Looking at the thread you mentioned, I noticed that some had said
various Mitsubishi/MGA codes worked. Have you tried those (all
buttons for both VCR and TV Mitsubishi setups?)

Other protocols that match the frequency are: 6, 8, 46, 33, 36, and
60. If you can find one of those that triggers it, you may get a
better behavior. I chose the OBCs of 1, 170, and 255 because those
represent nearly all off, all on, and alternating on/off bits. But
add 2, 4, 9, 17, and 33 as other OBC codes to check.
