the
filter for less then 10 euros. I bought as well a circular
polarization filter and was amazed of the effect it produced when
eliminating glare from water, skin etc., making the colors intensed
and discovering the sky and clouds. I have Hama relatively cheap (40
euro) one which I screw on the Ulraviolet one.

I gave my old HP850 to a friend and he is still using it. The camera
made so far over 10 000 photos with very good quality. I guess that
12bit D/A and fine optics combined with relative small resolution
made it so successfull although faulty and without support. At its
time it supered some of "real" photo brands. A full nice 850 review
you can find at:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/hp850/

The site is very good and I have lerned a lot about digital
photografy although I got a lot just from experience.

Two years ago I had to repaired my 850 by "disasemble-
touchpushcleaneverithing-assemble" method as it was making very
strange flame-like pictures. I guess I have to post some pictures for
you guys to enjoy them ;-)

I have to admit that I have received it as a present from a HP
dealer. I guess it was returned camera as one pixel of the LCD was
burned out and was always green, but it served me extensevely for 4
years all around the world. I had the kit as well and was travelling
with 3 sets of batteries, small tripod and several SD cards - all in
the original HP bag.

So that's all...

I am curious which is going to be the successor of FZ50 as Panasonic
started updating their products. FZ50 model is quite good and maybe
they don't see a reason (and there is not) just to increase the
resolution.

BTW there is a new one FZ18 with 18x zoom!!!

Greetings to all,
Bo

I'm glad you're maintaining the HP850 Group.  About two years ago, when my camera was unfixable for less than $450 quoted from the mfr, I was desolate.  But a replacement for $100 has been fantastic and the photos I get with the HP850 are stunning.  I love this camera -- I guess it's the lens that makes such great photos.  I have a nice Minolta for easy toting, but if I want great pix I turn to my 850.  It's nice to have some like-minded folks online.  btw: I notice that my replacement 850 doesn't have that SD Card glitch like my first one did -- that glitch where an error message states the memory card can't be found, which requires simply to pull the SD Card out and re-insert it ...    Best wishes to all for many satisfying occasions recorded by your 850.   D*Gray

I think he means 'accu' being short for accumulator, an old word for
battery, but commonly used for labelling in Europe.

Any contact spray should do a similar job, but it assumes that the
contacts are not working properly, so worth inspecting with a bright
light first. If leaking batteries have corroded the contacts, then
they need to be scraped clean first! If problems persist, try finding
a suitable 6V adaptor.

I am having a problem with my HP 850. I have new batteries and when I
put them in correctly all I get is the red light in the front
blinking. Then when I try to turn the camera on the LCD screen just
blinks white. What is wrong with it? How can I get the camera to stop
doing that?

Thanks
Pete

Dear All,

I have found a great offer for building an online gallery with "your
own" domain name.

You can get your domain name like "artwolfe.com" from
ComboDomains.com for just $1.99/year with your purchase of a ready-
made online gallery with only $2.69/month.

Get this offer from: http://gallery.combodomains.com

The main features are:

- Store and manage photos and images in one place.

- Improve your photos with easy-to-use photo editing features.

-Share your photos with anyone – without requiring them to provide an
email address or log in.

-Keep sensitive photos or images private with password-protected
galleries.

- Purchase high-quality prints directly from the photo gallery –
available to you and your visitors. They offer also 10 FREE 4x6
prints.

- Custom photo slideshows to entertain your visitors.

- RSS Feeds

- Choose from 70 themes for your photo galleries.

- Create a custom photo badge with your choice of layout, color and
more and use the HTML code provided to show your photos on other Web
sites.

Again you can get this offer at: http://gallery.combodomains.com

We deserve a domain name and a professional website to show off our
art, and not to use addresses with more than 100 characters long
without even our name.
