Rex and others, please comment:
(Note: I use Gunars in order to distinguish, who said what.)
I liked when you compared the evaluation of something as awful to more
productive aspect of eliminating the act of awfulizing.
My follow on, vaguely reminiscent of Glasser’s “Choice
Theory” (googling gives a good idea what it is).
1) Ellis’
thought it irrational to rate totality of people and world, instead of rating
characteristics of persons and people. Gunars: Characteristics best be accepted
for now and some may be able to be changed given enough courage and effort.
2) Rex thinks
that defining awful as more than 100% bad, so bad that it should not exist, is inexact
thinking--Gunars alternative ascribes a new meaning: to wit, that anything that
precludes being able to enjoy life or lead a creative life. But that is not the
dictionary definition. Rex suggests that we define awfulizing as an action that
makes out things worse than they in reality are. Since it is not a recognized
English word, and English is a living language, this appears to be sound.
3) Gunars
thinks that it self-defeating to ugentize—to generate the feeling that
everything has to be done right now—instead of simply prioritizing and focusing
on doing our priorities, without demanding and commanding that everything of
importance be accomplished.
4) As I
understand Ellis and others, damning and downing self, others, and the world,
is a totally useless and senseless action. We all know that people are imperfectible,
but are Forever Fallible Fricken Human Beings (FFFHBs) and that world is what
it is; we can’t command it to change by our damnation or downing.
5) Gunars:
Can’t-stand-izing and whining about frustration is equally useless. Just
suck it up, eh? J Evaluate what can
be done, build a plan, specify steps, and then earnestly follow your doable
steps, see if you can effect a change.
6) Don’t
paint everything in black or white; don’t use inductive logic not based
on selective evidence. At best inductive logic really cannot be counted on,
because it takes one beyond the evidence (unlike deductive logic).

my mortality and put health as my priority! Can't have pleasure tomorrow, if I
am not around tomorrow! :-)"
