first of all, thanks for your reply.
I am not from arabic country, I am from Indonesia.
I can read quran but I am not used to and am never type arabic using keyboard.
So this is my first experience.
I am also new utf-8, unicode, and all of this encoding stuffs.
My objective is to be able to include some verses from the quran within paragraphs in an english or asian language in latex.
The problem is I don't know how to create, for example, a simple script like "bismillahirahmanirrahiim" in a correct way using qalam.
If I open the examples, I cannot see any numbers inside the bracket of \begin{RLtext} \end{RLtext}.
What I see on the display is only an arabic script almost similar to what the example is producing after latex compile it.
I think this is maybe due to the linux distro that I use (suse Linux with Gnome gui) which recognise the utf-8 code and display the character on screen. (I'm using tetex package, and Kile latex editor)
I really dont know how to change it.
I dont know how to enter a utf-8 code, is there a character map available?.
what editor should I use ?
sorry for giving so many questions at the same time.
I hope this will clear the situation a little bit... :)
thanks

Alsalam Ailkom
please, can i know if you know arabic
i mean are you from arabic country?
about the encoding
we use utf-8 encoding
in Arabtex it was possible to use transliteration way
but not in all encoding like utf-8
and as it is a wide encoding we focused on it and made it
the defult encoding to AlQalam
so we have no transliteration
but i you typed some characters in english in arabic mode
it will produce the corresponding character
but not like transliteration
some thing like ( .h ) will not produce the corresponding character
add to that all new symbols in alqalam ( must entered in utf-8 code )
you may see in the exam that there is some numbers
inside text , this numbers are just shortcut to the equivalent utf-8
I wish it was clear
if not please replay
thanks

under linux (teTeX). Just make your latex system recognize the new package by running texhash
or mktexlsr. Oh and you also need nccfancyhdr package which not in standard latex package otherwise you can not compile the example. the nccfancyhdr can be downloaded from CTAN.
My problem is now in entering character as my keyboard is qwerty my default system language is english. I really do not know what encoding to use.
I can not learn from the example as well as the kile editor that I use already display everything in arabic characters. Whenever i try to change or delete the keyboard behave differently.
Your guidance for the correct input encoding will be greatly appreciated.
Compared to ArabTeX where you can just type in latin character, alqalam is not that easy.
Nevertheless, in my opinion alqalam is a great achievement and I wish to congratulate all of the developer and contributer for making such an extension to latex.
The team decision to license is under GPL is also an elegant decision.
Especially in views of some other arabic/foreign latex package which are kept as commercial package.
my humble opinion
