Nice to hear from you ... and thanks for the URL's. I knew a Hastings
but his first name was Randy, no relation,I suppose.Did they get into
any kind of definition as to what consciousness is, in your meeting?

They use this kind of gear in ghost hunting, so why not use them in a
manteum. My guess is that they have been used. Please let me know what
your experience is when you try them.

I went to a 2 day FFF conference entitled "Proof of an Afterlife"  in
San Francisco last January and had the pleasure of meeting Arthur
Hastings, PhD. An esteemed faculty member at the Institute of
Transpersonal Psychology, author, and consciousness researcher, Arthur
Hastings, PhD, has developed a modern day psychomanteum that has proven
to be a highly effective approach to healing bereavement. He will
present the results of his data and the experiences of those who have
spent time in this chamber.

I am fascinated by this research and the manteum, but have not been
able to try it out yet. I live near Cleveland, OH....college town of

Hi Delta
You asked about hypnosis. Simple. Just go to your local Yellow Pages and
and call, asking if they do Metaphysical Hypnosis. Some actually
specialize in it. Or look at the website of the National Guilf of
Hypnotists and they can give you the names of perhaps several people in
your neigborhood that would like to help.

You asked some very good questions and as a guy who has been into
metaphysics for a while I would like to take a stab at answering them.

The answer to the 'noise' situation is both yes and no. One can
actually train the mind to ignore it or, better still, to allow it to
help you go into and stay in the desired state. Hypnosis/self-
hypnosis or good training in meditation, relaxation techniques and
even guided visualization can be of benefit. A little white or pink
sound can be helpful, too, as well as Baroque music. My personal
preference is to just have it as quiet as reasonably possible.

In answer to the 'right time' question the answer is again yes and
no.
For those with a strong leaning toward magick and astrology, yes.
There are tables that can be consulted that give the days and times
when certain metaphysical work would be more in line with your
intentions. I have used them and they do seem to work. On the other
hand, I have done work without them and have had good results. My
feeling about this is that intention is the strongest motivator.

Hi Delta
You addressed your posting to Phil but used my message. I've done the
same thing over the years but, in case you wanted my input, here it
is. Phil will likely message you, too(?). At any rate, I don't have
all that much experience with building a manteum or using one, for
that mater. I have read a lot of stuff about it on the web. There is
an article in this group toward the beginning of the postings. But, I
haven't read all of them yet. And, of course, you want to see Moody's
books. Astral Projection is neat. I have tried some of the tapes out
of the Monroe Institute. It's pretty cool, but you do (or at least I)
have to practice to get results. That's where hypnosis comes in
handy. Go to a hypnotist and ask to have a Post Hypnotic Suggestion
installed.It can get you into 'state' very quickly. But, if you are
the patient sort it isn't absolutely essential. I'm talking about all
kinds of psychic phenomena here and not just mantic work.
Some time ago there were a couple of people actually selling
prefabbed manteums.

My limited experience is that these things do work but it pays to go
slowly.

Hi Everybody and Hi Philip
I've been interested in this work for quite a while but am just now
getting back to it. I live near Philly and am a hypnotist and into
Wellness via EFT and Reiki and energy therapies in general. I've done
some at-a-distance work with Astral Projection and the like (Monroe
Institute) with some positive results.

A couple of years ago I built a small manteum using a mirror, about
2' x 2'. I sat on a pillow on the floor in a room with a very low
wattage, shielded, light. I had looked into the mirror, which was
several feet away, for about 15 minutes, when I felt a presence
behind my left shoulder. I HAD to look and when I turned there was a
figure standing there dressed in a monk's robe with a cowl over its
head. I could not see its face.I asked who it was but it did not
speak to me. I thought that if this was the grim reaper I would
already be dead. So we continued to hang out in silence for several
minutes, then it vanished. Was I surprised? You bet. Was I scared?
Well, maybe a little.

I noticed in the Files section that Kyle has placed a number of
hypnosis references. Though not absolutely necessary, I think that
many of those techniques could be useful in mantic studies.This group
hasn't been very active of late but maybe some of the old timers will
come on board and share their wisdom.

I learned of this yahoo group from Diane Arcangel's webpage. I so look
forward to meeting her at the Forever Family Foundation Conference in
San Francisco January 19-20.
She will be among the wonderful presenters who are trying to prove
scientifically that we do not die.....we simply transition.
My own afterlife encounters with my son who passed in Jan 2006 and my
mother who passed December 2006 have strengthened my own belief in a
beautful afterlife. I am reading everything I can find on the subjects
of afterlife encounters, mediumship, NDE's, etc.
