RE: [RACAstronomy] Interest in starting up meetings again?

Great! I'm happy so many are interested.

Robert - please return the meetings page on the web site to its prior state
listing the 4th Saturday of each month beginning with 28 March. I believe
the old version of the page has the maps to the conference room, correct?

All - other than introducing ourselves, what would you like to do at this
first meeting? A suggestion I got online was to have a different person
each month give a presentation on a constellation visible in the evening sky
at that month. The presentation might discuss mythology surrounding the
constellation but obviously should discuss where it is located (how to find
it) and objects of interest in that constellation. At the conference room
we have a PC projector (ceiling mounted) so PowerPoint presentations are one
way to accomplish this. As USB drives (thumb drives and the like) are not
authorized on a DOD network, you would either need to bring a laptop (which
cannot be connected to the Internet) with your presentation material or
bring the material on a CD-R/RW and I will load it into a PC or laptop on
the network.

Another idea might be for individuals to discuss what got them interested in
Astronomy and any highlights in their pursuit of the hobby.

Also, I'm willing to re-do any of the presentation found here:
http://www.nexstarsite.com/_RAC/download.htm

Another note - Emilia Earhart Intermediate School (Kadena AB) would like us
to support a little star party for students on April 4th. I'm thinking of a
location near gate 1 on Kadena. Who would be able to help with this? I
would like to have 3 or more telescopes (to be operated solely by their
owners) and a few extra people to help herd the kids (who should also have
some adults with them). Some binoculars would be good too. Mike B - your
SkyScout would be great for this event.

Finally, if anyone knows of a good location with no local lights in the
Nakagusuku area, let me know and I'll go "scope" it out.

Best regards,
Mike

Hi gang,

Lately we seem to have had some newcomers to the island interested in the
Ryukyu Astronomy Club. Are you all interested in starting up meetings
again? I propose the 4th Saturday of every month (good Moon phase for most
of the year) starting March 28th. We can still hold our meetings in a
conference room at the Hospital on Camp Lester though I'm looking at the
Nakagusuku area for stargazing after the meetings.

Best regards,
Mike
