R1b is a haplogroup or branch of the human family tree of paternal lineages. It is marked by a mutation of the Y chromosome named M343. See the Wiki article for R1b.
R1b is the largest haplogroup for people from Europe. Please consider deeper SNP testing. Most hobbyists recommend that R1b people Geno 2 or SNP test and STR test to at least 67 markers. This helps you find the right subgroups and filters out false matches. 111 STRs is becoming the new standard for analysis.
