Good question...
One thing: Are you saying ffmpeg is not identifying them at the correct
orientation?
I'll do some research to see what I can find...

Hi!
I am experimenting with MOV files recorded by iPhone 3GS. I am looking for a way
to detect orientation (portrait vs landscape) using commend line tools or open
source libraries.
Apple QuickTime player shows them in correct orientation. However comparing
ffmpeg -i output for 2 sample files I do not see any information which could
help me to guess the right orientation.

Although there hasn't been much new in the QuickTime world for a while... this
announcement is a significant one:
Apple has released a professional quality QuickTime decoder, and it's available
free for both
Mac and Windows. The information from Apple's site is below:
About Apple ProRes QuickTime Decoder 1.0 for Mac
The Apple ProRes QuickTime Decoder software allows both Mac and Windows users to
play
Apple ProRes files through QuickTime. Apple ProRes is a visually lossless format
that
provides uncompressed HD quality at SD data rates.
It is an excellent choice for mastering and can easily be transcoded to
distribution formats
like H.264. With new support for playback on both Mac and Windows computers,
Apple
ProRes can also be used for review and approval of Final Cut Studio sequences.

Quicktime Movie Player doesn't do this automatically, but you can use one of
these
options:
1) Using QuickTime Player Pro: Copy and paste each of the movies into a new
movie, and
save as a "reference movie". Then, play the reference movie. A reference movie
is pointers
to each of the movies.
2) Use VLC or a number of other third party players to play your movie. VLC
supports
"playlists" which is what you will want to use if you want to drag a bunch of
movies onto a
list.
If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask...

Hello. I frequently have several MOV's to watch as part of a tutorial
set or documentary. I'm tired of having to close the QT session at the
end of each video and then having to manually start the next video in
a new session.
How do you use QuickTime to view multiple videos in sequence without
having to load each one at the end of the previous. I'd like to do in
QuickTime what I can do in Microsoft Windows Media Player, which is to
open several movies and let it play one after the other without any
effort.
Is QuickTime as capable to do that?
Thanks.
Here are the steps:
1) Open the picture you want to use, in QuickTime Player.
2) Open the soundtrack movie, or MP3 file in QuickTime Player (audio only).
3) With the soundtrack selected, press "Select All"
4) Press "Copy"
5) Select the picture movie.
6) Press "Select All"
7) Press "Edit" -> "Add to Selection and Scale"
What should happen is that the picture now has a background soundtrack that goes
the
length of the song.

I've seen plenty of files on YouTube and other places where an audio
track runs for many minutes while a single image is displayed. It's
like a slide show with only one slide.
How can I accomplish that with Quicktime Pro? If I want an 18 minute
movie to go with my 18 minuite MP3 file do I need duplicate images each
set at 1 frame for 10 seconds? That's the only way "import image
sequence" would seem to work. That would make an unneeded overhead for
video if I can just make a single 27K JPG show up for the entire time.
I'm sorry if this is an old question, but I'm new to the group and have
not used Quicktime to do this before. The Apple FAQs don't clarify it.
Thanks,
Ken
Yep, the file opens through VLC, both picture and sound, but still only
opens up as an audio file when opening it with QT. So I'm gonna try
downgrading...

VLC? Is that available on versiontracker?
Yeah, I've got the latest QT installed but I'm hearing that may be the
problem so I may need to downgrade to an older version.
I've got the problem with multiple movies, but I have some movies that play
just fine.

Hey gals/guys:
I got a new JVC Video Camera, Everio GZ-HD7u. I have downloaded the video to
the
computer, but the extensions are .MOI and .TOD and one that is .PGI. According
to the
manual, the video files are given .TOD extensions and are recorded in MPEG2
format. I
have Quicktime Player version 7.4 and the software that came with it is
"Quicktime
component for Everio" which I have installed. I am using USB for connecting the
camera to
the Mac.
I called JVC and all they can do is to get my files from the camera to the
computer. Which
I have done. They do not get into the different software to use for the video.
When I click on one of the movies with the TOD extension, I get an error message
from
Quicktime saying "The movie could not be opened. The movie contains an
incorrect
duration."
Anyone can help shed some light as to how I can view these videos I have taken?
Do I
need another program like Quicktime Pro 7? Or Final Cut which is quite
expensive?
Thanks for your help,
Azim

You do have the latest version of QuickTime isntalled?
Can you try opening it in a program like VLC? (It has it's own codecs).
This may allow us to determine if it is codec related.
Do you only have this problem with one movie, or multiple movies?

This usually happens when you are missing a video codec.
If you check the movie info, it will tell you what video and audio codec the
movie uses.
If you search for a type of codec listed for the video components, you should be
able to
download the appropriate codec to play it back.
If you have problems with this, just post the info here, and we can try to help

Hi,
I'm a LiveStage Pro novice (one of the few left, it seems) and in need of help.
I couldn't find
an answer at Totally Hip's StageDoor.
I have a QTVR panorama with a large hotspot (basically the stage in a small
auditorium). I
want the user to be able to click on/in the hotspot to cause PNG images (of
traditional
dancers and audience members participating) to appear in the screen. Ideally
there would
be an automated rotation through 11 pictures. However, I have yet to get a
single image to
appear properly.
The lamentably best I've been able to do is create a white sprite centered
permanently
inside the QT window; the sprite contains the 11 images. When previewed, I get
just a
white box, but when I move through the panorama, nothing appears inside the
white
sprint. At least, nothing until the sprite passes over a certain location where
the sprite's
first image appears, slightly curved as if it were part of the QTVR track
itself.
My guess--sorry, the best I can offer now--is: The sprite images' reference
points are all
set to 20,20, which seems to refer to the top left corner of the QTVR track's
equirectangular graphic file. So when the white sprite passes over that point,
the sprite's
first image appears inside the sprite, only smaller and moving in sync (inside
the sprite
"window") with the QTVR viewing angle.
Your input is very welcome!

Can anyone recommend a way to track QTVR content views?
What I want to know is how many visitors, unique and repeat, interact with one
panorama
(possibly to be multinodal, in which case I'd like to know how many nodes are
visited) on a
site (actually, two sites) for a half-year period.
StatCounter.com tracks much (IP addresses, exit page views, referrers, etc.),
including
pageviews (the latest 500 for free; more, for a fee) for each page on which its
code is
placed within a site, so I can get an estimate of sorts by placing each QTVR on
its own
webpage that carries the StatCounter code (JavaScript). Each pageload is thus a
QTVR "hit."
However, that won't actually tell me whether people interact with the QTVR,
something in
which I have an academic interest.
I am planning to write a JavaScript that reads cursor coordinates with
onMouseClick; if the
coordinates are inside the QTVR, then that is, I think, strongly suggestive of
interaction. If
the click is in the QTVR, a window with the StatCounter code could pop up, thus
registering
a viewer hit. However, if the viewer has "block popups" enabled, I'm probably
out of luck.
Is it possible, perhaps using LiveStage Pro, to embed HTML/JavaScript code
within the
QTVR? Can the QTVR itself report that it's being interacted with? If so, how?
Another option is to offer the QTVR content but only as downloads, which could
then be
tracked with Download.com. (I must read more about their service to make
certain.) But
then I'm back to assuming that downloading/viewing = interacting.
Apparently Urchin Web Analytics' software (there are competitors, too) can do
what I want,
but my academic interest isn't currently worth $895 for two very small sites.
I have been having problems that I believe are Quick-time related
for most of a year now on my lap-top. After one of those automatic
updates about a year ago the "i-tunes" and Kodak Easyshare software
have stopped working on my laptop. My PC which has an older slower
processor and has the same XP service pack 2 operating system works
just fine with all of the updates. As advised on the Kodak and
Quicktime sites I have tried uninstalling and installing the newest
versions numereous times. Everytime my PC gets an update I get
optimistic that the latest update may fix whatever is aliling the
software on my laptop but I have had no luck. When I unistall the
Quicktime software there seems to be an old version of Quick Time
that will not uninstall. My suspicion is that this old version of
the software is what is causing my problems. I had thought to re-
format my harddrive to get rid of it but my computer did not come
with a Windows disc so I have no way of re-loading the software. I
had looked into doing a system restore but realized that I have now
waited to long and cannot restore back to an old enough date to undo
the problem. I am pretty near giving up and buying new Windows
software so that I can reformat but saw the QuickTime group today
and am hopefull to find someone that may know an answer to my
problem.
Hi All,
